  • BTW, the go carts remind me of Pee Wee Valley in Reading; a mini amusement park with go cart rentals. Sure was fun.

  • The drag bike leaving the start line with a slick is a Triumph.

  • Beechmont dragway is a relatively unknown part of Cincinnati history. Nevertheless, it was a popular spot "back in the day" until noise pollution forced it's closure. On any Sunday you could watch the races from the shoulder of the road on the levee. Occasionally some "name" drivers would show up to run, such as George Montgomery from Dayton in his Caddy powered Willys. Most of these races appear to be from the Eisenhower era presidency. Thanks for the posting.

Unknown is right, I grew up next to the "drag strip" and the only history I knew about was that it used to be part of Pennsylvania Ave. My friends and I walked that road many times to go fishing in the Little Miami. As much as I love to watch racing, I'm not sure if I would want to live next to the "drag strip" while it was in business. Linwood already had to deal with Lunken Airport, cargo trains and the Tri-State Foundry.

  • The sound of those big American V8s was music, not noise. I think Beechmont should be listed on the Historic registry. It was about more than just the drags. It was about an entire era when men were men and women were glad of it and it wasn't politically incorrect to say so. An era of classic TV westerns, the Soviet Sputnik, first generation rock and roll, Mad Magazine and "duck and cover" drills in grade schools. It's nostalgia to the hilt.
