John Cage - performance

he is a musician, it's just that the majority feeds the society that his way of music is right. but considerably wrong. these are just sound effects and not notably compositions.

Go take a walk and pay attention to your environment.

Why do we need somebody to "help us focus on these" sounds? That's not what music is about, it's about using sound in a unified or organized manner to make something pleasing or moving.

Most people don't realize to go take a walk and hear sounds. It's suprising yeah but we need someone to literally spoonfeed them to get the other sounds out to them. Cage just made that more clear.

My grandfather actually wrote "4,33" when he was stuck in coal mine cave in. He was silent for 4 minutes 33 seconds (give or take a second).

You know, watching John Cage actually makes me violently angry. I can't help it, his work is just a living (dead thank god) embodiment of crap. Thanks to people like him, just about anybody can be an artist or a composer.

Thank god I am not untalented like he was.

What about the case in which one tastes Spam without preconcieved notions? Or when one has eaten Spam which one did not like, but later comes to like it, after eating it with a mind predisposed to dislike it?
