  • I am completely in love with her voice, even more so in person, but WHAT is up with her hair?

  • Brava!

  • she is incredible:)

  • O I love you Renee. You are unique!!!!

  • I sang this while in the extra chorus of the Metropolitan Opera and Leontyne Price was the soprano soloist--truly one to sing the solo.

Not me--I am a lyric-coloratura soprano and absolutely REFUSE to sing the soprano solo of the Verdi; give me the Mozart, Faure, or Brahms any day.

    Merry Christmas.

  • God she's good!

  • This does not sound like Verdi......it sounds way to Russian to me. i love Renee but this choir does fit her voice.

  • She's such a gorgeous singer but listening to this makes my throat hurt. Her floats however, are incredible as is her commitment.

  • which genius told renee she could sing verdi requiem or aida?

  • my favorite part of this video is the choristers looking at renee...

  • Don't like the big portamento on 'movendi sunt' - everything sounds cheap in this version, which has a ridiculous tenor, a real joke.

  • i agree!! who was the tenor?

  • Andrea Bocelli............... wtf?!

  • @mattyslipp RIGHT!?!?! Could have been one of the best modern recordings of this had they not had him... I feel like his vocal chords are about come flying out of his body every time I listen to this recording.

  • I agree I 've had enough of her facil tics , her perfume adds ,her over exposure her pushed up cleavage .

  • I LOVE THE EMOTIONS!

  • I wan't aware of a soprano mad-scene on Verdi's Requiem...

    LMAO

  • ... the greatest "opera" that never was!

  • I received your rather terse comment a few days ago. You're right, I should just close my eyes and bask in the glory of the sound that's being produced. Thanks for the wonderful suggestion.

  • Kudos to you for that comment... made my evening:)!

  • Exquisite Fleming. I don't know what the jackasses here are talking about.

  • hawt

  • She messes up at 7:00

  • Look at her face, sheesh!

  • My coments are purely about the limitations of filmed rehearsals and nothing else. As for finding the emotion of a piece as you put it, all that work comes before the rehearsal and performance. The histronics seen here has absolutely nothing to do with the what Verdi wanted his music to convey. I'm just sorry that I happened upon this clip before hearing the results of the recording session. Ultimately the clip has nothing to do with final outcome or performance.

  • This illustrate the limitations of filmed rehearsals, particularly when the artist are aware that the cameras are running. Ms. Flemming looks and acts totally ridiculous. That a musician of her vocal skill and ability should resort to histronics seen here is curious at the least and shameful at best. This is a Rene Flemming that I do not recognize. Enough of these scripted rehearsal videos.

  • Her and Leontyne Price would make such the perfect duet.

  • What a freakin power house! i love her face at 6:58! lol She knows she intense

  • Such a wonderful recording. Powerful like no other. The only REAL annoyance is the weakness of Bocelli. Its obviously a marketing thing. Such a shame.

  • i completely agree. why did they have to ruin it with him? i really only listen to the libera me anyway on this one- i go for the leontyne price version for anything else. bocelli only belongs with a microphone opposite sarah brightman.

  • She's never satisfied. You can see it in her face. That's what makes her such a great artist. She's always striving for better.

  • I have worked with Renee before, and during rehearsals, she will move around a lot, but then on stage she reserves herself. I enjoyed every moment of my experience with her; a lovely woman and the most glorious voice of her generation!

  • ELle exagère, on dirait une diva avant de prendre son poison!

  • consummate professional

  • This is one of the greatest performances of Libera Me that I have ever heard.

  • She is just GREAT. What a singer and artist !

  • I love Fleming (really), but i find this to be a bit over the top and annoying. I wonder if she was dancing so much when the cameras weren't around.

and what's with that 'factus' business in the beginning? It sounds like she's cursing someone's mother or something.

Still, I love her. Not necessarily here, but what does that matter anyways?

Was this the recording they did with Bocelli? I can't believe I bought that (just because of Renee!)

  • it's been my experience that singer's do a lot more physical things to mentally help them produce their sound when they're not performing something for all to see. an awful lot of people move around like this during recordig sessions-i don't think it's intentional

  • to dem24utube:

this is a very beautiful piece and even i find myself sometimes wanting to dance like Fleming is in this piece. I understand her dancing. =)

  • I sort of agree with you. It is a little too much, but once in a while it's just glory!

Fleming, Olga Borodina and Gerviev...and I think the bass was pretty damn good too. Not such a bad disk if you skip the ingemisco

  • This is wonderful...what's wrong with emotion...I really like this...Renee Fleming is marvelous!!!!

  • Very interesting to see this process. My favorite thing to note is the expressiveness of the young woman in the chorus who is watching Renee so intently - clearly she knows this is the real thing. What artistry and intensity from both Fleming and Gergiev. Thank you for posting this!

  • Yes! On the other hand, maybe that young lady wanted some camera action...

  • @22and5 I agree... she was really into it, showing the distress that Renee was going through. she was captivating.... I enjoyed Renee Flemming, too....

  • Whats the deal with all the Fleming haters? Im sure she is a horrible singer-thats why she is one of the most coveted voices in the entire world. But please, continue to make all the negative comments all you Fleming haters so you can have something to talk about tomorrow at your job working the counter at Burger King.

  • she sounds like she is immulating price!

  • I have heard so many recording of the requiem, and judging by these rehersals Renee's voice is surprisingly suited to this role. Her emotion is very 'large' but it really serves the music in this particular case. My other favorite recording is the Arte Nova recording with Sharon Sweet as the soprano. Not well known but here rendition is go good that I can listen to it 100s of times and still want to listen more.

  • This is the best Requiem recording ever. Has made me a Fleming fan. Some those notes are exquisite. Thanks for the video.

  • Her voice doesn't have enough weight for this music so she seems to be compensating with all the exagerated "emoting".

  • Exaggerated has two g's. If you are going to be an authority on something learn to spell. A Fleming fan.

  • i read somewhere a long time ago that really smart people are some of the worst spellers.

  • If you are really a Fleming fan...I would not say anything because people will really think that you are deaf. Just accept that she can be great in another repertoire but NOT VERDI in all cases, and specially not the "REQUIEM". A VERDI FAN.

  • I love that. I'm a fleming Fan-issimo too.

  • Yesss! Absolutely! You are right troppofiato...invece Fleming non ha nessun fiato qui. Povero Verdi! Come si deve sentire male.. Che manierismo. Dove la diva quà? acuti e gravi poveri....Perchè ha bisogno di registrare questo Requiem? Orribile!

  • OMG She is using the Peters Edition!! SACRILEGIO!!!!

  • What is the problem with that?

  • Oh my god!!! She's not playing a character, she's emoting to the beauty of the music without an audience to judge her. It shows her real, honest beauty!!! Its breath taking!!!

  • It's nice to see her not looking so perfect. It makes me know she is real.

  • This would probaly be one of the best recordings of Verdi's requiem if that fool Boccelli didn't ruined it with his sorry excuse for a voice,he's so anoying!

  • THANK YOU!!! THANK YOU!!! I could NOT agree anymore....

  • @ufni3p ugh agreed. you think with all that money he'd actually be able to afford some good voice lessons...and you know, actually develop a professional sound for god's sake. fool indeed!

  • @ufni3p it can't be all his fault though, i mean, can you imagine giving voice lessons to a blind guy? POOF! all your visual references for producing a good sound just flew out the window

  • @ufni3p So true.

  • @ufni3p I so agree! There are dozens of other tenors who would've made it a perfect recording!

  • This recording section is like the moment of "genesis"...

  • thanks for posting this!
