@iStoleUrCookiesxD Lefty Frizzell's real name was William Orville R.C. Frizzell. His parents were Naamon Orville R.C. Frizzell (b. ~1909) & Adie Cox.
Naamon's parents were William M. Frizzell (b. ~1886) and Velma L ___ (b. 1885). They are found in the 1910 & 1930 U.S Fed Census records (Arkansas).
There's a William Frizzell (b. 1806) who m. Ana Hayes and this William moved to Arkansas. His parents were James Frizzell (1790- Jan 1873) and Rebecca Flowers.
i fell in love with this song the first time i heard it. it reached #12 on the charts when it was released in 1965. why not #1 ?! LOVE the bass horns on the album version
And what a great piece of songwriting! Grabs your attention like little on today's "country" - but if I remember right it didn't even crack the Top Ten when it first came out.
Fabulous stuff, with Lefty in prime form - so simple here to see why Haggard idolized him. Who are the nine strange, sorry SOBs who don't like this video?
We Knew Lefty as Frizz he use to come an Visit Granpa in Oregon and have jame Sessions In the early 80's till gram died I miss Them Days thanks for posting an awesome song
Country music today will never be back to this, country music, it's gone in a whole new direction, compared with this great country music. I just hope they have a way to save this old time country music, in black and white, before it's gone forever. Like remastered versions, just thankfully we have youtube, so we can enjoy these great old time country music.
I was informed that my grandpa played with Left and started in Hagerman NM. How i wished there were some video!...My granpa has been gone for 15 years and that would just keep his memory alive for me as he taught me all the music i know...was one of the best banjo, guitar and fiddle players around.

These new so called country singers aint worthy to shine this mans boots,God Bless Lefty,if these new "country singers" were singing for shit, they couldnt get a smell of it!!Hell, they all sound alike now days.dont get no better than this!!!
I met Lefty, Freddy Hart and Bill Anderson at La Popular furniture in Los Angeles in 1958. Bill was about 19 years old. He looked like a kid with a scarf tied around his neck. Lefty was very affable and talkative, then just before showtime he said "you boys run along now." He went out to his Cadillac for nip of courage and put on the best country show I have ever seen. I will never forget it!
i just love this stuff! let's not forget the contributions of the supporting musicians who added such country flavor with their voices and instrumental talent:) classic country is definitely a "NO AUTO TUNE ZONE!"
Okay, I was back for my daily guitar lesson when attempting to hit the play button, I accidentally voted this video two stars. It deserves five. Lefty was da heat. I especially liked Nigel Tufnel on lead guitar. Great song. One of Lefty's best.
I was talking about the backup singer...but someone else is saying it's abe mulkey (?). anyway...it looks and sounds like buck owens...but that was an uneducated guess. The album's discography does list abe mulkey as singing backup vocals...but I don't know what he looks like and didn't necessarily think this was him on some television program. nevertheless...great song, even if the guitar player is a bit off putting. ha.

Lefty Frizzell was the best ever. What a marvelous singer. I love to listen to how he pronounces words--especially "trouble," "must" and "love." The way he sings them, they rhyme with "look" and "good." Lefty could pack a whole alphabet's worth of vowels into a single word. He starts with one vowel and leaves you dizzy by the time the word is finished. What a great shame it is that hes not still with us. I hope Lefty is singing with the angels. Are there honky tonks in heaven?

@violet8218 I'm very sorry to learn of his passing. Abe taught me about harmony when he spent a Summer in Idabel Ok. Buck Trent was a GENIUS...ever listen to the intro to some of the Porter an Dolly songs that sounds like PEDAL STEEL?...It is Buck with his ELECTRIC BANJO AND SCRUGGS TUNERS...He could make it sound like a pedal steel...STILL CAN!..
My guess is that the lead player is a very young Buck Trent who went on to become a fabulous banjo player and regular on Hee Haw with Buck Owens and Roy Clark. I am puzzled that the tone and sound track of the lead guitar does not match with his hollow body guitar. He may have gotten a camera shot but is not the actual lead player.
Not to mention all his great pickin' with Porter Wagoner. His intro to "Carroll County Accident" is a classic. I can't verify that it's Buck playing guitar on this, but it sure sounds like something he'd play!

Not to mention all his great pickin' with Porter Wagoner. His intro to "Carroll County Accident" is a classic. I can't verify that it's Buck playing guitar on this, but it sure sounds like something he'd play!

When it comes to real country music, Lefty was (and still is) the real deal. His passing left a gap that no one has ever been able to fill.
