Yes, Maestro Paul O'Dette is out of this world - but keep in mind that musicians of his stellar calibre practise ten to twelve hours a day when touring...
jesus f. christ. The sad thing is it's impossible for me financially to buy a lute right now, yet I watched this video and I want want 10 times more than I did. He gets a tone with the theorbo somewhere between a classical guitar and a harp, just amazing. It's weird, it doesn't even sound like a lute, it's just incredible.
I wish you luck in finding one. I have built one (well, a baroque lute)as an amateur and the process is not as difficult as it looks - it's just time and care. Robert Lundberg's excellent book "Historical Lute Construction," which might be available through your library system, does a great job of showing how. It can be done with hand tools and patience, and it's completely worth trying.
I hope that one way or another you find an instrument
@thejugglenaut91 I'm glad to help. I made the lute with a chisel, a scraper, a saw, a small plane (block plane), a spokeshave, and a few other tools. It's mostly about being patient - the ribs take time to fit! But if you take your time and try to do good joinery, the work is worth it.
@thejugglenaut91 I feel you so much im so broke I want more rare instruments. I really want a Portuguese lute or guitar look them up on you tube just amazing.

Enthusiasm is just as important as the financial part. One day you will have the money. You're half way there already!

Like just how much are we talking here. Can you get a cheap one to start off with like most folk do when they start learning guitar.

This beautiful beyond words. This composer will never be forgotten.

I agree! It's almost hypnotic. Julian Bream and Paul O'Dette have mastered the lute and its family of instruments better than anyone alive today.
