anybody else find it hilarious at 1:16 when he smashes his guitar into the amp speaker and then some guy probably an engineer comes up and looks displeased?
What I want to know is, did Beck play on Shapes, because obviously Page did if you're familiar with his sound on Little Games. But Happenings Ten Years Time Ago came after Shapes and apparently Beck and Page both played on that. Am I wrong? Someone please clear this up.
It's in this interview/documentary that Beck ,in talking about who the eventual Led Zep lead singer would be, talks of the possibility of Steve Marriott being the one ,but he was such a prima donna that they didn't want him...or something to that affect. Do you have the rest of this interview?
I always thought that Nigel was based on Beck--his "I don't give a S&&t" attitude and even one small (I know this is being OCD) detail--he is reading Motor Trend in an airport. Beck is a known car freak..He was quoted once as saying he only plays guitars to fund his car habit.
@youtoobaccount11 that was CLASSIC!!!! his amp was on the blink and he starts smashing his guitar off the speaker!!!!! jeff beck! what an explosive guy!!! great stuff!!!
Man, Robert Plant was a nerd back then. I also NEVER thought I'd see Bonzo banging the snare with the brush sticks. I guess the drugs transformed them..
Damn, Jimmy was HOT when he was my age! :}} He had devoted his life to music, not biological research. He would have been ONE hot scientist! lol! God, I miss Keith Relf.... He was my second favorite Yardbird...
That footage was part of the movie "Blow Up." The director wanted him to trash the amp and his guitar. The guitar is a stand in because he refused to smash his Les Paul. Go Jeff!
Well, to be precise, it's Stroll On because in the movie that the scene was from -- Blow Up -- they weren't allowed to use Train Kept A Rollin'. Same music just different lyrics.
This is the song called "Stroll On" (a lyrically altered version of "Train Kept A Rollin'". The song was created for the movie "Blow Up!" (1966). If you do a search for Stroll On on YouTube, you'll likely find the Blow Up clip.
This, my friends, is part of the BEST rock and roll documentary ever done; the 10 part series from the BBC and PBS. It aired in 1995, I think.
We should start a petition to get it re-released. It's a million times better than the schlock documentary called The History of Rock and Roll, which is widely available.
Nigel Tufnel (Christopher Guest...and married to Jamie Lee Curtis) of Spinal Tap is modeled after the great Jeff Beck. Beck got it and thought it was hilarious...so they say

My name is James Page and when I grow up I want to study biological research. If that doesn't work out I will go for plan B, which would be to continue the work of Aleister Crowley as Lucifer's chief of staff, insert subliminal satanic messages in our songs, partake in wild LSD orgies, lead a whole generation of fans into a drug induced haze and conjure demons with my violin staff...just a bit of a step up from skiffle
Personally if I where page plan B what be my plan A and biological reserch my plan B. Kinda like the sound of partaking in wild LSD orgies... but thats just me
well actually jimmy actually did do lsd. in fact he said he did lsd in aleister crowley's old house. (that doesn't mean he was a satanist tho. he was just an artist who saw no boundaries so he was curious about the occult, and wanted to know about it. that doesn't mean he believed in it
Ironically, Page ended up doing more "biological research" than just about anybody.
