Very interesting. I may not personally agree that the eschatological notion of death as an ultimate end which underlies motivation, "When, if not now", is necessary, because I don't know whether death is the end or not. Being a mystery it leaves the possibility for immortality of some kind. So I do believe a human being is capable of creating motivation not in the face of death, but in the face of love to something or everything. Still in some individuals death is of immense importance.
PLEASE DONT READ THIS!In 1971 a guy named Kyle an his girlfriend Emily were in side a house that was said to claim peoples lives if they entered the house. The next morning a guy named Alex saw fingernail marks on the door.if you dont post this to 5 videos, youll be getting a visit from Kyle and Emily tonight!WARNING:this has been proved to be real,i value my life!whoever reads this may God be with you! If this was recorded in 85 in S.A., then the hard economic times were due to sanctions against Apartheid... I can hear his message of the "meta" level here.
His teaching is honest and pure, and powerful. It is very important to see that for finding meaning it is NOT important to experience suffering. All is choice, and all is karma. When we suffer, we have made certain choices that might not be in total alignment with cosmic purpose, without perhaps being conscious of it ... We are programming our destiny, and most of the time unconsciously. Dr. Frankl is a very important messenger of world peace!
well then, the thought was mostly prompted by the question the interviewer asked at 7:23. not much more to it... it just sounds like the same situation, almost, as today
I agree with you completely. Probably by modern standards they would view him as "insane" because he promoted self-awareness instead of pharmacotheraphy.
I credit Dr Frankl with saving me from suicide and re-examining my world-view.
I also hold him as a great hero.
A very intelligent humanist and man I consider a brother, introduced me to "Man's Search for Meaning".
I, in turn, gave the book to a nihilist friend with a methamphetamine addiction.
He was saved from self-destruction. An uneducated, but very smart man, this friend also got a date with an attractive psychologist by dropping Frankl's name in conversation at a bar... lol
I can relate to your story. I too was suicidal and it was because of my own addiction to drugs and alcohol. At the end of my rope after yet another relapse and bottom, i chanced upon Frankl's book and my life has never been the same. I truly believe he saved my life
There were three Viennese Schools of Psychotherapy in that time one founded by S.Freud,[The psychoanalysis]another by Alfred Adler[the individual psychology] ,the third by Viktor Frankl[The logotherapy-existential analysis].Freud and Adler, both emigrated from Germany under Nazi regim,Freud's books were burned,V.Frankl were deporteted in concentration camp and had survived .
A Great humanist and medic..all his life was dedicated to help people...How many people like him was exterminated in concentration camps...for the only reason that they was JEWS....Why????????????????/

I read lately the book, man in search for meaning, and was moved by the truth of it.
My grandmother was a holocaust survivor, and you could see and feel the horor by just
being with her, or other survivors I met. I dont feel it that much with this man, and it is impressive.

This what some people called Frame control as long as you control the frame of reference in your mind you are in control of a social situation
But regardless this is intriguing, more philosophy then psychology

modern psychiatry is influenced to much by the pharmaceutical-industrial complex. They should just listen to Frankl.

When I heard Dr Frankl in this interview I could finally and confidently say that Sigmund Freud was wrong and had probably done too much cocaine.
