I'm starting to see more of these on the road. They're very nice. I think the touring is even better then that sedan. Love the touring's projector headlights. They couldn't put them on the sedan version? I'd buy one on these if I could. Could put my bicycle in there and bring it with me. Lots of room :)
Spatially this is more in line with a wagon than a hatch. It's a nice and cheap car. In Canada the base is $14k so that's a lot of car for your money which traditionally are filled with econobox cars like the Yaris and Swift. Good choice if you need the space. I am considering it among my choices.
hyundai should have carried over the elantra face. its like the matrix with toyota. its a corolla wagon, but doesn't share the name or looks. hyundai either needs to carry over the face of elantra or give it its own name.
I like the idea of this type of car for practicality. The inside of the elantra touring is ok, nothing special but it will do the job. It's the outside that just kills it for me. Too square'ish, too generic, just plain ugly. That thing truely does say "STATION WAGON" all over it.
150 max on the speed dial? I wonder how fast this car can actually get. A 2007 Corolla has a max speed on it's dial of 110. I know the max number on the dial isn't always an indicator of how fast a car can go, but usually it's fairly representative of performance.
You're partly correct. The max speed indicated on the speedo isn't representative of how fast a vehicle can go. Some vehicles can actually exceed what the speedo shows, while most can't even reach the limit shown. I don't think the speedo in the Elantra sedan shows as high of a speed. This touring version is supposed to be more European and sporty in character. Even if performance isn't any better, car companies will put in a speed with a high max speed just to give the impression it's faster.
i have one and the front seats recline almost all the way down and yes u could sleep in there and if u plan in sleeping cofortable then recline the back seats and u could sleep comfortably
THANK you...i don't understand the hesitation to call it a wagon. I drive a 2005 Suzuki Forenza wagon and love it...its not badly styled or anything and I'm happy to call it a wagon. Not a hatch by any means.
For some reason, car companies these days think "wagon" is a dirty word. They think Americans still associate the word with the big, gas guzzling family haulers from way when they were popular. Today's wagons are typically sporty and smallish.
If u absolutely LOOOOVE one of them...no contest !. But, if it is a close decision, this should be more fun to drive, way more balanced, and also quieter by design.

Elantra.
It's had a lot more time to grow and mature.
It's much nicer.
While Hyundai is a lower quality import, or was, they're still much better than Kia.
Ultimately for your first car, I would suggest something like a Civic.
More power, comfortable ride, greater MPG, it's just all around a better commuter car, and it's got a pretty good sound system and is quite a comfortable drive.
I have an 08 elantra and love it. The touring looks so much better than the soul and it has a lot more space! Go for the elantra touring it seems to have a lot more qualtiy to it, but hopefully before you listen to us you go check them out in person.
At least Hyundai didn't screw up the design of the front end of this car, like Mazda did, with their new 2010 Mazda 3. Yeah, nice looking car, i'd buy it.
I'm glad I'm not the only one who feels this way. The new Mazda3 has this goofy-looking "smile" on the front end. The Touring looks nice, and it's probably the car I'll be getting this month.
NFL - Hyundai builds pretty damn good cars, a recent survey indicates that their quality is improving even more, compared to the rest. The Sonata is one of the best sedans out there. I have owned 2 Hyundais in the last 12 years, and they were pretty good cars. The only issue with Hyundai, is they do depreciate quickly, but, this will change, as their cars continue to improve their reputation, and build a better image.
Your right. I like the impreza but its much more expensive here in Canada. The Sub works out to almost 27K all in with a similar trim level we looked at.
i'm 14 and getting my learners and thinking about getting this car when i get my lience i fell in love with the one at a dealer ship cause my dad was getting a new car and a fell in love with this car only the one i like is grey
I know, why does he keep saying hatchback, it's a frickin' wagon. I own one and I think it's a great little wagon. VW Golf is a hatchback, this competes with the Jetta Sportswagen.
He's not THAT short....He's not the shortest guy....
...And not the best reviewer,...he should give another try.

I don't get why one can't take a long trip in this car. If it's comfortable then why not?
On the positive side, I did sit in one of these with a sunroof and I wasn't banging my head on the roof like I did with other cars with sunroofs.

This car makes traveling around very easy! It has a ton of storage space and the middle seat seatbelt is an awesome feature!

Man that thing is ugly. It's a station wagon, BTW. Want a 5 door hatch? Toyota Yaris is the way to go!
auxmike 2 years ago
Did you just say this is ugly? And then you bring up the Yaris? How ironic.

It can't be a station wagon because Mr. Jackson, WHO IS NOT THAT SHORT, says it's a hatchback.

Sure looks like a station wagon to me, too.

NFL you should look at the Subaru Impreza too! Little less MPG but same price, but has AWD!

Same price my ass. Impreza with little more than a bare bone base model costs at least $3000 more than Elantra Touring w/ almost full option.

Mine has the rear spoiler which I think makes it look much nicer/sportier.
