Whenever Cotto tried to open up he got countered with rapid, hard combinations. I like Cotto and Pacquio. I respect them both as fighters. Both are world class and seem decent individuals. But Manny does get hit a lot. Marquez hit him all night long, and Marquez isn't all that fast. "My fighter" didn't get beaten. I am a fan of the game.

He parry's some punches, and he comes in with some head movement, but he's not defensively oriented and when he gets tagged like he did against Marquez and Moralles, he either fires back (not a bad strategy - but not a defensive one) or he brings both gloves high like Clottey. Parrying and / or slipping and countering are not his style. He's an offensive minded figher. That's why he's so much fun to watch.

I agree that Marquez is just a bad matchup for Manny. He can read Manny's intentions really well.

Marquez was constantly moving just out of range, Manny was throwing long punches and getting countered. Cotto won't do that. When you look at there loses you see that Cotto has always lost by TKO and Marquez by decision and that in a weight range of 126-146,so it's not easy to call that one. Cotto can match Marquez' speed, he's really two full weight classes bigger, and he's not hyper-aggressive; he doesn't leave himself so easily open to counters. He has more of a stalking style, vice an all out attack. Difficult to counter that if you're not faster than the guy you are fighting. So I think Cotto is just too big for Marquez. Fight won't happen anyway.
