  • What do you have to have to get into CalArts?

  • imnot going to cal arts..

  • This is great! If I go to somewhere like RISD or SAIC freshman year, do you think I'd be fine transferring to CalArts my sophomore year?

  • great!!

  • What's the song on here..?

  • So you're obviously part of the character animation department, I'm planning on applying to experimental this year, do you have any particular advice? My passion is stop motion and trying out new mediums of animation but I still love drawn as well. Do you shoot mostly on 1's or shoot on 2's as well? Also we're these projects by class and how much time did you have for each animation? Sorry for all the questions I'm just very excited to be applying! Fantastic stuff!

Hi. Animation reel, or demo reel, is used to show your skills up to date, featuring your work you are happy with. This reel for example, is only a showing of all of my assignments in the first semester as BFA1 student at CalArts. One usually doesn't animate the reel itself. In reel one uses clips from already complete animation, from their films or pencil tests.

  • @ALMat101 no, it is a film, edited with clips with your animation. Thank you for liking.

  • @ALMat101 you're soo dumb dude

  • Works like this is reviving my old love of animation. : )

  • music from Inception!

  • @BLaiaiprincess hehe, yes, incredibly intuitive of me, three years before the Inception came to life!

  • @immencely Is this Edith Piaf or someone else?

  • @immencely That isn't Edith Piaf singing though is it?

  • wow if you do a movie it looks like ill watch it

  • Gorgeous. :)

  • After I get my degree at Ai Minnesota, I'm seriously considering enrolling here. Ai focuses mainly on 3D, so I figure I can get a job at a small studio in California to pay the bills while I learn 2D at CalArts! I can have my cake and eat it too!

  • Does CalArts do computer graphics and animation?

  • Yes. I didn't include CG in here, but it is in the program.

  • Ahh....thanks!

  • Personally, I think that SCAD would be better for CG animation. CG is their forte. Calarts on the other hand is king when it comes to 2d animation. Disney does a lot of their internships there.

That is just what I have heard (as a high school senior), so don't take my word for it. I am a 2d animator however, so I am focused on getting to calarts. At my school, my 3d animation teacher, and peers are always talking about SCAD, so that is how I came to this judgement.

  • Oh, thanks! :D

  • @HeelisToonz This is pretty late, but Calarts is the best school for animation bar none. If you can animate 2D, then you can animate 3D. The thing about Calarts is that they don't focus on teaching you the latest technology like other schools, but they just straight teach you to master animation and movement. Have you applied or got in any of these colleges, Calarts or SCAD?

  • this is really neat.

  • hey nice reel!

what are the two songs called?

  • love the timing of your animations

  • great work, and i like the music you used :]

  • Frsh stuff dude!Well done

  • Yay Ruah! Really enjoyed seeing your animation work again! My favorites were the tin can bouncing the ball and of course, Ruah the Kid! :) Have a great summer and see you in the fall!

Also enjoyed the music and also want to work on a few flipbooks this summer.
