Lucidmovement has posted a few videos at 1000 fps that have no guns in them.

This would point to the fps meaning 'frames per second'.

The confusion is because fps can mean 'feet per second' when relating to velocity.

100 frames per second captures less detail than 1000 frames per second. During playback at normal speed the 1000fps footage will appear slower than 100fps footage. You need a much higher frame rate than 1000fps to see the BB if you do the math. 100fps isn't that much faster than a plain old video camera.
