  • When people say "muscle weighs more then fat" they are talking about density... why is that so hard to understand! No one says "1 pound of muscle weighs more than 1 pound of fat" why do people always say they do?

  • He is bulky and talks about not becoming bulky.

  • great information on your videos man!

  • 5 pounds in a month? So much conflicting advice, Scooby says you can only gain 5 pounds a year!

  • @KaeruthePaladin The factors that come into play regarding muscle growth are: genetics, the amount, and most importantly type of food (clean eating with enough protein and carbs, for example) you eat, and of course your exercise routine. For example, the produces of the new 'wolverine' movie wanted Hugh Jackman to 'bulk up more' for the role, so they (his trainers) got him into the gym and placed him on a 6000 calorie diet (yikes).

  • @KaeruthePaladin scooby to be honest says alot of stuff that isn't true. if you are a natural bodybuilder who has reached near his genetic potential e.g. a male put on 30-60lbs of muscle then gaining 5 lbs a year would be likely.

  • BY VOLUME - Muscle does weigh more than fat!

By your example, any two things weigh the same IF you first weigh equal amounts - no sh!t Sherlock!

Other than that - this is an excellent video and the same kind of advise I pass on to clients!

50-70 cals is a bit to good to be true.

  • @iOwnzTV yeah right. I'll believe it if you can prove it. But i know you cant.

  • pussysteak..does not sound good...whatsoever.

  • I'm 6'6 190 pounds, and I was wondering how a person like me would achieve 5 pounds of muscle in that 6 week time span? I workout and I've been struggling greatly.

  • DOOOD.. PUSSYSTEAK!!! HAHAHA SEE GUYS.GET BIG AND GET MORE PUSSYSTEAK. 5 POUNDS OF IT.. MMMM MMM.. MATTx602.. I LOVES ME PUSSYSTEAK TOO.

  • dude, you look burned!

  • John Cena.... "stay safe don't try this"..lol

  • does this work with men as well

  • im 16 and i burn 2180 calories a day, is this a good thing?

  • yeah, its totally normal, teenage boys needs minimum 3000 calories a day, so you are just fine

  • i am 15, and i only eat 300 calories a day.... is this good ?

  • @wtwh1

your 15 and very dumb as well

  • i am not dumb :(

  • if you mean 3000 yes but if its really 300 your not well

  • yes i did mean 300

  • the i don't know you managed togrow up and gain muscles by eating this not much, you should get a new diet

  • Why do only eat that. Are u a guy or a girl. Like what are your goals??

    Your body eats itself

  • @lacongerasambera i am a girl... and my goals ar to have the body of amy dumas or jennifer hale

  • @wtwh1, okayy edward cullen

  • what do you mean by that ??

  • 300???What the fuck is that???

thats for a cat. Do you want to be anorexic skinny or lean skinny or model muscle or huge like a bodybuilder guy/girl.

Its not healthy to eat an apple a day. Eat eho cares what other people think of you . workout and be happy and healthy

  • thats a bunch of BS gain 5 lbs of muscle in 6 weeks. Depends on your genetics nutrition workout ...etc ... The human body can only produce about 3 lbs of muscle a month ...and that's what perfect nutrition/workouts . ...but dont believe me look it up :)

  • 3lbs/month = 4.5lbs in six weeks.

Not too far fetched to think some people can get 10% more...

  • man lifting weights is so much better than running i can lift weights while watching tv and in 3 days i lost 5 pounds i mean wow i plan on being a big ass dude

  • how much can you bench :o

  • I heard that if you have fat on your arms and work it out into muscle your arms will looks the same because the fat turns to muscle where it is. so ur arms would be strong but just look like regular big fat arms? is this true?

  • The whole "I'll get too bulky" thing always makes me laugh.

People spend their entire lives trying to get as big as the guy in the video or as big as professional body-builders. That kind of size takes some SERIOUS commitment to lifting some HEAVY weights and eating a LOT.

Your average jane or john down just WON'T get that big lol.

  • I like your videos. but i want you to improve a few things:

    1) avoid repetitions of ideas: put things short and precise

    2) avoid mentioning fatlosse lifestyle to many times in your videos. focus on the lesson

    3) don't send to many email for those people who are signing up to your website

  • Another puzzle solved. Thanks man

  • are you john cenas brother?

  • the first smart bodybuilder i've seen lol!

  • damn. this guy really knows wut hes talkin about. good stuff

  • I understand what your saying as far as working out your muscles more allows the bones to also remodel and become bigger.... BUT you have to understand that osteoporosis is a disease in which the bones lack the proper amount of calcium along with other minerals and they become very porous, weak, and brittle. Very commonly occurs in woman after menopause. Very good video, but I would not recommend a person with osteoporosis to workout their muscles until they have fixed the calcium deficit.

  • great info

  • you look heaps like Mark Wahlberg

  • THATS IT!!!! god i was thinking all the way through (apart from this is good info of course) WHO DOES HE REMIND ME OF??? lol

  • dwarf

  • looks like a dwarf much go figure wtf u c**nt

  • darin can it be possible to lose weight and work out and lose weight?

  • @snowbanditz what does that question even mean?

  • this guy is the best.. no joke. he is giving real true information which no one would give for free!!

  • dude omfg this guy is fkin amazing, he keep giving real info and good stuff

    wowow respect to him

  • Man are you gonna be like that until you 90 lol

  • MUSCLE CONFUSION is where you get the gains after your bodies growing slows down. Keep the muscles guessing and keep them working hard and you should keep getting the results you want. Incorporate new and challenging workout every couple weeks.

  • this guy's cool

  • I'm confused, another guy I really respect (Scooby) on Youtube, says a person can only gain up to 5lbs per year(!) Darin says a person can gain 10+ in 12 weeks. Who is right?

  • Scooby thinks he knows it all, dont take what he says as the bible of body building. You dont have to eat perfectly to lose weight and gain muscle.

  • id have to say that this guy seems to have all the proper credentials and is very educated about the subject,... scooby just seems to be self taught

  • Scooby's closer. Read Arnold's Encyclopedia, he was gaining 10-15 per year when he was on steroids.

What you have to keep in mind is that world class bodybuilders weigh ~300 pounds - whenever they can add more muscle, they do. If you could even gain 10 pounds/yr, then from the time a guy started (sometimes 16) to the time they stop (sometimes in their 40's - Ronnie is still competing in Mr. Olympia at 45 - they would be at 300 pounds of JUST muscle, not including bone/organs (up to 400-450?)

  • scooby i think was saying that for himself, i subscribe to both btw

darin is saying that you can expect that when you start

understandibly it is harder now for scooby to gain muscle than someone just starting

  • Finally..... A guy who gets to the point and knows his stuff.....Keep the awesome vids coming mate!

  • love the front-lunge-jumping-clap intro, lol.

  • I've NEVER seen a bad or poor quality video from Darin Steen! Great job and thanks for the information once again!

  • what to do about stretch marks?

  • Get some of that stuff for women after they have a baby. Cocoa butter worked great for me and my brother.

  • @ChrisArchie69 there is really nothing to do about them. usually when you lose weight and get a little muscle they are less noticable with a tan but stretch marks are tears in the skin and are their forever you cant exercise them away or put creams on them to make them disappear. they may be less noticable but they are always going to be there. ask your do abotu other treatments that are proven if it is bad enough

  • love these videos

  • I'm a guy, and I also have this question. I lift weights, but I'm starting to get too bulky for my liking. How do I just tone up?

  • To put this quickly. Look at your rep range.

    Low reps=strengh

    Med reps=size

    High reps=tone

you still want to feel a pump in your muscle when you tone. If you feel nothing, you gain nothing.

  • thanks.

what do you mean by "High reps", low reps? I've been doing 5x5, and getting too big, should i just go for 1-3 reps for strength, then 20+ reps for toning?

  • hey your getting big because of your diet, cut your caloiries down a little bit or increase some cardio and see how that works.

  • @Shokeybutsi you can stick to the same program just lighten it up into a maintainence phase for awhile. the thing mycer1 said is true to a point. it all depends about what fibers your body is mainly made of that makes you respond to certain weights and reps then other people. we are all different. 3-5reps may build size for me and 15-20reps may build size for someone else. 20+reps may make you explode in size so just stick to the basics and start detraining a little or even take some time off

  • This video needs to be on the front page, seriously.

  • excellent video! i been taking your tips for a month and results are already showing

  • He's right!

And, if you don't take steroids you won't look like a monster, you know what I mean - except if you have the genealogy for it.

  • Can you do another video on Carb cycling? thx bro

  • Hello there, nice explanation especially for women who always fear to get bulky, lol.

  • I heard Darin say "there's a misconception that muscle weighs more than fat...not true"...well lookin at that scale that you've got in your hands it does weigh more because the surface area of 5lbs of muscle is smaller than 5lbs of fat...if you had the same surface area of fat and muscle in your hands the muscle would easily weigh a lot more than the fat

  • To be honest, I didn't here that but watch this vid from 3:50 he explains that 5lbs of muscles need less space than 5lbs of fat.

  • listen to the whole video and you'll understand, everyone slips up from time to time.

  • haha, dude. You're half right. The actual fact IS, muscle is more densed than fats. Right darin?

I have a degree in biomedical science, so perhaps you can say that this is more than reliable (:

  • Excellent Video, I am definitely going to start your 12 week transformation starting January. I'll let you know results, if interested.

Thanks for all the great videos, very helpful full of information!

  • love your vids mate have taught me heaps!

  • Thanks for the new video. It is truly helpful to both girls and guys. What should i do to my diet if i exercise but i want to gain more lean muscle?

  • Remember: 5-10lbs muscle gain is for a 2-3 hours a week in workouts. Somebody who has more time and more dedication can go for more with longer and more frequent workouts. A guy or gal doing an hour workout 5 times a week is going to reap more results.

  • Using steroids is not "cheating" because without good discipline to go along with them (perfect diet, working out regularly) you are not going to reap huge benefits. To get maximum potential from steroids you have to train and eat just like you do naturally.

  • I don't necessarily consider using steroids "cheating." Steroids allow you to take your body and muscle mass beyonds your genetic potential. Eventually, by working out naturally you are going to hit a plateau in terms of muscle mass and strength in the gym. You will get to a certain weight and stay there, no matter how much you eat or how hard you work out.

I don't use steroids personally but I can understand the appeal. Its tempting to triple your size and strength.

  • good inspiration man love your talks, very understandable 5/5

  • those fake muscle & fat look discusting...

    grat videooo!

  • 5*!.

  • damn how did you get that vein to stick out after all those work outs?

  • Good video man! You kind of look like John Cena in this video.

  • Impossible to gain 12 pounds of real muscle naturaly in 12 weeks! The avg person eating right and training right will only gain maybe 5 ot 6lbs in a year. The ones with great genetics maybe 10...in a year! Now im talking 100% muscle...not a combo of both which is what most of the fast gains are.

  • Hey Joe Rez,

While I respect your opinion I can tell you that I have trained over 550 people through my Fatloss LifeStyle 12 Week Body Transformation System. And most guys gain 5-8 lbs. of muscle and most gals gain 3-6 lbs., of muscle. And that is with only 2 or 3 hours of resistance training per week. But most of them are untrained. So it is easier for them.

  • I agree with that statement. For someone like my mother who hasn't worked out in yrs and is very overweight could probably easily put on 10 lbs of muscle. Of course an avg. size and moderately healthy man or woman couldn't do it.

  • agreed 100% darin.... gaining that much muscle that quickly may be impossible for people who are experienced like you and me, but i remember when i started out and how quickly i got stronger and gained muscle weight. 5-8 lbs is definitely possible.

i love your holistic approach, great videos, you make the best fitness videos on youtube man, keep it comin'
