I was a fashion student way back then, but i didn't make their costumes. I did share a flat with the revillos for a bit, before they went to the states.
Who is the bass player in this video? William Mysterious from the Rezillos came back to help out for a while when The Revillos were changing personnel around this time. Is it Mysterious?
No sign of Kid Krupa in the video. Wasn't he recruited before Vince? I think the line up I saw at the Edinburgh Astoria (May 1980) included Krupa and Mysterious. Around the time Scuba Scuba was released.
Hi, reading THE RHYTHM METHOD by Nicky Forbes at the moment and it says that Kid was about the time of Vince, if not slightly before, so who knows. I was at the Astoria, no longer there, in Edinburgh, have some great b/w photos, i sent them down to Nicky not that long ago.
The Rhythm Method is a great read. I bought it about 6 months ago and have started dipping in and out of it for a second time.
The tale about how the Scuba Scuba demo / cassette ending up being used for the single release is one of my favourites - Always wondered why Fay sounded like she was on helium. The re-recorded version from 1994 does the song more justice.
Nicky used to take me to alot of the gigs and i became very friendly with them all, i loved it it was great fun and met some top people, took me to London and Nicky used to teach me drums, the band had rehersals and auditions in my Mum and Dads hotel in Leamington terrace. Ahhhh those were the days. Brilliant, lovely people who were a joy to be with.
Hi im Scott, my Mum and Dad used to have the Glenelg Hotel in Leamington Terrace, did you not used to make the clothes? My friend Bev Lyon used to make them as well. Also i used to wash their car, hahaha!
I respectfully suggest that you've got that totally backwards. Although both bands formed around 1976, I believe that the Revillos/Rezillos took major cues from the 52's.
If Scotland decides to go for independence, good on them. But we in the Northumbrian Independence Resistance Movement want Edinburgh back - after all it was the ancient kingdom of Northumbria at one time, founded by our marvellous King Edwin.
Edinburgh was founded before King Edwin was ever alive. The name is of Welsh origin. The "Edwinesburgh" myth was invented by Simeon of Durham centuries after.
No one in Edinburgh considers themselves "Northumbrian". They consider themselves Scots though.
@blackpoolrok Yes you got that right!! I thought the same about that of the Revillos or Rezillols being the UK B52s only that the B52's has that early 60s the Ventures sound and the Revillos are more merseybeat like the groups from Liverpool. Their music also sound like they can be a soundtrack to Gerry Anderson's marionation puppet series Thunderbirds Are Go, Fireball XL5, Stingray and so on.
I haven't heard this for since about 1980 and I nearly wept with joy when I found it here! Fucking brilliant. It has everything you could possibly want: colour, humour and a great tune! Just brilliant.
The Revillos live Shows around 1980 / 1981 were just as energetic and colourful as on this video. They had great Stage sets and Lighting and their outfits and instruments were total Psychedelic Beatnik madness........I was always waiting for Rocky their Drummer to break a leg so I could try and worm my way in as their new Drummer...I'm still waiting dammit!!!
very twisting by the pool! it's like watching some 1960's American teen film. all you need is Annette Funicello and Frankie Avalon with assorted beach bunnies and surf goofs! post-modern or what?
I LOVE the Revillos even more than the Rezillos. Can't believe there isn't any clips featuring Kid Krupa.[R.I.P.] John was the brilliant and glittering guitarist with the twang on the records and tours from Rev-Up onwards. A lovely genuine guy surrounded by genuinely lunatic amazingly wonderful people. Rev on brother!
BY Tania not dambers anyway both rezillos and revillos are execallant pity on the beach isnt on the youtube :)

Except that they came before the B52s.
p.s. Hopefully Scotland won't be "British" for too much longer.

That early 60s influence was big in the late 70s/early 80s. This could have come right off the soundtrack of a 60s American beach movie.
