  • Stunning work. I love how very alive Glen makes him look. The eyes are the best part. I have got to work on how I draw eyes...those are wonderful (windows to the soul of the Beast yes? :)

  • I hope I get as good at that... Glen Keane is truely my inspiration on what I want to be.

  • two minutes to create the Beast, while I'll take a life time - a true master at work

  • Wow, I felt like I was getting a private lesson from one of Disney's greatest animators. So much passion into drawing. I hope to work at Disney some day and I hope to learn from Glen Keane. If not, Andreas Deja or Eric Goldberg are awesome too.

  • @bigjonnymac43 my dream 2 but im a girl, bad drawing skills and i live in finland so my dream is impossible.

  • GLEN KEANE IS A GENIUS!

  • I should have gone CalArts......!

I really envy CalArts people !

  • notice how he didn't explain the placement of his lines--- top artists like him have an intuitive feeling of design and line placement.

  • He's so awesome :]

  • Beauty and the beast is my most favorite animation.

I hope Diseny studio will make one more legendary animation as they did in 90s.

  • @tatsunoko70 What amazes me is the fact that the same guy responsible for creating great monsters like The Bear and The Beast, was the supervisor for such a pretty and atractive teenager!

[IMO] Ariel is also Disney's most facially expressive female character. Glen Keane for the win!!!

I always wished Tangled to be tradionally animated, because surely GK would do a wonderful job in supervising the animation of the main character Rapunzel...

  • @oopaulorafael He did supervise it, he was the animation director, and he told all the animators to "do it their own way and to fix it later" I think Tangled overall was superbly animated, and would've been in 2D or 3D.

  • Really great !!! I hope I would have a chance to attend the class at CalArts once !!

  • it's So lucky to see the great master's drawing !

    I

  • *bows down to awesome*

  • MASTER! :)

  • omg your so lucky :D, i love his work.

  • DRAW KIDS DRAW! That's the key skill. CalArts doesn't care about finished stuff, just your sketchbooks will do. I was there in '69 and '75 and the portfolio review was about ideas and sketches, they didn't care about the 'finished' work I had. Surprise!

  • @msneverquit ?? where are you now and what do you do ?

  • @msneverquit thank you! because I can't be in a single drawing for more than10 minutes! I have to skip to another drawing and try different poses... All my friends tell me they'd like to see a finished version of a drawing of mine...

  • @msneverquit So if one wishes to get into Calarts, they just have to be able to do semi-detailed sketches? I'm confused... :|

  • So lucky.

  • man you guys are lucky! an inspiring artist right in the building!

  • doesnt make any difference.....

We still have hell a lot of refernces online...the only thing is we gotta find and use them..

  • WHOAH! Glen is at CalArts!!!

Wow, i feel better about my back up college now :)

  • does anyone know what type of pencil he is using? such nice strokes

  • looks like an ebony?

or maybe just an HB, B, or 2b...

But cuz of the black shiny shaft, how dark the tip is and how dark he gets it, makes me believe ebony.

  • even if you use the one he touched...it probably won't look as good as his....

  • però...ottimista...speri di riuscirci dopo che ti ha detto le matite che usa? : )

  • I believe he is using a PrismaColor black pencil.

It really is nice to use when making quick sketches and so it works great while doing animation

  • prisma color black charcoal

  • Is that just a soft pencil or is it some type of charcoal or grease pencil?

  • Look at his pencil lines...the familiar animator's pencil stroke! Glen Keane is AMAZING.

  • my fav disney animators

    1. frank thomas and ollie jhonston

    2. marc davis

    3. andreas deja

    4. glen keane

    5. john lounsberry

  • Wow...I wish I could draw that fast (with that level of quality)! It would take me at least a half and hour to get my drawings how I would want them. Thanks fr posting this! Interesting how Beast seems to be a hybrid of nearly everything. LOL

  • Glen is the best!! He rivals only Marc Davis in terms of one of the best charcater animators that Disney has to offer.

  • good old keane, one of the best 2D animators disney has to offer.

  • I can't believe he scribbled out a character in less than 5 minutes! It would have taken me like two hours to do something like that! Damn! I need to practice.

  • I am in awe of this man.

  • Glen is a legendary animator for me.....he's my idol. You're very lucky to meet him!

  • very inspirational

  • i went to summer camp at calarts and i recognize that lecture hall!

  • wonder what kinda pencil he uses? looks like some sort of charcoal..

  • i wish i had the money to move to america and go to calarts ><

  • I am in awe of Glen Keane. Every one of his characters is wonderful.

Quick survey to geek out: Favorite Glen Keane characters? This list pretty much begins and ends with Beast, but I'll also show love for Marahute.

  • *sigh* Glen Keane. He truly is amazing isnt he?
