We're thinking about a TrueCar partnership but I sat down recently with the TRUECar Regional Manager and here's an important fact consumers should know. TRUEcar does not set the prices you see, only the dealer sets that price. Also, it can be better to take a rate like 0% vs. the cash rebate which makes the price look lower. Due diligence and a level head by buyers and dealers are key to success. That's why we're #1 in our District, 23 years in a row! Remember: You get better results with sugar
Yes, you can get some decent information from Truecar. However, keep in mind that the True Car price does not include taxes tag and fees. The guy on the video said his original "out the door" price quote from his dealer was $29,999. Out the door includes all taxes and fees! I am not sure what his sales tax is, but it sounds to me like if you took the $28,626 + ( x 5% tax= $1431.30)= $30,057.30, not including Tag fees or dealer fees. That was actually a great price he was quoted originally.
@healerdiva - The problem is the word play "OUT THE DOOR PRICE"
Used car salesman and politicians are fond of such vague non-specific terms. Why? cause it allows them to speak in half truths.
"Out the door price" could mean incl. all txes and fees or alternatively to salesman, in could mean the price I sell you for - then he would say...taxes and DMV fees are collected by the State not by me ! Therefore it IS "out the door price"
@kluber2 Apparently you don't know what you are talking about. "Out the door" ALWAYS includes Tax/Reg/Dealer Fees. In other words, if someone tells you it is an out the door price, you will simply bring in a check for that amount and receive the keys.
Therefore one should NEVER incl. State taxes, DMV fees...why? cause you will PAY THOSE REGARDLESS. So, why allow scumbag dealers to throw more numbers to confuse and wordplay you w/ such non specific terms as "out the door price"?
Match the TruceCar price or I walk !
I went to several dealers they COULD NOT MATCH TRUECAR...so i walked.
@kluber2 True car does not really know what they are talking about for several brands. I have people come in this store, asking for a true car price match. They show us their price and try it at other dealerships in the area. No one matches their prices because they think there is a bunch of incentives the dealers get that are not real.
True car . com is also getting sued for false information as well as trying to act like a broker when they do not have a brokerage license.
And how about luxury cars? A relative of mine just went looking for a 7-series, MB S-Class, or Audi A-8 all about $80,000-$90,000 cars. Wouldn't you assume that each had the same margin? Each would be equal in the amount you could negotiate off. WRONG. DEAD WRONG. The Audi could be had for $5k off (same True car offer and dealer offer), the S-Class $9k off (True car only), and the 7-Series $13k off (dealer offered $8k). $13,000 HOLY CRAP!!!! Yeah....that knowledge is worth $299 in my book.
@ConsumerWarehouseUSA Not all cars have the same amount of mark up. Not to mention that not all Honda/Toyota/KIA etc models have the same amount of mark up either.
Example, a Fit has less mark up than a Civic, which has less than an Accord.
Most people, myself included, have no possible way of fully understanding the margins in the car business. They very greatly on make, model, year and probably a ton of other factors. Yes, you pay $299 or it is passed on to you, however you get a full eduction in car buying and you will save a NET amount greater than without the knowledge. Think about this? What is a good deal to you? A thousand off? Well if TrueCar says you can get $2,500 off wasn't that worth $299? You NET $1,201 MORE.
TrueCar is legit. That is why dealers are using all their lobbying efforts to stop them. Having been taken advantage of by a slick salesman back when i bought my first car when i was young and in a desperate situation I have little love for car salesmen.
Erin - You should take a look at all the complaints filed against TrueCar by consumers who were mislead... The screen captures of those complaints are available on Flickr by searching "TrueScam". Also, how can a service that adds $400 to the dealer's cost for each vehicle sold save consumers money? In the end, all costs are passed on to the customer.
@RalphRPaglia - I used TrueCar and they are legit. The only scam was coming from the dealer who tried all sorts of tricks to NOT HONOR the price - incl. speaking to a diff. salesman listed to talk to on the TrueCar certificate !
If they dont get the price quoted, they contact the dealer and the make it right.
Make sure you talk to the specific saleman listed on the certificate from TrueCar, and not to all the dealer bullshit that will thrown your way. DEMAND that price or walk.
True car is a SCAM and are being shut down. Plain and simple.

It's interesting to see this video (intended for dealers) juxtaposed with the true car scam video (intended for consumers).

This is great PR for TrueCar! If I were a retail auto consumer in the market and just watched this video I would be dialing TrueCar right now.
I guess you have heard the saying, "there's not such thing as bad PR!"
As a former new car dealer myself, I have a few ideas as to how Dealers can remedy this situation that you find yourself in.
On nationally syndicated Car Concerns Radio USA I am talking to your prospects every week-day morning border-to-border, coast-to-coast!

try carshen.com for better service. It let dealers bid and also offer 100 dollars free walmart gift card.

I watch this video about a dealer complaining that consumers with information hurts his business. Can't figure out why he posted it on Youtube.
