Now in the eyes of the insurer, i suspect the car was deemed at fault as he rear-ended someone. With that said, though, the evidence shows that it's likely the biker was more focused on the police vehicles and went slow to take a look, and being distracted by it, changed lanes without indicating (after all, did any of you see any flashing lights? i certainly didn't. Whether this is due to the poor quality video i don't know, but it wouldn't surprise me if he/she didn't indicate)

None of you know what happened off camera. The bike could have appeared to be at an angle because he was changing his position in the lane (the whole lane is his). in case he has to swerve to avoid some other idiot (anyone who rides a bike will know what I am talking about).
The facts are the cars in front were braking ( and rubber necking) the bike laid off the gas, the mini van didnt and then tried to swerve to avoid the bike and hit.
The lesson is, when driving, drive stop multi tasking.

the bike cut the car off, its easy to see that, the bike is diagonal across the lane at the time of impact, and he would have been if this was just a rear-end hit, he would have been straight.

The fact is, the bike was in front and struck from behind by someone who was probably more interested in the police car parked on the side of the road. If the bike cut in front of the car, that does not cause a crash, not braking in time because you are distracted, does.

Near as I can tell, the motorcycle rider was doing a lane change into the path of a passing vehicle that swerved mightily to avoid impact. Do a freeze frame from 0:11 onwards, it looks more than a little like the fault of the mc rider.

The biker didn't change lines, he was driving at the right side of the lane because in the middle is very slippery for the oil that cars drop, and he use that line trying not to pass to close of the police car and hit somebody.

I can remember this video first appearing, there were a few mentions in the uk bike press, the guy in the car in front of the bike had braked for the car that pulls out in the first few seconds of the vid ( the person the police had stoppped) then the mpv had went into the bakc of him. Looks like the motorcyclist changed lanes into lane in front of vehicle. Vehicle should have seen it coming and avoid the collision. But I suspect driver was looking at police. As a motorcyclist myself, I must blame motorcycle.

But really the car should of been at least two car lengths behind the biker thus he would of been able to brake in time... unless it was an OAP driving or a woman driving but thinking about what she has to get at the shop!
I've heard the only reason bikes are not outlawed is that the people who ride them are so determined to remove themselves from the gene pool but are considered less likely to take others with them if they are allowed to do it with a bike.
How does anyone know that the biker had just overtaken and then cut-in? What if he saw the pigs and gave a wide-berth? I would if I was on that bike. If the biker had just overtaken the MPV then he would be going faster than it.. (quite obviously).. Near as I can tell, the motorcycle rider was doing a lane change into the path of a passing vehicle that swerved mightily to avoid impact. Do a freeze frame from 0:11 onwards, it looks more than a little like the fault of the mc rider.

my guess is the police and those 2 cars are on the hard-shoulder because of some incident. The twat in the car was too busy gawping trying to work out what had happened, and didn't look where he/she was going.

this was just down the road from me!! just past marshmills in plymouth. remember seeing the crash ages ago on the tv. nice to see a local vid, not so good to see a local trying to fly though, he made a full recovery by the way.

Well the first cop is helping the injured motorcyclist the other is radioing for further assistance such as more police and an ambulance... he probably went on to the peugeot estate that hit the bike!

the white polo pulls out from the hard shoulder (obviously just been stopped by police) the red car behind it has to slam on its brakes sharp so clearly that driver in the polo didnt check their mirrors properly, then the bike follows and is prob braking too and thepeople carrier thing behind it mows the bike down. Basically its the police fault for stopping thw white car anyway. done.

on close examination at 0:11 the biker comes into frame and is moving away from the lines seperating the right hand lane suggesting he did change lanes but the car should have seen him

Ok, the first analysis after I watched this, is:
The biker didn't change lines, he was driving at the right side of the lane because in the middle is very slippery for the oil that cars drop, and he use that line trying not to pass to close of the police car and hit somebody.
The driver of the minivan hit the bike because he or she, was watching the POLICE, instead of watching the road; while the traffic ahead starts to slow down when the white car merges the road lane

From what I can see there's no lane changing. The white car pulls out - the car behind slows as he catches it, the biker slows in response - the dozy car driver must have been looking elsewhere and didn't notice everyone else slowing.

You can see that the van already had applied it's brakes as it enters the camera view, any amount says the guy on the bike was rubber necking in the direction of the police, thats why he drifted in the that direction, speed slows and you move toward where you eyes are paying attention.

fuck you. A lot of bikers have brilliant road awareness skills because they have to look out for the idiot driving a car whilst on the phone who just doesn't bother to look. And if they get it wrong the car driver ends up with a repair bill for a smashed panel and a £500 fine and the rider ends up dead.
I admit that they ride fast and sometimes that causes accidents, but don't you dare say "9/10 times its the bikers fault"

It does look like the bike is turning to it's left seconds before the silver thing hits it but then the silver thing looks as if it was travelling to fast and if it hadn't have hit the bike it may have hit the Clio anyway!

I can remember this video first appearing, there were a few mentions in the uk bike press, the guy in the car in front of the bike had braked for the car that pulls out in the first few seconds of the vid ( the person the police had stoppped) then the mpv had went into the bakc of him. There was no change of lanes mentioned, and the bikes brake light is visible (just) in one or two frames.

As a biker myself, I must blame the biker. He should have looked to see what was coming.
That is not the location to be changing lanes.

yeah? my opinion is that the biker was speeding in the faster lane then suddenly saw the police,slowed down,turned left into the slower lane where the car hit him because the driver had no chance to stop such big car in few meters like motorbike can

Looks like the motorcyclist changed lanes into lane in front of vehicle. Vehicle should have seen it coming and avoid the collision. But I suspect driver was looking at police. As a motorcyclist myself, I must blame motorcycle.

Its most likely the cars fault... A lot of people in cars can't give two shits about bikers! But really the car should of been at least two car lengths behind the biker thus he would of been able to brake in time... unless it was an OAP driving or a woman driving but thinking about what she has to get at the shop!

I've heard the only reason bikes are not outlawed is that the people who ride them are so determined to remove themselves from the gene pool but are considered less likely to take others with them if they are allowed to do it with a bike.

How does anyone know that the biker had just overtaken and then cut-in? What if he saw the pigs and gave a wide-berth? I would if I was on that bike. If the biker had just overtaken the MPV then he would be going faster than it.. (quite obviously).. It happens all the time, car drivers often fail to see bikers, ANY biker will confirm this, The MPV was distracted by the pigs and was not watching the road in front of them. End of.
