  • Whoa, Teddy looked pretty good! He was such a great singer :') RIP

  • "In my time" is so heartfelt...:)

  • Teddy's voice is something showing us there must be heaven

  • i wanted to meet him. no lie 3 years ago i saw him in the newspaper and i knew iwas going to philly to meet him

  • Love that fake corporate voice by the reporter

  • Interesting interview, esp. Pendergrass's clear distantiation from the Christopher Reeves position on disability activism. As Pendergrass puts it here: ‘I don’t want to foster [an expectation of] cure, I don’t think that’s a real thing to foster, for me I’d rather foster, emphasise, quality of life, I think that’s more important’.

  • wow.. he looks TERRIFIC!!! OMG!

  • he really looks good at that age.

  • Wow, Teddy still looking good. He has certainly evolved and enjoying his life. I admire his strength and courage to continue. He has such a peace & wisdom. God bless the life he lived, for being a living example that we can still have a quality life after extreme circumstances. A true Legend indeed!!!

  • The accident happen a few days before his birthday in 1982. Wow, to live trough that, you must be a strong person. Him & Christopher Reeves are definitely strong to live for so many years to live with their spinal condition. R.I.P. Teddy!!

  • teddy's still fine and sexy. like the saying goes.....Good Black, don't crack.

  • 1:44 is scary as hell. That could be any of us. Except he was in a Rolls-Royce and on top of the world. Would you handle it with that level of grace?

  • this guy looks like George Benson, doesn't he???? Crazy!!!

  • RIP SWEET MAN..sheesh 59.. dam cancer :@.. he battled through his spinal injurys and still gave his fans that silky soul full voice ...BUT LIKE ALL THAT HAVE PASSED HIS MUSIC WILL LIVE ON INDEFINATLY:)

  • Smart man who had a lot of talent in many areas. A realist and a survivor.

  • Rest in peace you angel with your angelic voice.

  • RIP Teddy P.

  • His voice was like velvet and his spirit was even bigger than his voice,I bet hes singing with Gods angels.RIP Teddy.

  • RIP.. U WILL BE MISSED TEDDY!!

  • Teddy was a great singer, i have seen him once with Harold Melvin and the Bluenotes, and once by himself, we have lost so many of our great R&B singers in the past 2 years that can never be replaced R I P.

  • I envy you your experiences. And I agree with your sentiments. RESPECT.

  • Wow, I can't believe he is gone. :( R.I.P. Teddy.

  • An excellent interview! He's doing the right thing by support and trying to get people to understand that spinal injuries have no cure but there is a need to know about research. Thanks for posting!

  • He was injured in 1982 or there about, and here he is talking about the twenty fifth anniversary of the day, so the interview was in 2007.

  • I"m wondering when this was aired/ Teddy looks good! I'm lovin' the look.

  • It is so sad to watch such a great man who have given us such great songs. I loved his music. His music has been a comfort to me in my younger days. I pray that he will have a richful life.

  • Don't be sad, from his words, it appears he has a VERY rich life. there's probably a lot we can learn from his words an experience. I thank Teddy for all his great work through the years..

  • it makes me sad watching this coz even though i wasnt there in his time i feel his music and i know he's a legend.

  • i think we are much too concerned with peoples sex life, that in itself is kinda kinky.

in a way i think he lost something but he gained something more important.

he still has his voice but he has lost his own sense of sexuality, it really a mental thing, we would love him in the chair or out

  • i still love me some Teddy Pengrass

  • Yo Ted. 58 and Ceedar says Hi

  • man I tell you I am so mad that this great singer no longer makes music. and as for his lifestyle I doubt he liked transexuals, they just need to acting like they are fucking women and act like what god made them as. Now they got a great legend caught up in the middle. man I wish was still was able to perform. No matter the rumors, his career will never be tainted from this. We need more voices like his cause these so called singers now suck and they actually are gay in todays music world.

  • Transexual, a Male with female parts. Transformed Sexually. Ever watch Maury Povich Show? The Man or Woman episode? There are some that will fool the hell outta you. He just got caught up with what he believed was a woman. Shit, I wouldn't wish that type of luck on my enemy. It doesn't make him Gay, but qualifies him as careless.

  • Cure would be GREAT, Teddy!!.....but, I respect his QUALITY of LIfe stance!!...He IS a great talent!

  • Stay blessed Teddy! Ur an incredible human being!

  • I heard he was with his boyfriend when it happen!!1

  • What a gifted soulful singer. He sounds like he's a baritone with a tenor range. Or is he a tenor with baritone qualities?

  • This brotha made some good music!!

  • Damn.. I have great respect for this true brother.

  • Teddy better tell hunny he is so talented and so grateful for living you can clearly see that he has made the best of everything that has happened when others couldn't who shared his problems he is a git to music and homeboy still looks sexy through it all you better go boy!

  • Hes looking great. Its good to see that he moved on for the better. He seemed very depressed and bitter in the VH1 behind the music interview.

  • what year was this interview?

  • what an inspiration..makes me feel so humble xxx

  • i admire teddy for what he said about spinal cord injuries. christopher reeves never accepted that the fact he would never walk again, teddy has.

  • It's hard for people who once had the ability to walk normally to accept the fact that their injury is a permanent one, to the point where they can NEVER walk again! Everyone handles it differently. One can't fault the late Christopher Reeve for trying to find ways to make that possible again. But I think Teddy is taking a better approach. Spinal cord injury survivors need help NOW to live better, productive lives in spite of their disability!

  • His spirit inspires me as a young brother! Every interview he conveys a love of life.

  • hey mr p.....remember in new orleans at the saengar theatre? 1979 was the yr. shortly after......you had the accident.

  • THREE YEARS BEFORE.....82

  • I love Teddy...I have ALL of his albums...I remember when he was in L.A. in 96...he was in the play "Your arm's too short to box with God"....when he came onstage, I was screaming louder than the women..lol

  • i was checking out the interview, teddy if u look at ppe comments please go back 2 the teddy bear, let the beard grow and get rid of the locks! i no u tryna keep up wit the trend but we want the teddy bear back.. im here n philly and were waiting on a show at the man music ctr. it would b a sold out arena we no u cant hit those notes like u used 2 but the crowd would sing over u anyway

  • I dont know why our greatest R&B performers retire to wear dreadlocks? Billy Ocean and Ray Parker Jr. are trying and failing to pull off this look. Teddy need his beard back for sure. And I hate his pessimistic views on finding the cure for spinal injuries.

  • he cut the locks and its short

  • Teddy Pendergrass is the Greatest. Not just for his music, but all the background story. Somebody should've made a movie. I see it as a cautionary tale about hubris and redemption.

  • I am proud that Teddy did not have to sell his gold records and has such a positive outlook. He wouldn't have lived as long as he has if he didn't keep it positive.

I was surprised at his opinions on stem cell research as opposed to Christopher Reeves, but we need both schools of thought so that people in the research community may be able to use this info to aid their work.

As for the transvite thing...thank God that people are letting that mess go. Who gives a damn? It's over. It happened.

  • what difference does it make, most idiots are all the same, they judge others, point their finger and speculate, just to make matters worst, they do this in all circumstances, just to make a pointless argument, because their lives are worthless.

  • Is he still paralyzed??? Or did he recover from his spinal cord injury??

  • You don't recover, it's for life.

  • Let He who is without Sin cast the first stone!!! I will always be a Teddy fan of his music, and in his cause. PEACE

  • Teddy if you ever go on youtube, I love your music and I love you, too. So glad to know you are doing well. God Bless!!!!

  • Who cares if he was driving with a transvestite? The circumstances of their being together are not known to anybody but them. Teddy's the man, regardless of whom he liked to drive around with at 2:00 am.

  • Teddy is looking as gorgeous as ever and that was a brilliant interview - thanks for posting :O)

  • great man,looking good Teddy,you are a survivor

  • wow its great to see the great teddy pendergrass doing well, very positive and still an inspiration. peace and love bless.

  • Read his autobiography "Truly Blessed", that book on Teddys life and the tragic event b4 and after the accident clears up all the ridiculous accusations. The answer to your question is in his book. Its a shame you had to use this site to view a question to an event that happened so long ago in his life. This site should be about people who are making their views on the artists musical talent and capabilities. And trust me without a shred of doubt Teddy Pendergrass has this in abundance.

  • Well, in the the interview, Teddy talks about that awful incident that cause his spinal cord injury. Since the subject was raise by Teddy and the interviewer, I think that it is appropriate to ask about the other person that was in the car when that infamous accident occurred. I was not asking the question in the negative nor was I calling his musical talent and capabilities into question. I was simply asking a question about a well-known event. Excuse me if I offended you.

  • raised

  • Okay, your point is? Obviously, I thought I placed the "d." Would you like to comment on the substance of my statement?

  • yes...it was the BIG joke back-in-the-day when TP was involved with the Trans but that does NOT diminish his talent !!

  • awesome

  • God bless Teddy! God has truly brought him through so much. I read his autobio and I was truly blessed by his life story.

  • Who ever it was that posted this interview of "Teddy". Thank u and god bless u!! As a g8 fan! Its so good to hear how he is doing, and looking so fine!!May the Lord keep on blessing you!! "We love u Teddy!!! xx

  • teddy bear and luther.........the best voices,and music.......luther rip....

  • Still as sexy as ever even sexier now matured like red wine , You make me beleive in love looking at you being so positive and wise and so sexy . Looking for a man with his qualities and looks if possible any available ?

  • i have never heard teddy speak on an interview. this dude is really deep and what a positive attitude he has. a very strong and intelligent black man. stay strong, teddy and maintain that postive attitude. love you much.

  • Teddy was and still is the man. No one around today can fill his shoes or even come close. He is the last of his kind a true Legend.

  • Top Man

  • Wo, he looks gorgeous and is an inspiration for living n the now. You go Teddy!

  • The brotha looks good. GOD bless and stay strong Teddy P. My mom and aunts loved you back in the day.

  • this interview is priceless. it is a blessing how teddy can have such a positive attitude about his situation, he is a great inspiration to others who have suffered spinal cord damage. be strong and keep encouraging others, teddy. God bless you,my darling.

  • my respect to Teddy Pendergrass..

strong and facing life the right way.

  • What a positive attitude!

  • WOW...so inspiring. Man, I was almost when the accident happened, but I had known who Teddy was since I was about 4. Seeing these platinum records made me think of those days when you bought an album with the yellow label and pink "PD", you KNEW it was good music.

  • hats off T.P did i hear u say 'quality of Life', another key word evolved, dwell on the positive, men u are my kinda man talking the good stuff, T.P ended up marring his nurse rumor has it I guess he said she s the only one that really cares fuck the beauty, status etc 'regular guy' still looking guuuuudddddd

  • Joanne something...

  • Definitely one of my favorite singers. His music is timeless and his voice is unmatched. After his accident, it was a wonder that Teddy was able to talk, let alone, sing! It just shows the vocal strength that this man has. To a wonderful singer....Mr. Teddy Pendergrass

  • he still looks good

  • I was a 17 year old teenager in love with Teddy P. and his music when one day while sitting on a bus his paralyzing accident was announced on the radio. My heart just broke in half at that moment. My heart still breaks for him.

  • thats messed up what happened to him

  • No none of that happened. You got to be old school philly, to know that it was Dr. J's(from the 76 sixers) wife who was in the car with him. Because of the man he is he never called her out. It was reported locally, that they both went to the hospital but she checked out. She later came back to visit him in the hospital.

  • Teddy's an awesome talent.......and an inspiration...

    sincere respect to this man.

  • Still handsome as hell

  • he is a wonderful person (teddy P.) thank u artfennell for posting this. its great to see he is ok.

  • I'm a huge fan! I love his attitude and spirit. God bless you Mr. Pendergrass and blessings to you as well Mr. Fennell.

  • Thats the rumour , but he refused to confirm that. But accidents happen and can happen to anyone

  • It's sad...out of all of the things you could've said about this legend - that's what you took the time to post. Sad, really sad.

  • Why are you acting as if that's a bad thing. It's his fetish. Also, I LOVE TP's music and talent, really I do... my favorites of his is "Can't We Try" and "In My Life"... so don't paint me off as someone just here to make fun of the man, I admire him personally and musically a lot.

  • "It's his fetish"

    Islezeus

And you would know that how??

    Anyhoo,

Teddy looks great. I would love to see some clips of the "Teddy 25" performance.
