I'm not a fan of Candace,but why is everyone blaming her.I know she went after Bette,but Bette was in the relationship with Tina she should have told Candace I'm looking for a carpenter not a lover.I hate when the other woman/man is accused of destroying a person's relationship its two adults consenting to an affair they both know is wrong...The only difference is one is risking everything and the other has nothing to lose.

JB was REALLY upset with Ilene Chaiken when she scripted Bette as "the adulterer" with "the" carpenter, no less. She did NOT want Bette to cheat on Tina. Our girls didn't want it either. Unfortunately, Ilene said otherwise.

@Prunes42 I'm glad to know that the actresses were against it. I'll give IC one little bit of credit... if she did write a cheating story, at least it happened from a point of Bette really losing her way rather than just a typical somebody meets a hot person and immediately falls into bed. The loss of the baby, her work stress and the existing issues with Tina at least give a backdrop of someone going over the edge. Worst part though, was after Tina found out, Bette saw Candace again. Yuck!

@Prunes42 I never knew a lot of the behind the scenes L Word stuff until recently, and by all accounts it seemed Ilene Chaiken created these great characters almost in spite of herself. I read she never wanted Tibette to reconcile after season 1. I know we all say that they had to be apart to have the great S5, but still... I wish writers tried harder to write couples without having to create drama from cheating and breakups.

Granted, it was rare, but when the L Word did it right they did it SO right. Bette and Tina were just delicious. Ilene really overlooked a gem when she didn't put them first and foremost. JB and LH rocked those characters with every scrap they were given.
