  • Just amazing thanks for posting - I live in UK and apparently we get more tornadoes than US albeit smaller ones. That green "powerflash" is just incredible I would love to see this for real

  • Nature, aint no scarier than nature.

  • looks like gothic city from batman with the lights on the sears tower ...

am i the veryh first to comment on this>?

  • Fuck the Netherlands, Chicago i'm coming!

  • That would have been amazing to timelapse:)

  • I remember this-awesome storm, intense non-stop lightning. One of the tornadoes touched down a mile away from me in Bloomingdale. The lightning was outrageous!

  • Mother Nature at her absolute finest...and absolute deadliest...

  • Things. Just. Got. Real.

  • so the tornado SIREN went off but there was NOT a tornado!???

  • @ssSocialStudies Chicago blasts tornado warnings whenever there are winds in excess of 60mph.

  • great shot of the skyline in the beginning. I expected to see Batman swoop into the frame...

  • pause at 3:26.....epic!

  • That green flash was a power flash.

  • We had the same type of storm hit the Quad Cities on July 21 that year!

  • @MrMarmaduke09 quad cities?

  • i love storms

sometime people get scared but they are fun to watch

  • 0:35 to 0:45 sears tower was like "now you see me....now you dont HAHA BIAAAATCH"!

  • one of the best storm vids I have ever seen. Huge storm. Wow

  • 3:12 is that the tornado who wants to the ground?

fùck that if you are in that tower!

  • Good shit man, glad to see someone else is interested in watching this stuff besides my self lol. Always saddens me when the storm is over though =(, I could sit around and watch it for hours, love that intense power that nature displays for us.

  • What model siren was that? Where was it located?

  • this video is fuckin awesome thanks for posting

  • chicago is scary O_O

  • The sirens make this video more epic than it already is, it gives it a more dramatic mood. Great capture!

  • We don't have tornado sirens in Australia!

BUT WE HAVE TORNADOES IN AUSTRALIA!

  • thats insane the thunder is so frecking loud !

  • Owo'...i see a funnel cloud by the sears tower -shits pants- (/.\)

that was the worst storm...next to the one that happened back in june x.x'

  • That Chrysler Siren's got a reach! 25 miles. Good to hear one's still in service!

  • what siren is that? is it a weather or a storm siren? sounds like an air raid to me

  • I LOVE TORNADOES YAY : )

  • Lightening always seems to be SO much louder in the city. I've been woken up thinking bombs went off in my sisters building because of how loud it is!

  • Were any of the buildings damaged in this? If this were Manhattan there would be shattered glass everywhere.

  • going to miss summer time tornadoes

  • This is one impressive video....If we had a storm like this in Atlanta, we'd be without power for weeks....

  • Comment removed

  • plus downtown manhattan has no sirens. only the tiny suburbs have firehouse sirens.

  • i was thinking about living in NYC....but after watching this video....i wanna live in Chicago now. besides I have been to Chicago more than 4 times now...i love the skyscrapers there and i have a cousin who lives near chicago in union mills, indiana. plus i love outdoor warning sirens and tornadoes. If i lived in NYC i would not see Tornadoes but every 10 years or so. plus severe weather in NYC metro is not as powerful as the ones in chicago. Chicagoland sees a tornado every YEAR!

  • STUPID LADIES AT 0:58. they are no better than the bitches in ennis, tx who cracked up laughing because a tornado was going to hit them (if you dont believe me watch the video: ''LIVE IN ENNIS, TX 3:15PM TORNADO WARNING'' by housenation4life) but Other than that everything else in the footage was awesome. this shows that chicago IS TORNADO ALLEY. Chicago is the NYC of Tornado Alley.

  • damn thats some loud bass!

  • Seeing lightning bolts hit the Hancock tower is amazing!

  • DAMN i miss being in chicago

  • @falloutgeek87

No kidding. Moved from there after living there 18 years..

  • Love it!!! 10 out of 5 stars. In the begining and end of the video you can see two funnels roamin through Chicago. Love the thunder!! Sounds like bombs fallin on the city! Plus the lighting shots too!

  • Chicago;s mayor shouldve played la fortuna through the tornado sirens.

  • COOL!!!!...I WISH I LIVED IN CHICAGO!!!!!

  • COOL!!!!...I WISH I LIVED IN CHICAGO!!!!!

  • awsome wideo really crazy storm if seen one like that in poland this year. flashing every 3 seconds but no tordane ofcourse nice wideo and good camera good contrast

  • Flood?

  • Sholy hit!!!! I remember dis storm!! it lifted up my trampoline, dragged it to da front of my house, and bent it up!!!

  • Dude I was shitting my pants in this storm. I love how the sears tower gets devoured by the clouds. Awesome bid dude =D

  • In the beginning is tht noise 4 a tornado coming

  • this was amazing!! =D

  • 0:55: Green light = powerful hails, tornadoes!

  • Fuck that, I'm moving to Chicago!

  • @GadKing wiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiindyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy choice man!

  • @GadKing if anything the suburbs they get it the worst :P I love it in illinois!

  • @GadKing Right at cha bro

  • i just h8 the sound of those alarms those themselves scare me lol

  • @TheDrunkenCamel - indeed...

  • a WHOLE BUNCH of people craped their pance when this was goin on...i bet

  • @SuperBigmac1997 No I did not "craped in my pance" when this occured. It's a normal thing in Chicago, we tend to get terrible storms in the summer as well as terrible winter storms too.

  • @7477238 -.....sorry.......it just looked very scary...

  • @SuperBigmac1997 Haha no doubt it is quite scary but many people get used to it. The sirens itself are scarier than the impending weather.

  • @7477238 -im gonna go there in the summer to get the thrill out of tornados...ive never seen one in person...and also to experience the siren,it sounds scary...

  • the snap no roll lightning is a give away that there is def a tornado on the ground somewhere close by

  • i was wondering if there are many storms like this in chicago^^

would be nice to know =)

  • Love Chicago!!!!....but THIS.....is why I live in Los Angeles...

  • @BrandisLee Apparently you're not safe from tornadoes either.

    Like January 19th this year...

    watch?v=JjOn1zb6lG8

Love LA, but I'll take a severe storm over earthquakes any day.

  • @SVO01 LOL, this is true...every once in a while, we get a taste of midwestern life...but Ill deal with the quakes. The one thing I can say is, we cant run from quakes, but we dont have an earthquake season every year...but to each his own!

  • This would be a perfect twister movie think about it a F5 tornado going into chicago strucking buildings

  • Would be even more haunting if it were halloween! Don't turn around, there may be something behind you! Creeepy.....

  • I seriously cannot beleive how loud the clouds and lightning are..... that doesnt happen where i live.

  • I remember running 1.5 miles home with my mom that night. We were on the bus, then it got hit, and it powered down, and we didnt wanna wait for another one, so we BOLTED home. It was scary as hell, but in a strange way beautiful to experience. Still scared me shitless though, cause my neighbors yard had like 4 trees on fire cause one got hit.

  • This is the craziest weather I have seen in a long while. Especially coming from Chicago.

  • did this drop a tornado then? i would love to see a storm like this!

  • @ash160 Yes, in Griffith, IN.

    watch?v=Bvoze_spuPI

  • We had a pretty nasty storm here in Chicago last night (6.23.10) and again last weekend. Maybe worse than this at some points.

  • WE HAD OEN WORSE THAN THIS TODAY IT WAS FRICKING CRAZY the sky was ugly black green wind was blowing grass horizontally the clouds are so detailed of formations ive never seen our radio broadcast was interrupted it was like a movie for me!! i neva thaught this would happen to me the sirens go crazy barely see down the block June 23 2010 the scarriest storm ive ever ben in btw it was the day before my birthday =p

  • The footage combined with the sirens and wind give me chills... Do storms like this in the windy city happen often?

  • @99oildrops YES!!!

  • well Chicagoland is going to get another deracho on 6/23/10 in the morning should b fun...

  • @dukesmells well, well, well, you already got a derecho on 06/18/10, two rounds in 8 hours... am I right? I do love your town.

  • Wow the sky just turns bright green! is that from the storm or your camera? Love how your on the roof, right in the middle of the action, thanks for your sacrifice:P

  • WOW!!!

It's the best severe weather video I've ever seen!!!

    Awesome footage!

    Thanks for sharing!

  • Does something like this happen fairly often?I hope not as I am currently booking for my trip there!

  • ps3or360idontknow: That's absolute B.S. I live in the Chicagoland area where the actual tornado HIT that day and I assure you it was DEFINITELY a tornado. The Chicago Deracho is one of the best documented recent deracho events. Get your facts straight! This deracho system then moved on to Indiana where it spawned at *least* another tornado!

  • We had a similar type of derecho storm here in NY during Labor Day in 1998 this is impressive.

  • ok explain to me you all see a tornado and all of you run to the balcony , do yall ever go and take cover .. I would have been scared out of my mind .

  • Storms with derechos, don't form tornadoes, and aren't tornadic. Storms with hook echos are tornadic. (Just saying)!

  • @ps3or360idontknow actually that's not completely correct. What's known as a LEWP(Line Echo Wave Pattern) can develop in a derecho or any other line of thunderstorms given the right conditions. Rotation is enhanced at these waves and tornados can develop

  • thunder sounds so different there in chicago. I live in AR, the thunder just keeps rolling and rolling (damn mountains ..)

    very cool video!

  • i reeeeeeeaaaallllyy envy you!Never seen something like this.Just regular storms with consant lightning.Hello from Greece :)

  • What time was this? It's pitch black out because of storm or night? VERY cool video, they could use this stuff in an action movie, don't you agree? Awesome thunder and lightning, sirens in the big city.

  • good vid 10+

  • holy smokes, what a storm !!!

ive been in a tornado, across the street, but this is nasty

  • wow look at the green :0

  • omg the wall cloud is big iv seen a wall cloud but nothng like this one i do see the funnal

  • dang if i did not move to washington i would be very scard right there man like i will take cover and all

  • im originally from St.Louis (jefferson co) and family in Jolliet IL....I could seriously feel like the thing was going to pop up..lol..anyway,good work capturing the skyline

  • that funnle is slowly touching down if you look closely

  • Is it safe to stay in higher floors when a storm like this hits?

  • Seen this before: Yes only on YouTube.I randomly go thru tornado or severe type storm footage.the more threatening the scenery the better I enjoy it

  • this is awesome footage..Have seen several times and forget where its at..It almost has the feeling of having the "Cloverfield" monster come around a building somewhere!

  • @tnronniemay72 the clover didnt die so may have gone to chicago

  • @tnronniemay72 HAHA NICE cloverfield

  • Is that a tornado at 8:50 just to the right of the lightning?

  • That sounds like an RSH-10

  • WoW @ 3:25

  • I remember vividly that night. What is interesting is I wasn't too far away from where you filmed this. I was working on Ontario and Orleans at the time and everything when down.

  • my opinion is that in the chicago area august has the worst storms

  • oh no...Have you ever been to SPringfield IL? oh god...it is every other week there..at lease in the spring and summer.

  • no i havent been there but yeah ive heard of alot of tornados there in the summer

  • i know i notices dat too o.O maybe becasue summer is ending and cold is comming and they mixed and they make this kinds of storms. just like hurracanses in september cold and hot air

  • I remember from growing up in that area that May and June have a lot of severe weather but July and August have the worst nighttime storms with lots of lightning. The high humidity that time of year really energizes the atmosphere electrically for some reason.

  • not a derecho a bow echo.

  • Your Really brave if this happend ill would be in a Bathroom Fearing for my life!

  • now thaT IS A STORM

  • is that it?? do i see a funnel. awesome footage

  • Holy*beepingbeep* ... *drop jawed* AMAZING capture, adding to favorites, 5/5 stars!

  • What was the building that was hit at about 3:26? It was either the Sears Tower or Hancock Building.

  • i used 2 live in manhattan new york and this happened once but not nearly as bad

  • That siren sound like Zombies coming to the city XD

  • @Xphyrantas -reminds me of i am legend

  • @Xphyrantas or the city is about to be bombed like many of the cities in germany during World War 2

  • WOW! I live in elmwood park and we lost power and our basement got flooded.... I was so scared! because everyone was going to the basement because of the tornado warning...

  • this night was awesome i loved it

  • i remmember this day cool nigh

  • this was an awsome night im south of chicago and i was hit by a microburst with 80-100 mph winds

  • There were sirens all over chicago, my buddy lives in the south west suburb and got sirens and i live in the north burb and got sirens too

  • woaah. that is insane.

  • Was at the Cubs game when this hit...so cool and scary!

  • man that day was scary as shit god my sister almost pissed her pants hahaha

  • what was that noise at 4:25

  • best strom ever !!! i had ton of fun !

  • look at 9:33

    epic.

  • This is why I live in California.

  • holy crap again i can hear the sirens!!!!!

  • holy crap!!!! that was SCARY!!!!!

  • feels like im watching cloverfield. lol

  • You got it good there.... I'm in Naperville and we got missed by the heavy winds and shelf cloud... well any clouds! The heavy inflow blocked everything! I just saw a dark cloud coming, and boom it was raining hard. Our sirens didn't even go off!

Well that was my little rant =). Nice catch!

  • Yea i remember this bad boy i was in st. louis when all this was going on

  • I remember this one, it was during the Cubs game, and these are the storms that eventually produced the EF-2 tornado in Griffith Indiana.

  • this is scary/cool. a storm like this i would be laying my ass in bed somewhere trying to go to sleep

  • me too

  • wow thats facsinating. derecho? never heard of it. but wow thats truly mother natures power!

  • This suburbanite thinks it would be freaky as hell to be in a highrise like that during a storm like that. Move to California.

  • Would have loved to be there pissing my pants :o

At 1:00, it's like the lighting in a batman movie xD

  • wow thats dreadfully scary but fascinating to watch

  • Okay, I am so GLAD I do not live there because I have and INCREDIBLE fear of thunderstorms and tornados
