Frijid Pink blasted out a viciously delightful a red-hot, amped up version of their signature song, “House Of The Rising Sun.” Musical riffs magically intertwined with maxed-out wah-wah fuzz from their instruments, birthing stunning sensations of sonancy. The crowd was in awe. As droplets of notes rained down from the air above, kids began clamoring about, jumping up to see over each others' heads, attempting to witness this incredible sensory phenomena with their own eyes, not just their ears!
The only way to make this more tinny would be to puncture my eardrums and tear out the paper from the speakers. This is REALLY good guitaring, CLEARLY.
@jamessmith1972 Pink Floyd has never played this song.....the video with the guy who sports the gigantic porno-stache and dances around like he's horny is Frijid Pink also.
@jamessmith1972 With all due respect what are you smoking dude? Frijid Pink doesn't even cross one sliver of the Purple road. I think you might confuse this with Captain Beyond, otherwise you're definitely not using your noodle.
The funny thing is, back in 1974 or so when I was in High School, a friend said Pink Floyd was coming to Providence RI. I had not heard of Pink Floyd yet. Another friend said he thought they were the group that did a version of House of the Rising Sun. He was thinking it was Frijid Pink. So, a few mistakes. I got some tickets and I ended up seeing of course Pink Floyd. I loved the concert and the experience and I got to learn about Pink Floyd. Love this though
Wouldn't it had been great if Frijid Pink and the Animals recorded this together - the sound of the B3 / Leslie combo with these guitar solos - Man would have been something.
Version I was talking about was 'Eric Burton and the Animals' in 1964. I have since learned that it is far older and known to have been recorded as far back as 1933, and could well have been written many years before.
Its actually older than that. Its one of my favorite songs to sing starting with a low bass growl and going up to a falsetto growl in the last refrain of mothers tell your children sung with the animals full version of the lyrics and finishing with the train boarding line of the lyrics in a very low bass & almost inaudible drawn out and plaintive @ dragin, these chains.

No Leadbelly didn't write it, but he also covered it. Roy Acuff did his version in 1938. According to all sources, the song may go all the way back to 1600s.
Just then they brought Mr. Burdon in & he stood right in front of me & my girlfriend- I said "Mr. Burdon ,you're the best"- he turned around -looked at me and said "Thank you." Then he saw the Frijid Pink drummer and jumped on him in glee!! They talked continuously for about 20 minutes right in front of me but I could hear nothing as the PA was so loud! Once he got on stage he worked that punk crowd into a lather! A great showman! PS I love this Frijid Pink version & guess so does Eric Burdon
Back in 1982 Eric Burdon was slated to play my buddy's punk rock club City Gardens in Trenton,NJ - As I was/am a major Animals fan I was situated by the door they were gonna bring Eric Burdon thru-A Donovan song was playing on the sound system & Iwas singing along to it- This guy jumps in my face and says "You know the words to this old song?" I was
30 at the time & one of the oldest people in the club- this guy was even older. Then he told me he was the drummer for Frijid Pink-
There are many traditions of how this song got written. It was being sung in N.Orleans before La. became a State. There are about 25 verse's. One tradition says it was being played by mouth harp by a Mississippi trapper and sung by his wife and was picked up by the Cajun/Creole community and put into English from French sometime before Statehood. But that is just one of many oral tratidions for this song. Needless to say it is a very very old song.MJ

Yeah... saw Floyd do this way back in the 70s, they had what seemed like a giant stack of ice cubes behind them. They wore long coats, so it must have been pretty cold on stage. Great band.
I remember this one, i had the 45rpm on this. It was pink with black going through it. I still like Erics version the best, but this is a very close 2nd.

How interesting perhaps then venerable sir, you could tell us who wrote it as nobody seems to known being as it is attributed to "traditional"?
Or perhaps your referring to the version from the 1930's which seems to be the oldest recording?
