What a great clip, thanks for posting it! If you can find them, vol. 1 & 2 of the books Incredibly Strange Music is a must-have!(publisher was Re/Search Laboratories. The CD's of the same name are okay, not great)
I'm almost certain that the disco version of No Business Like Show Business was on a baseball blooper/great plays video from the 80s called the "Unofficial Baseball Handbook." It was played during the mascot montage.
Ya ever notice how Letterman never shows any respect for whatever CD, record, or book that he holds up to the camera. Strange. I think he has some anger issues. It a passive aggressive behavior meant to imbarass his guest, or a power thing like having his chair higher than theirs. Asshole.
amazing how at 1:54 the stereo seperation still comes through after being recorded from TV and uploaded to the internet after all these years. I believe I heard this piece as a sample on a "Man or Astroman" album.
"sound of insects" was sampled by "money" mark nishita on a 10"ep that i got. the cricket song, i think it's called. you can tell the outside temp. by counting the ratio of chirps per minute. cool.
wasn't Socrates the "fly?" maybe i'm too limited to understand, but i think dave is jokingly equating Socrates' words to the sound of a fly -- as people would compare socrates to a fly in his days.
dave pulled out some good stuff

If you read Brett Milano's book 'Vinyl Junkies' he interviews the guy that use to go out and look for records just for these bits on Letterman.
