Yorkies are very susceptible to the cold, she was being kind getting shoes for his paws in the cold, even professional dog sledders wrap their dogs feet to protect them from the cold and thats snow dog breeds!
Your Yorkie is adorable! He looks exactly like my little guy. Ugh! I dread winter and snow as I feel so terrible for my dog freezing. I'm thinking about putting a strip of sod inside my garage for him to go potty. We tried these boots also and our dog did the same thing as yours!
I got my Mom's yorkie some booties since we live in Canada and the weather can be brutal and he did the same thing. Lol. Needless to say I had to return the booties and now he lives in California instead. :)

Short haired and hairless breeds need clothing to protect them in colder temps, Orchids, Chinese hairless, greyhounds, and others like them can get sunburned and frostbite if not clothed. Also keeping a fully coated pom in a dress on a hot day is cruelty as the dog can over heat. So neither statements you made are correct.
@theBLC420 actually I'm all for putting your pom in a dress, if he's clipped and its winter. My pom had to wear a jumper because he was shaved and he loved to chill in the snow. My female chihuahua wore a dress to keep her warm in the winter too. The clothes were bought to be functional above being cute, but then my dogs knew they were dogs first babies second.
@FiestyCat86 Seems like it would be easier to just not shave your dogs in the winter but I guess I'm glad you treated your dogs like dogs...although I dunno how its possible to treat a dog as a dog and still put it in a dress.
@theBLC420 we shaved him because he had an issue with grooming. He was overweight (we tried everything to get it down) Because of his arthritis, he found it hard to poo without getting it all over his bottom, so I had to keep it shaved for easier cleaning, and he looked better when I kept the rest of him short.
My dogs never wore "dresses" because they were boys, but its easy to treat your pet like a dog, in clothes. Its just an extension of their fur. Big and small breeds.

If I were you I'd only put them on when he/she is about to go outside. Being outside should distract him/her enough. It is for his/her good. Besides they look cool as hell.

My last yorkie (passed away aged 14) got very sore pads on her feet when we lived up in scotland and the paths had been gritted...I didn't realise how bad they were until I got home and noticed she was limping and when I checked her feet they were red raw! I felt terrible and had to stop walking her when the ground was frozen...I think the boots are a good idea if you can get your dog to get used to them.
I work at a branch and we have a customer who banks with us who doesn't wear shoes. Ever! Not even socks. She says she stopped wearing them after some kind of a problem with her foot and now it just feels weird. She said if someone put shoes on her she would probably like one of those dogs who hate boots.
This dog is not abused and is not in pain! I wish I could find boots small enough for my dog so that we could spend more time in the snow. She loves snow but her feet freezzzzz

it's pretty obvious the dog isn't in pain, or it would be whimpering or something. Imagine if you had never worn a shoe in your life, and suddenly had shoes. You would probably walk like that too! A lot of dogs take time getting used to them, and now walk fine in them.
These are specialy made for dogs - when it snows alot, the salt gets in their pads and carcks them and it burns! That's why you buy these, so you can avoid that situation.
This isn't torture, he is just trying to get used to them, geez, people, so calm the freak down.

My friend bought booties for her scottie dog but it kicked them off so she gave the booties to me for my basset hound...our basset hound kicked them off too...i too have a yorkie and he hates having his feet touched so booties arent even an option...the bootie concept is a nice idea for protecting the dogs feet but its pretty much a waste of money...and the good intention stresses out the dog in most cases.

Although you are doing what you think is best your dog has just endured a lot of stress whie you made that video. The constant head turning, distant look in his eyes and lip licking are stress signals. He does not understand what you are doing. If it snows where you are constantly I understand you may have to put something on him but I think you should introduce things slowly or ind a alternative. If it only snows now and then just take him out for short while or not at all.
Yep, he's a yorkie! At 3 pounds, he's smaller than most though. I was actually hoping he would be a little bigger (both his parents were). He's full grown. My mom has one that's 4.5 pounds and another one that's 6 pounds.

Dogs & cats will react that way to anything you put on their feet - it doesn't hurt them at all, it just throws them off because they use the pads of their feet to feel what they're walking on, and with boots they can't. That's all it is.

it's pretty obvious the dog isn't in pain, or it would be whimpering or something. Imagine if you had never worn a shoe in your life, and suddenly had shoes. You would probably walk like that too! A lot of dogs take time getting used to them, and now walk fine in them.

These are specialy made for dogs - when it snows alot, the salt gets in their pads and carcks them and it burns! That's why you buy these, so you can avoid that situation.
This isn't torture, he is just trying to get used to them, geez, people, so calm the freak down.

Ok first off you PETA wannabes these types of dogs like to be pampered, if u havent seen them in the dog shows then u might freak out more then now! those type of dogs love to be dressed up, when you think "yorkie" in your mind what do you picture? i picture them in little bows and little outfits becuz i see most of those dogs wearing that! GET OVER IT! stop being mean to this person she/he was just looking out for their dog! =/

My friend bought booties for her scottie dog but it kicked them off so she gave the booties to me for my basset hound...our basset hound kicked them off too...i too have a yorkie and he hates having his feet touched so booties arent even an option...the bootie concept is a nice idea for protecting the dogs feet but its pretty much a waste of money...and the good intention stresses out the dog in most cases.

Although you are doing what you think is best your dog has just endured a lot of stress whie you made that video. The constant head turning, distant look in his eyes and lip licking are stress signals. He does not understand what you are doing. If it snows where you are constantly I understand you may have to put something on him but I think you should introduce things slowly or ind a alternative. If it only snows now and then just take him out for short while or not at all.

Yep, he's a yorkie! At 3 pounds, he's smaller than most though. I was actually hoping he would be a little bigger (both his parents were). He's full grown. My mom has one that's 4.5 pounds and another one that's 6 pounds.

@MissBelicious Yorkie! I have one myself! They are great with kids and have a cute personalaty! They are such cute dogs! They are hypoalergenic and are great with other pets! They stay small. UNless it's a tea cup... The tea cup breed stays VERY small! (The tea cup breed is the same as the small Yorkshir terrier (Yorkie)

Cute vid. My dog hates boots too, maybe cuz your dog is not getting much stability from them, the paw is not spreading out as much?
On another note, people you need to read the description of the vid before you comment... dog booties are to prevent frostbite, as well as prevent road salt sticking to your dog's fur, we don't want the dogs licking that stuff off... Geez, chill out.

Dogs & cats will react that way to anything you put on their feet - it doesn't hurt them at all, it just throws them off because they use the pads of their feet to feel what they're walking on, and with boots they can't. That's all it is.
