I was 12 when this happened and the image of the red helicopter over the ocean is what sticks in my mind. When I told my mom the news she said "Damn. Looks like the curse is back on." That was the first time I heard of a "curse".

BTW.....What the hell does a rumor about Lauren Bessette dating Bobby Shriver have anything to do with the crash?!?! The woman, her sister and brother-in-law are missing. I could care less about her PERSONAL relationships.

I remember hearing about this and being shocked, and then throughout the day checked in a few more times, and still couldn't believe it. It was a beautiful summer day, a weekend, I believe.

By this time I had started following news on the Internet more than on the news, and some of this coverage is an example of why. I was appalled at that anchor early on who wanted to ask the family about whether a Kennedy was dating JFK's sister-in law. Just tacky.
