sadly, Giant Attack Robots will likely be a thing of Sci-Fi for a while...the energy needed to move such large machines would be immense, and it's ungainly size and high center of gravity would make it an unstable weapon platform at best...

new technology would be required to arm, armour, and power it efficiently to offset such limitations. however, i believe that their day will come, and someday future generations will use Mecha to colonize Space. hopefully not too aggresively though.

Admittedly, it was a long time since i read it, but as far as i remember, it is really a collection of stories, made by Isaac Asimov, and it is a classic among the sci-fi literature.

Mr. Asimov himself would probably not have approved of the movie at all, since it goes against his own standpoints (i looked up some at wikipedia).

I like the video. It's amazing how far we've come along with our technology when it comes to medical, military, and/or private use of machines to make our lives more convenient.

What, you think the military would be stupid enough to not install air to ground defense systems? Also, don't assume that just because it's big, it can't move quickly. There would be propulsion systems on it. There would be on mine anyway. You would have more luck carpet bombing it, assuming the planes don't get shot down first.

There's two options to taking it down. Overwhelming it with sheer number of forces(lots of tanks, lots of missiles and lots of bombers) which might not work as well if there are multiple robots. Or an EMP. The EMP would be far more efficient. No operating system= defenseless. Unless there's some type of shielding against EMPs. Haven't looked into that yet.

If you incorporated boston dynamics' "BigDog" legs onto a mecha pod w/ some machine guns and what have you... It could easily outrun a human being onfoot... if it were 50 feet tall, of course. AND IT COULD FUCKIN JUMP!... Imagine a 50 foot robot that can jump 40 feet in the air... awesome I say.

actually, legs are more efficient than wheels. Having a robot.. like a gundam, that was capable of full range human-like motions.. Would be very practical in war. if it were capable of jumping, running, dodging, or even flying. It would be a very useful warmachine. Load the thing with long range sensors, and computing technology.

They would be if they could build one that would actually move that fast. But, you're right. A 50ft robot would be stumbling around at about 3 mph then get blown up by a tank... They'd be great for search and rescue in places like fallen buildings and such.

Actually, a 50 foot biped robot with the correct balance would be able to move fairly fast given it's height. A human can walk at 5 mph, and we're only 5'6" average. imagine how fast a 50 ft would walk. Just how much armor do you think something that large would have? Massive amount of armor. We'd have to develop a new type of ammunition to penetrate it and then you have to hit a vital spot, something that would disable it. Then, think of the weaponry it would wield. A tank wouldn't stop it.

The real problem with a 50 ft robot is the powersource. It would take a huge amount to power that thing. With current powersources, it would only be able to operate for an hour to three hours, which isn't very ideal for war. Another problem may be motors, ie, what makes it move. The architecture would also be hard to plan and make, but if there was a working biped warmachine, there is no doubt that it would be fierce. With all the systems you could cram into it, it would be fearsome indeed.
