I don't get the hate for this song. It isn't like what Zero 7 used to do, but it's interesting and artistic. Plus, it's an infectious song. If Zero 7 focuses this sound, they could turn into something ten times as amazing.
Zero 7 haven't done anything good for years. The wheels fell off when they recorded 'The Garden'. First two albums - great; nothing but crap since. I wouldn't even download this Sh*te on Pirate Bay
come on this is just shit, like its not even slightly similar to the usual zero seven, i wouldnt even say this is very musical. Its pretty boring, and this whole album is no way worth listening when you compare it to the album simple things.Im not against groups taking new directions in music but this is just shit.
I've been listening to zero 7 for about 10 years now, and upon listening to this new album, I got a sort of strange vibe to it at first, kind of like i was being pulled in several directions at once.. But over time it began to feel like all the tracks belong together, in their own unique and natural way. I definitely consider it to be true artwork and something I can feel in my soul and in my body, and I value it as much as any of their other albums, which all get 5 stars in my book.
What is the big fuse about this and that lol......I just listened to this song for the first time ever, I've never followed this band but I found this song very nice to listen to. Thumbs up.
I'm an older member of the Zero 7 listening fraternity and I don't like change, Waiting Line, Destiny and Futures were unique but I miss Tina Dickow and Sia Furler who look like they have moved on. I live in Greece now so hot news escapes me these days ie out of touch.
grows on you in a big way. maybe im just their biggest fan (doubt this) but i enjoyed this album immensly. its called growing up and branching out, theyve done it with almost every album, but rather than taking smaller steps between records, they took a big jump forward for this one.

People need to stop presuming they know better what artists should sound like than the artists themselves. It's their freakin' music and they can do with it what they want. If you don't like it, find something else that you do, or listen to their old stuff, instead of telling them to change their music according to YOUR wishes.
LOVE LOVE LOVE this track. Zero 7 is one of the most forward thinking / progressive production teams in the industry. Can't get enough of their waveforms...
Who cares whether it sounds like their old stuff. Artists are supposed to change by doing new things. Amazing song structure. Amazing vocalist. how can you say this is "bad". I really don't understand. if you know anything about music or music theory, or have listened to Yeah Ghost all the way through a couple times, you would agree that this song is the most flawless one on the album. I've had it on repeat for about seven months.

This song is speaking for itself. OUTRAGEOUS. Very disappointed. There used to be a time when you could buy a Zero7 cd and every single song was off the hook amazing. Other than Everthing up song, all are garbage.
Handy, why is "unusual" the same as "mediocre" to you? I think all their songs are different, and this one is no exception. For a collective of studio-musicians to strike out on their own and be successful is commendable, not matter what they choose to express.
@Macca1969 me too but i went to see them live a week or so ago and they had a different vocalist for the tour whom i really liked. i'm glad they changed it up.
did I click the wrong link? I was expecting something that sounded like a zero 7 song. what can I say.... 2 amazing first albums, and now this :-S ..... it doesn't make sense how CAN this still be the same band?!?
The reason I just got into Zero 7 was because of this album I havent heard all of there old stuff but this CD is amazing. If there old stuff is not like this CD than I probably wont like them that much. They can go from this and then have a song like Ghost Symbol, Its amazing!
Trust me, you'll love their first two albums. There is something very profound about their first two albums. They were masterfully done. I haven't met anyone who doesn't like their first two albums.
Alright I will give them a try, but I really love the completely different styles this album has! Its like sound orgasm. I got the CD for Ghost Symbol when I heard It on Sirius XM U (which is the greatest channel in the world) But then I got the album and was really blown away.
If you like 'Yeah Ghost' you will definitely like 'Simple Things' and 'When It Falls'. I've listened to this album about three times and it's starting to grow on me. Just stay opened minded about those two albums and you will either love them their first playthrough or after several. Let me know what you think after you've listened to them.
Still the worst song on the album. If I wanted to listen to this type of song I would listen to Basement Jaxx however Zero 7 make it their own towards end of track if you can listen that far into the song.
Cool comments.....this is no patch on The Garden! Yeah Ghost is a grower, but still lack 'substance' compared to all other 3 albums. Still my fave band tho, still missing Sia, and still loving the whole vide.
This shit is medicne full stop. Zero 7 are a class act, way better than air and phoenix. these boys have a litle bit of genius going on. Sia was grat for them and her. She is gone now, grand these boys know what they are doing.
I adore this song and love the vocals. The arrangement is really clever and totally has that Zero 7 vibe. Very rewarding with multiple listens - I'm still finding layers even on 25th spin.
I can't believe that when I first heard this track I was a little bit disappointed but I think it is great now although probably my least favourite on the album. It's such a great album all round that you can't say there are any bad tracks.
There are 30 second snippets in high quality audio on the bbc music review website and I can tell you all the tracks on the album sound fantastic on the new album Yeah Ghost. I can't wait only 2 weeks to go now.
Someone who knows how to do it please post the tracks SWING, SOLASTALGIA and MR MCGEE from their my space website and new album tracks as they become available please.
I've been listening to Zero 7 almost since their creation (7th show at Roskilde Festival July 2001), I have met Sophie and Sia and have kept in touch with Sophie personally over the years...I made my son while listening to their album!....and have seen them many times live...so I feel I know their music pretty intimately. That being said....my first thought was WTF?!?!?!? and sadly enough as it is to say....that's still what I'm left sitting here saying....WTF were they thinking?
The lack of Mozez saddens me. Why couldn't they have kept that lush orchestral sound from Simple Things? That's the main reason I liked the album. End Theme, This World and I Have Seen were great!! Even 'Look Up' from 'When It Falls' was brilliant. This album just doesn't have that same feeling. It's like it went in the direction of pop. :(
I read your comment on ZERO 7 and I also thought WTF When first listening to their song Medicine Man however this is the worst track on what is a brilliant album and even Medicine Man has a Zero 7 twist in it towards the end of it and is growing a little more on me now. Don't give up on them. Yeah Ghost is possibly their best album.
What in blue blazes were these guys thinking? Why did they feel they needed to go in a "new direction"? And why is a "new direction" always mean down the toilet???!!! I am SOOO disappointed.
Me and my Wife are large Zero7 Heads, we use their music as the soundtrack to our lives. See my videos to a few live links. I have seen them live many times and we have tickets booked to see them in October. It will be interesting to see what they have planned for the live shows without Sia present. I'm very much looking forward to it, this track is more upbeat than previous so if the rest of the album is like this then it will make for a more lively and dancey live show, should be good. :)))
It's more like Basement Jaxx now - and I'm not surprised. They always seem to get along in the same direction which makes me a happy fan of both :-) They became famous for beautiful vocals accompanied with guitar strings but there's a lot more in Zero 7 music than that.
i respect everyone's opinion on how artists have to develop and evolve..... but i do think we have heard the best of Zero7 now, shame..... im going to see them in october..... sure it wont be shit, but i think they'll struggle to follow up the incredible music they've previoulsy created ( sob, sob,....)
I definitely think that if you compare it to their previous work, you'd find reasons to be disappointed but if you take it as just a completely different direction of a band and take it as a new and fresh style then you'd find many reasons to love this song. I'm personally addicted to listening to it. It's catchy, it grows on you and the beats do sound like they're a couple of tweaks away from sounding like an old-school Zero 7 song. Every time I hear Henry say 'MEDICINE MAN", I get chills.
Hearing this song inspires an emotion in me that's basically mingled frustration and enjoyment. I'm not a HUGE fan of the new sound, but something about this song really does it for me.
The Garden was the first full album where every track was fantastic. But their first and second albums have the stand out Soundscape tracks like Destiny and Sommersault.
As long as the rest of the tracks are better than this one and we get at least one soundscape tune I will be happy. This is O.K. but they can do better and get a better singer to perform with them such as Sia.
Ok..I respect the diversity but come'on... the lyrics are not even close to the classics... They dont invoke any emotion or thought... honestly this is not even downtempo... just call it what it is "pop" or maybe "acid pop" but not DT or classic Zero 7... I'm a die hard fan but their loosing me I need gritty depth!! I cant chill out with a glass of Shariz listening to this... I didnt understand a word she said and its all over the place.. I miss Sia, Sophie, Mozez and even Jose.. Z7 4 life!!
I just want the next few weeks and this month to be over with so we can hear the new album from Zero 7 and from many great artists that are bringing out new albums around the same time like Whitney Houston, Madonna, Mariah Carey, Sade, Christina Aguilera etc.
Come on people, "Simple Things' came out more than 8 years ago. If Zero 7 would keep performing the exact same trick 3 albums later they would bore you out far more than they are doing now.
Respect to Henry & Sam for searching for new sounds!
I actually quite enjoyed this track. Taking it as a new uptempo Zero 7 without comparing it to any of their stuff before, I absolutely LOVE this song and the new Everything Up (Zizou).
Solastalgia is somewhat like their old stuff. Although, not really.
wow, i was so happy to have found this video here...just to find out that this is awfully boring. been anxiously waiting for new zero 7 material, but i got a feeling that the glorious days of sia, tina and jose won't be brought back by this album...
I've listened again and it's definatley getting better. I don't want to hate any of Zero 7's stuff as they have been the soundtrack to my life. Their music is the best and their videos. I can't wait for the new album and to see them in Edinburgh.
This is the worst song that has come from Zero 7 and I am a huge fan. After a few hearings though it is a little bit of a grower but I'm pretty sure I won't like it as much as their other stuff.Prehaps a good video might help.
I actually like BECAUSE it sounds so different from the usual stuff. It's uplifting but also soothing which is amazing.

I like this now, but not at first, I can't wait for some more tracks to be posted up hopefully soon.

Come on people, "Simple Things' came out more than 8 years ago. If Zero 7 would keep performing the exact same trick 3 albums later they would bore you out far more than they are doing now.
Respect to Henry & Sam for searching for new sounds!

I'm not sure either, gonna keep listening and make myself like it. Who is the vocalist? very Macey gray.

I actually quite enjoyed this track. Taking it as a new uptempo Zero 7 without comparing it to any of their stuff before, I absolutely LOVE this song and the new Everything Up (Zizou).
Solastalgia is somewhat like their old stuff. Although, not really.

This may reach a new audience at the expence of devoted fans who love their great music like:Destiny, Sommersault, In the waiting line etc.

wow, i was so happy to have found this video here...just to find out that this is awfully boring. been anxiously waiting for new zero 7 material, but i got a feeling that the glorious days of sia, tina and jose won't be brought back by this album...
