  • battle sounds a lot like Krull

  • Out of those I have to give the win to the Last Starfighter. It has the clearest voice and best evokes the emotion driving the film.

  • "COME ON, YOU APES!! YOU WANNA LIVE FOREVER!?"

Between the battle on Planet P and the climactic fight in Last Starfighter, it's hard to choose which I liked better...

  • last starfighter rules

  • The last star fighter FTW! It's been so freaking long since i've seen that movie. The sound track was bringing back good memories.

  • The soundtrack to Battle Beyond the Stars is awesome. The movie is basically The Magnificent Seven set in space - slightly strange but quite captivating. And the soundtrack is certainly one of Horner's best. Where did you find it?

  • I actually got this from a Horner compilation album - Titanic: The Essential James Horner collection. The original soundtrack is probably outside my budget :)

  • @slightlygrouchy "The soundtrack to Battle Beyond the Stars is awesome. "

    .

Corman re-used it multiple times - you will hear it in his original Fantastic 4, which although it sucked, wasn't really much worse than the big budget crap Fantastic 4

  • @fuzzywzhe - Thanks a bunch for pointing this out to me. I will definitely check Corman's Fantastic 4 out.

  • While the movie might have sucked, the music for Starship Troopers was top-notch.

  • In my opinion, it's hard to top The Last starfighter Theme. For kids like me in the 80s, we all wanted to be Alex Rogan. To play a video game, and be called into space to save the galaxy. That theme embodies that hopeful desire, and is to date, still my favorite score.

  • I still have my original copy on VHS and will not part with it, one of better sci fi films of the 80's and a childhood favourite of mine!

  • @GuyGordon77 Victory or Death!!!!

  • The original novel " Starship troopers " by Robert a. Heinlein is totally different from the crappy film.

First of all, troopers had sort of advanced flying personal armor covering all body and not a sort of baywatch tecno suit.

Second, it was written as a pamphlet to liberty and not as a hymn to a semi nazi nation like in the film.

All in all, the film deserves a big 0!!!

All the other films in the video were great!

  • I agree,

verhoeven butchered the message of the importance of free will and the subsequent act of violence - the supreme authority - the primal impulse to defend true freedom...

    BUT

The Klendathu empire is now just a hyve, with mindless drones, dismembering teens and tweens in baywatch techno suits in gory detail with Poledouris pumping action score.

    Which is fun.

  • mmmmmmm.......

you have a point, i enjoyed seeing the film

  • Sort of remind me of the music from the first five Star Trek movies.

  • I assume that the fact this video is no longer available has gone unnoticed. I'm also sure it's courtesy of Varese Sarabande who have been on Quest to purge their content.

Starship Troopers and it's sequels, plus Evolution are VS titles.

Have they purged the "private" lists as well?

Being private you would not know if a file is there. Would they?

I shall miss this file and the Small Soldiers video which disappeared a couple of weeks ago. The reason for it's demise is obscure Not VS

  • Ah, I didn't know it had been removed. Last time it happened I was at least notified. Yes, Small Soldiers and Total Recall were removed by VS. What a shame.

  • Some great cues chosen here, especially Horner's piece from BBTS (a really first-rate score for what was a very low budget film), and the awesome "Klendathu Drop" from Starship Troopers.

  • Anyone for the great Jerry Goldsmith ?

  • He's my favorite composer, I've some of his works up already, including Total Recall.

  • Ah, right! I have discovered the movie music with Jones' Dark Crystal, Morricone's The Thing, Poledouris'Conan and of course the great J.Goldsmith. I have bought recently Small soldiers. I have gooseflesh each time I hear the passage between 5.50 and 6.2O on your Small soldier video; beautiful, magic and with the little J. Goldsmith's touch of melancholy ( and there is a nice conclusion too, from 8.00 mns ). How to do better ?

  • Basil Poledouris' best work was in Conan the Barbarian. If you want to hear him at his best seek it out. RIP Basil.

  • Poledouris was great. Robocop and Starship Troopers are both fine scores as well (I especially like the latter).
