only nobles were worth any money so they were usually captured instead of killed. However, regular soldiers were too much of a liability to have on hand as prisoners. and it wasn't out of the ordinary to have numerous nobles themselves killed in battle. you were one of the lucky ones if you became a prisoner, even if you had prestige

Perhaps not in the early Crusades, but towards the end, there were knights in plate armour. Plus, it depends on which Crusades you are talking about. There was more plate armour seen in the Baltic and the Hussite Crusades than in the Crusades to the Holy Land or in the Reconquista. There wasn't much plate in the Albigensian Crusades, either, but the Spanish Armada (which was in fact, the last Crusade) was well equipped, and many men had plate.

Actually, medieval broad swords were that big. but they had long, two-handed hilts and a weighted pommel at the end that balanced against the weight of the blade. The base of the blade was usually dull, and they could be wielded similar to how a martial artist wields a bo staff.

drzsr13: It is not made for realism but what video about medieval is made to be realistic today. Most of the time they combine thing from 10 and 15 century together in films. Todday in every film you can find things that weren't in that period about which the film is.

the longwords are probably an average of 1.6-2 kilograms. Maybe even less, if the swordsmith had cut down on weight by some clever smithing. The Zweihander (wich can be held above the guard with one hand) just about 2 to 3.6 kilo's. Someone with strong arms and good stamina would probably last a long time fighting that way.

Must have been a "bearing sword" used in parades. Real swords used in combat are very light. A two-handed longsword weighs about 3 lbs, and even the great Zweihander was usually only around 5-7 lbs, though some were heavier, and some were even lighter. :)
