EVH is one of the best if not the best guitarist of all time and your damn right I would put him in the same category as Hendrix because if different era's they both changed the way guitar is played if it wasn't for either of them rock music wouldn't exist like it does today period!!
@revdraco where is randy rhoads on your list, i remember people saying how much more melodic randy's playing was then eddies, then i heard over the mountain solo, diary of a madman solo and tonight solo, and i thought he was way more enjoyable to listen to, but hey, i love them both, they along with uli jon roth, frank marino and malmsteen are amongst my faves, have eddie and randy both were so awesome, eddie was one kind of style and randy was another,
@vanhalen515084 Don't mistake my failing to add Randy to the tie for first as a dislike of him. . .
Randy kicked ass for certain, and being dead doesn't alter his still being infinitely better than any guitar player, in any band, since the late 80s - early 90s.
But.
Eddie is the Original, Randy was a copy - a good copy, but a copy nonetheless.
@revdraco Randy and Eddie were completely and totally different players. Randy's playing was completely based in classical and Eddie's much more blues oriented. In no way can I see how RR could ever be considered a copy..good or otherwise.
@revdraco Yeah can you imagine Jimi and Eddie jamming. You know it would happen. But then again who knows what Jimi would have created before Eddie and how maybe it may have influenced A different Eddie then we know today.

Let's face it, this is dated nonsense rock that is already forgotten. Silly LA party schlock from the worst of the 80's and completely unoriginal crap.
@posuerbuster Actually this music was originally released in 1978 (not the 80's) and there was nothing like it at the time. The 80's rock scene was filled with people making poor attempts to be like VH. Van Halen (Roth era) was a very unique and talented band. Comparing the worst music of the 80's to Van Halen "is like the dumbest things ever. LMFAO" .......... :/
Dated nonsense? Surely you jest? I defy you to find a song, written before or since, that rocks this hard.
Can't be done.
If you wanna talk "unoriginal," all you have to do is look at virtually every band since 1990 - "Let's see, Generic Singer #2, Generic Guitar Player #4, Generic Bass Player #2, and Generic Drummer #7 - ok, we've got a band. I think we'll call it Staind!" (or any number of sound-alike, talentless hacks)
Wolfie just stands there like a fat bump on a long. The poor kid looks like he doesn't know if he should come or go. What a joke. Nothing worse than seeing someone as old as your grandfather try to relive his youth half clad in front of thousends of men, cause most hot young woman don't give a damn about this music and the old one have outgrown this shit. . How the mighty have fallen.
It's great that Van Halen finally reunited with dave and did a tour together for the first time in a long time. No question the band has slipped off the radar here in the 21st century (Now what year was Van Halen III released? LOL) but an album of classic kick ass VH may be upon us in the near future. Hell if i know anything about evolution i would'nt hold it up to anthing they've done in the past. It Could highly most likey end up like eddie's guitar playing: all over the place!!!!!
@bytebull yea i guess a poplar guitar body and a thicker tremolo weight and even the sanded down paint on the body all contributed to the tone he was looking for on that fraken strat.i guess its great for sustain
@frankenstrat25 It's those awful pickups in his new guitars. What happened to Mr. "I don't like high output pickups"?? It just sounds like a midrange nightmare... maybe his hearing is getting bad.
@jhop5150 Until I get one and put it on the multimeter, who knows? Regardless, I just am not a fan of ceramic pickups, with the exception of OLD DiMarzio SuperD's that's magnets have mellowed with age. Just my opinion.
Eddie still rocks, but DLR just ruins it for everyone. He just can't sing anymore. Also, Van Halen was always Michael Anthony (who always hits Daves' high notes for him!) and not Wilfgang. Great memories of a formerlly great band. RIP.
Yeah...EVH is totally not significant in Rock and Roll history... That's like saying Jimi Hendrix wasn't significant in the history of Rock. Eddie is one of the most influential and copied guitarists of all time. Van Halen basically started the 80's rock scene not to mention eras that came afterward.
Well, i'm sorry I'm not a great englishman, I'm swedish, ok? So can you be a little easy on me? Don't get me wrong, I LOVE eddie, and I always will, I just think he isn't that good anymore.
I think thats the problem too, Eddie screwin around changing guitar parts from the album that throws Diamond Dave off. Still, This is The most kick ass concert ive ever seen, gotta say tied with Motley Crues new tour that I just saw last week here in Green Bay!!
i think (key words: 'i think')it's mostly eddie's fault, with his incessant wanking that throws dave off step, especially when ed is hammered, which is probably every other week. i read an interesting theory/comment (go to: 'atomic punk blow up eddies mistakes' on youtube) that eddie's been purposely fucking with roth to make him look bad so that he has an excuse to fire him and hire yet another singer. is david coverdale still alive? ha! ha!....
This tour should have taken place 10 years ago, Micheal anthony is an irreplacable member, I wouldn't want to pay 100 bucks to go watch Eddie's kid for two and a half hours. They left it for way too late.

I've never met a bigger VH fan than myself - not saying they don't exist, just that I've never met, nor even heard of, such a one.
I put Eddie and Jimi on the same list, tied for 1st place. They were both the most original, innovative guitar players of their generation.
Too bad Jimi died - I'd give both my pinkytoes to see what rock would have become had he lived. . .
