  • Ok. The computer I will resets to previous data so It doesn't save everything every night. When installing google voice thing on the pc. Will this effect my number. I don't really need this anyways because I have metro. But I'm curious in case I ever don't have a phone and need this.

  • Nice tutorial, but Galaxy Note has different menu, so I can not find INTERNET CALLING set up.

  • So was android until I found that out.

  • I don't have that "New PBX linked to my Google Voice". Plus that SipDroid program never provided me with credentials.

Too bad it doesn't work like stated.

It would be nice if you could make a video on how you really did that and got "New PBX linked to my Google Voice" to show into SipDroid.

Oh and btw, in GoogleVoice (web), there is no "Use Google Chat" :P

  • Can you receive call as well?

  • i cant get on my Google voice account to enable my Google chat .

  • This didn't at first appear to work until I made a few changes:

Android settings > Call settings > Accounts > SIP account Username is your.google.id-200, note the "-200".

Google Voice settings > Making calls > Do not use Google Voice...

Android Call settings > Use Internet calling > Ask for each call.

This setup worked for me, thanks.

  • im on gingerbread, and theres no option to ask before making calls. im on sprint if this makes any difference. PLEASE HELP I CANT GET RECEPTION IN MY HOUSE!

  • how can it be done without cyanogenmod?

  • @learwbc if you are running android 2.3 or higher then it doesn't matter. Most android devices have a setting (call setting) and a checkbox for internet calls. If not then you will have to flash to a newer version of android or flash a rom.

  • @todjihad i'm on stock ics 4.0.2. haven't unlocked or rooted. with this particular device have to unlock before rooting, but i didn't want to do it right away after getting the device. was gonna wait a while. it's the samsung galaxy nexus. in 4.0.x i didn't see a setting like you talked about.

  • @todjihad will this work for samsung galaxy precedent plz reply

  • hi I tried it and it gave me an error saying pbxes registration failed. when i setup the sipdroid account i forgot what pswd i used so i changed in the personal data and used the same one but it doesnt allow me to call. I havent deleted sipdroid yet for that reason. pbxes doesnt give any support pls help

  • although this method works when set up to receive calls, it cannot call out w/o going to the Verizon mobile network this way. i ended up re-installing SipDroid and use that app to place and receive calls. works great, you just have to leave that app running all the time but at least you can call out and receive both.

  • So I followed these steps and my phone works with SipDroid, but when I turn it off and use the built in CM7 method of calling it times out everytime... Can't figure out why...

  • Why would you uninstall Sipdroid!? You just uninstalled a service that integrates perfectly, has great call quality and requires no further steps in editing details w/ your PBXes account. There's no reason to do any further steps after Sipdroid creates the PBXes account if you just want to make & receive calls free.

  • @Vault15 i was thinking that too.

  • Hey, when I open sipdroid on my htc inspire, I dont have the button at the bottom that says "new pbx linked to my google voice". Did I do something wrong?

  • I figured out the problem. Google Voice on the cell was signed into a different account. I signed out, and that fixed the problem. Thanks again. BTW on the pbxes account I was confused by the three * on all the password boxes. Finally determined that was normal.

  • Thanks for a prompt reply. I can receive calls but, as I said, when I try to dial out the phone goes to Verizon even though I selected Google Voice to make the call. Checked settings again seem ok.

    Thanks.

  • Great video! I think I set up everything correctly, but when I try a call (even if I choose GV) the call routes through Verizon. The phone I'm experimenting with has no data plan or voice plan. Wanted to see if I could use it just for wifi calls. Am I missing something or is this not possible?

    Thanks again

  • Thanks for the compliment. I think google voice still needs to be used in the traditional way of calling. Even though it can be router by wifi it still sync to the number.

  • @todjihad I had the same thing happen, it could receive calls fine but could not dial out w/o going to Verizon. I solved the problem by re-installing SipDroid and letting it handle the calls. if you set-up the SipDroid app shown in the video and keep it open, it will handle both out and in bound calls.

  • @pastor22548 There's several ways to get it to work. It is completely possible to send and receive calls via data/wifi. Your phone doesn't have to be activated on a network for it to work either.

  • @pastor22548 It is possible. You can make calls via data/wifi. You might have set it up wrong.

  • i cant setup my accont on my phone it always say registration failed (timeout)

  • @MrLymmlee, Can you make a response video so I can see whats going on?

  • Great video!

  • i made the pbx link to google voice, but then i forgot 2 write it down and now it wont let me make another one!!!! it says something about trunk already with and then my username... plzzz help

  • @whatbeup9263 In my video it shows where you can delete your account. I had the same problem when i was setting it up myself.

  • @xxyugioh1xx First you don't need it. However you do need to have the option when you go to settings-call settings-internet calling. If you don't your carrier probably removed it. To get Cyanogen Rom. You can go to Xda developers-forums and look up your device and go to development section. Do a little reading and bam!

  • Great guide. I'm running Galaxy Nexus and I set everything up, but regular phone dialer times out, whereas the Sipdroid app works. I'd much prefer to use the built-in dialer, and all settings are the same. Odd.

  • @allenschneider sorry dude your having troubles. I find it very very odd it times out. Just remember you don't have to use that piece of crap "sipdroid". You can create your own pbx account yourself, it was just that sipdroid made kinda sets it all up for you. I would try it without sip droid. I'm not sure what the fark why your dialer times out though. May the force be with you.

  • @todjihad Jesus I hate how i can't edit what i type.

  • @todjihad Haha, it's all good man! As a matter of fact, the force was with me. After about an hour of going back and forth, it actually worked! For now it only works when I check off "receive phone calls" but that's fine. I only enable that when on Wifi so the battery drain isn't that substantial. Thanks again for the great guide! Happy holidays.

  • does this work for sending and receiving text messages too?

  • wow, solved my problem after watching this! thanks!

  • Let me know if you have anymore questions

  • Ok if Sip droid isn't linking it anymore then that means you have to set up your sip account with PBXES.org Sipdroid just made it easier but to be honest that step is optional. You really don't need to install it. I just did it to make it easier for people that didn't want to set up there sip droid account.

  • I dnt see how to enable google chat. it's not there anymore

  • Yeah.. I don't see "Link Google Voice" on SipDroid :(

  • Totally awesome. I had to make an application specific password, and apply it to the trunk that Sipdroid configured for pbxes.org. Flawless!

  • is there any way to do this without the CyanogenMod??

  • @sillypablo That is my question too. Did anybody answer you?

  • man your voice is hilarious

  • @Garebearbright Glad it tickled that special place! Shit, at least i didn't sound like a "gangsta talkin' jibberish and playing some obnoxious music in the background while having 3 babies screaming for attention while stretching out my strong pimp hand and shuttin' those little crumb snatchers up. I really hate watching tutorials on here, it's like you got to sift through all the garbage to find a jem! I really thought my voice sounded pretty boring, glad you found it funny! Seacrest OUT!

  • Pbxes seems to have disallowed new Google Voice accounts. See the updates on the Sipdroid issue at their website. I hope this isn't permanent as I know no other way to truly do free VoIP on Android unless you have T-mobile wifi calling.

  • so THATS why google took cyanogen out of the google market *SIGH*

  • Hey I did everything like stated EXCEPT the part about deleting Sipdeoid and works great. It uses Sipdroid to dial not CM7. Also CM7 turned off for incoming calls, I get unlimited incoming calls anyway. Hope this helps someone else too!

  • Google changed the Google voice settings so it will no longer work.

  • this is BS it dont work

  • is there another way to do this without a google voice account? or can i cross the border and setup quickly my gvoice account and would it work?

  • the password on sipdroid is encrypted how do i get it so i can log in with it on pbxes.org

  • Comment removed

  • Hey, I couldn't see the enable google chat option anymore, i think the new layout enables google chat by default and no longer needed to be checked? Help me out thanks!

  • Hi!

this is cool but, i have a prepaid plan and google voice won't work.

    any ideas/

    Jim

  • do you have to have cyanogenmod for it to work?

  • @LittleMsNigeria No, just have gingerbread based Android ROM (stock or not) that has the VoIP feature. I.e. the Nexus S has it. You also can do it via VoIP apps like Sipdroid and Csipsimple.

  • It was working earlier but all of a sudden its telling me busy line . thanks

  • Why cant I log in in the website...says wrong ID/PASSWORD Wtf.. Anybody having same problem?

  • I don't understand the significance if I seupt my phone to use internet calling all the time+GV set to make all calls versus internet calling all the time without GV? If I setup CID at the PBXes site both appear the same to the end-user.

  • Pbxes.org has been down for a a 13 hours the other day. Not sure what happend. I would just try it again. I haven't had a problem with them before. I did get a email telling me that where doing some work on their backend. HOpe that helps.

  • @todjihad i found an easier solution than doing all this, all u need is a google voice account and google voice application then download the paid app called GrooVeIP it is a paid app but its worth having free calls over wifi and 3g for life!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @todjihad and i forgot to add that u do not need the cyanogen mod or anything jus a google voice acount

  • The Registration failed message started happening to me yesterday also. It was working before. It seems to be related to PBXes.org service being unreliable.

  • I get Registration failed (404 not found). Help please!!!!!

  • not working im on wifi trying to make a call and it keep saying mobile network not available im running Biffmod Vibrant v1.3 - 2.3.5 on sgs vibrant

  • @TheKidaTech ok i change my rom but i can only make outbound calls

  • sipdroid doesn't have the "New PBX linked to my Google account" button... :(

  • @TheCordless

It does if you set up your googlevoice first

  • Did you set up googlevoice first?

  • @todjihad I see my phone number and google chat listed in my "voice settings" but i don't see a check/uncheck box before them.. I actually activated my google voice when I was in US but now I'm outside US..

  • Great video this will be awesome to use. Thanks for sharing

  • Works perfectly except for two things. I can't make outbound calls. Just rings forever. No one can hear me. Did an echo test by calling *43 and after the info message, I heard absolutely nothing. CM7 custom nightly 8/15/11 Thunderbolt....

  • Sprinit now uses Google Voice as standard mailbox. I have no option to "ask every time I call" anymore. I'm just interested in using this, if at all possible, to make international calls. Anyone have any idea?

  • @livpalm Ok, edit myself here. Once you have the account set up on your phone, go to settings, call settings, and click on "Use Internet Calling". A pop up will come up with three options: 1. For all calls when data network is available 2. Only for Internet calls or 3. ASK FOR EACH CALL :)

  • Here's a question: Can I set this up if I use 2-step verification on my Google account?

  • @Tod I cant get Google voice to verify the number on my evo 4g I'm on T-Mobile on a nexus s can I use that number to get access to free calling on the evo4g

  • Pkilla not sure what you mean. WiFI calls are free using through your 3g or 4g connection uses data, so if you have unlimitied data then that should be free as well.

Shanetrain, That's odd. if you set up everything right, which it kinda sounds like you did then you should be able to make voip calls as well through your 3g/4g connection. When placing a call does it give you the option to use "internet calling"? At what point does it say "calls have to be made from WiFi? I've never seen that b4.

  • Nice vid So I don't got to pay for nothing just follow the instructions I got a evo 4g rooted with miui rom but its not turn on with sprint well this still work with wifi for free calls

  • I can get this to work on wi-fi, no problem, but cannot get it to work on 3/4g. It always says I have to have a wi-fi connection.

  • Yes you can make unlimited calls when you are at home or connected to WiFi or 3g data.*3g data depends on your plan though...if your unlimited then yes for that too!

  • This video helped so much man! thanks!

  • i already made a video about that!!!

  • Clearly explained. Thanks.
