EVH is one of the best if not the best guitarist of all time and your damn right I would put him in the same category as Hendrix because if different era's they both changed the way guitar is played if it wasn't for either of them rock music wouldn't exist like it does today period!!

I've never met a bigger VH fan than myself - not saying they don't exist, just that I've never met, nor even heard of, such a one.

I put Eddie and Jimi on the same list, tied for 1st place. They were both the most original, innovative guitar players of their generation.

Too bad Jimi died - I'd give both my pinkytoes to see what rock would have become had he lived. . .

@revdraco where is randy rhoads on your list, i remember people saying how much more melodic randy's playing was then eddies, then i heard over the mountain solo, diary of a madman solo and tonight solo, and i thought he was way more enjoyable to listen to, but hey, i love them both, they along with uli jon roth, frank marino and malmsteen are amongst my faves, have eddie and randy both were so awesome, eddie was one kind of style and randy was another,

Randy kicked ass for certain, and being dead doesn't alter his still being infinitely better than any guitar player, in any band, since the late 80s - early 90s.

But.

Eddie is the Original, Randy was a copy - a good copy, but a copy nonetheless.

@revdraco Randy and Eddie were completely and totally different players. Randy's playing was completely based in classical and Eddie's much more blues oriented. In no way can I see how RR could ever be considered a copy..good or otherwise.

The 80's rock scene was filled with people making poor attempts to be like VH. Van Halen (Roth era) was a very unique and talented band. Comparing the worst music of the 80's to Van Halen "is like the dumbest things ever. LMFAO" .......... :/

It's great that Van Halen finally reunited with dave and did a tour together for the first time in a long time. No question the band has slipped off the radar here in the 21st century (Now what year was Van Halen III released? LOL) but an album of classic kick ass VH may be upon us in the near future. Hell if i know anything about evolution i would'nt hold it up to anthing they've done in the past. It Could highly most likey end up like eddie's guitar playing: all over the place!!!!!

Yeah...EVH is totally not significant in Rock and Roll history... That's like saying Jimi Hendrix wasn't significant in the history of Rock.  Eddie is one of the most influential and copied guitarists of all time. Van Halen basically started the 80's rock scene not to mention eras that came afterward.
