  • i have a question... im about to put a new weisco in my cr500 and i heard something about drilling small holes in the piston facing the exhaust port? is that a bunch of bs or is it required for a weisco piston?

  • at least this guy knows how to warm up a 2 stroke properly. lol. most of these guys i see just let it start and idle. good way to foul plugs alot.

  • the guy in the video warm it up the wrong way, it was the first start after a major rebiuld, your supposed to start it and let it idle

  • @ilikpron negative, you always rev it a few times to get the bike heated and let it stay running, otherwise it will foul the plug and shut off. besides, if it was rebuilt right, the cylinder should have been pre-oiled, and oil on top of the piston before started

  • @97warrior350 after a major rebuild it will not foul out, and the oil is burnt off the minute it starts, you avoid revving it because the piston and ring hasnt been heat treated yet, and can break very easily, once the engine has been broken in it can be revved with out a problem

  • my mistake i know nothing on offroad bikes at all. I get confused with the big dakar types bikes which have multiple cylinders.

  • sooo true we just redid my dads 1987 kx500 the bottem end bearings were shot idk how they held the rod and then something went out and it wasnt gettin good spark but we replaced some stuff and she lives again. Donno if she has enough spark yet but boy she sucks kicking cold im like 120 lbs and i gotta jump the hell out of it

  • i dont think they were ban for being 2 dangerous, i think more likely would be that there hasn't been a race class for them for like 20 years, so they didn't improve much and suspension wise got left in the dust. i have owned one, it was cool except cold starts were nasty, suspension and brakes sucked. those service honda bikes would be the ticket, at the dunes at least. just my opinion though

    There deadly as fuck, in low revs you can hit the throttle and you can flip it, never mind revin the fuckin thing up then trying it, would blow you on your ass so fast you would taste your own shit ROOOFl.

  • I know a guy that rides enduros on a 500, I can just barely keep up on my ktm 300, not sure how he manuevers that thing like a 125 but he seems to do it no problem. Out on the flats though, yeah he blows me away haha

  • 2 strokes make power faster but less power per cycle,4 strokes make power slower but more power per cycle ,plus they make more torque than a 2 stroke which is why everyone uses them in racing, but 4 strokes are more unreliable than ever, honda drops valves, yamaha loses cams suzuki loses copression real fast because of a coating in the head and ktm just like to be rebuilt, not tight enough tolerances from the factory i guess, i like my 500, more power plus i can change piston in 30min

  • i have a 1996 cr500, they all sound like that and they all vibrate pretty bad, not unreliable ,just bad vibration,hey bempa tell marty to watch out for cracks in the frame, 500's are prone to that

  • also you dont know what all he rebuilt his cylinder could be egg shaped from where the piston wore it out and the piston is rockign in the cylinder. I had that happen on a few of my bikes, needed resealed.

  • thats the rattling sound you hear when its idling - when the piston is at the bottom of the stroke - the bore is slightly tapered to allow room for expansion

  • lol and for the record i'd have to agree with the other fellas. Lose that stock 3 foot long can and toss on a aftermarket one. I can reccomend from experience the pro circuit factory sound 304 stainless series if you can find one. I love mine, They have a spark arrester built in. The pro circuit platinum pipe is awsome also. Alot of people like FMF but pro circuit wins if you ask me...More top end and thats where a fiver can really use it. They dont need more bottom.

  • The funny thing is the cr500 dont seem so Beasty to me...Maybe its because i'v rode one for so long. Seriously i could probably ride a 1000cc 2 stroke...I wish I had one of those 1000cc conversions.
