  • cool!

  • I looked this up because in the 2012 world record book, Algonquin, Illinois got 4.5 inch hail

  • This is odd, the SAME header for this alert shows up as a Practice/Demo

  • its always white not red lol

  • when did this happen

  • I don't remember the exact date, but it was sometime early in the summer of 2008.

  • @weatherexpert2 On this particular day (6/20/08) 2 miles SE of Warrenville, IL as storms moved through the Du Page County area there was a report to NWS of a tree down on a house on Warren Ave and Warrenville Rd.

  • @parkman35

Yes. Some areas really did get hit quite hard with this particular round of storms.

I know there were multiple reports of quarter size hail and very strong winds, (I remember a few reports of structural damage due to trees being blown down) and I seem to remember a lot of the southern suburbs lost power.

We, ourselves in Elgin just got rain and some wind, but quite a bit of rain at that

  • I was waiting to catch a Required Monthly Test last night around midnight, but it never came. I think it was because we had a winter storm warning already in effect.

  • For weather warnings, no matter what medium, the attention signal should be a 1050 Hz tone.

  • The 1050 HZ tone is used for EAS activation on NOAA WEATHER RADIO but a combination 853 HZ and 960 HZ tone is used for all other EAS equipment, including equipment used by cable systems, radio stations or other media

  • Same with WPXA-TV here in Atlanta. The other commercial station here that relays warnings in that method is WPCH-TV (PeachtreeTV, the former WTBS) but it does so without broadcasting the EAS tones.

  • Post an example of such, if you can

  • But also, what if a viewer is colorblind and can't see red?

  • Why did the video crawl have to be in that CREEPY ASS RED FONT?

  • Well, I didn't make this. This is a real EAS activation on WCPX TV (Chicago IL) Personally, I would use the red text crawl for warnings and choose a different color for everything else but that's just me. Thanks For Your Comment.

  • I Think WPXJ (pax/i/ion buffalo) also uses it to convey a weather warning

  • Do you have a recording of such, by chance?

  • no, but in buffalo theres weather warnings all the time so ill see if I can get one. hard part is that Directtv dosent give you a local pax station, just a network feed. so I'll have to record it of an old fashoned antenna siganl, but if and when i record one ill upload it

  • Great, Thanks! Look forward To It!

  • Hey Youtube! If anyone has video of an Emergency Alert System Activation, or severe weather cut-ins/SPECIAL REPORTS/COVERAGE, Feel Free To Post Them As A Video Response. Thanks!

  • ATTENTION:

PLEASE DO *NOT* WASTE MY TIME WITH EAS MOCK-UPs. THEY *WILL* BE DELETED WITHOUT ANY NOTIFICATION.

    THANK YOU!
