  • This was November 2001. Think about that, that was two months after 9/11. It's crazy how far they went.

  • This was like, really early. This must've been one of their first concerts. The only time Adam ever had that hair, was when they recorded the "Great Romances" music video. Which was their first one. But Bike Scene was on the demo....right? This could've been even before then.

  • 2:08???

  • wow this is like really old, when Adam had short hair. Great Video!

  • i saw them at the valarium recently and i shouted out this song as a request and matt heard me but they didnt play it :/ oh well still amazing live. i wouldve probably freaked out at this show :)

  • Just saw them for the second time last night,

First time with the original line-up.

    They are unbelievable live.

Their mosh pits got insane, though!

    John Nolan <3

  • John Nolan : (

  • @MrDirectorMan18 Why the sad face? He is back!...

  • @MrDirectorMan18

    hes back dude!

  • This is good but I'm curious is there any videos of taking back sunday playing live with antonio longo and with jesse lacey when they were in the band I know adam played bass for awhile, just asking anyone knows if such videos exist of TBS from 1999-2000

  • John Nolan <3

  • Is there anymore from this show?

  • If you guys like old TBS you should check out Destination: Destroy Yourself. You may find some new music you dig. If not, it's cool!

  • what music is in the background at 1:46

  • its the same song, just slow part

  • @zachhh182 no you can hear like a very fanet (sp?) drum beat...mark isnt playin at that time and someone singing very fanet...neither adam or john are singin at that time...its actually a little bit after the time i said

  • at what time then? i dont get it

  • @zachhh182 its better heard at 1:55....you can hear it when john pauses singing

  • ah i hear it. howd you hear that haha

  • haha i didnt untill the day i commented on it and ive seen this video a billion time

  • Holy shit this is so awesome. this is such an old video.

  • Adam's sexay in this(: iLOVED how he looked back in the day. &iMISSjohnNolan. He was a great vocalist for this band. &iMISSfredSOOmuch. Grrrr. He was great too. No offense to Fazzi. He's alrightt. But, TBS just aint the same nomoree. iStill love em&iM still a huge fan but iPersonally love their old stuff:) But, iStill respect their newest stuff.

    FAVORITEband//DUH.

    TBSforeverrrrrrr<3333

  • look at how small the crowd is! this musta been in 2002 or so. either way, fav. TBS song!

  • Nope sorry, not a KofC, on campus of Hartford Art School

  • holy shit...is this from the KoC?!?!?!?! i was there!!!! this is so long ago omg...

    nostalgia bomb

  • check out my TBS websitee!

    adamlazzara . com

  • Anyone who says this isn't true emo is right it's something way better esp early TBS was way better than say rites of spring or fugazi. Just because somethings old school doesn't make it good.

  • Agreed on the 'old school' thing. Apart from that, you didn't make much sense.

  • Dude whats there not to understand people are haters because it's not old school emo fuck calling it anything what it is is better. also your def right about the lifetime influence. They have publically stated that in early interviews look it up on here.

  • Okay, I gotcha. I was just having a little trouble with your phrasing. I tend to avoid watching interviews, to be honest. I just heard the Lifetime influence in Adam's vocals. Lifetime are one of my favourite bands.

  • adam sounds pretty good in this video

  • where and when is this?

  • Man the old tbs=the good tbs

  • you are so RIGHT!!!!!

    nolan and lazarra singin

this is the best TBS lineup

  • austin6229, you fucking rookie. 'emo' began back in the mid 1980's, and the real pioneers of the scene would be disgusted at the direction tbs have taken that style of music. tell all your friends was their only decent record, but it's still only influenced by the early midwest sound and should never be classified as pure 'emo'. how old are you, twelve?

  • Finally someone who knows what they're talking about.

  • It's also influenced, at least in a small way, by Lifetime. Listen to Adam's voice, how do you now recognise Ari's influence there?

  • better quality plz >:(

  • deucedeuce0331...

how in the hell is this emo.

  • of course it's emo. it's just not new shit emo.

  • Comment removed

  • um its tbs what else would u name this. its not 1997 get up kids emo, but its roots of it.

  • you wanna hear the roots listen to jawbreaker

  • 2:03-2:21 wtf is adam doing? lol

  • I don't think anyone knows... probably not even Adam... lol.

  • i wouldnt expect him 2, hes kinda out there meaning weird, but cute

  • Adam's hair looks great and therefore he looks hot.

  • JOHN NOLAN!!!!!!!!!!

  • Love TBS awesome band!!

They're still great, in spite of all of the line ups changes!!

  • i hated emo till i heard this song

  • "I'll keep the lights down low so she knows I mean business"... wonder what he means?! LOL.

  • great video. its awesome that its up close. i love their old shows, i wish i could have been at one.

  • EArly! awesome.

  • they're awesome

  • I was at this show. I'm sure I had fun then but looking back--what a special moment.

Thanks Dave for putting these things on back in the day.

  • they own

  • i like how adam starts singing early and then drops the mic.

the music should be, sloppy but good and with passion

  • TBS was so much fun back then. They still are but those old songs are just incred

  • so amazing love this song, miss nolan and old tbs

  • i wonder what year this was made. i love this song so much. man, taking back sunday is so dopee.

    nice tbs, nice. :)

  • 2001 i believe

  • Jesus Fucking Christ...Amazing

  • Hey this is when they were good.

    I remember that -_-

  • i admit i prefer them back here, but spin is one of the coolest songs i've ever heard

  • Oh my, Adam was so skinny back then. And I love his hair. It makes my face go like this --------> =D

  • wow I wish they played more of their old songs

  • ik now personally i hate louder now haha and now theyre all mainstream and more popish

  • agreed.

  • I think they have matured not more popish, but they have lost all there energy that they show in this video and other old ones.

  • You guys are crazy. I'm guessing you guys didn't give Louder Now a chance because I didn't like it at first either but if you give it a chance you'll see that they matured. Same thing with Brand New it's what you should expect from a band I mean do you want them singing about breakups when they're 50. Still great music though.

  • no im saying that the MUSIC is more popish . personally i think the lyrics got way better

  • ah. i love tbs but please dont compare them to brand new. please.

  • I wasn't comparing them I was saying that they both matured on their third Cd. Also how can you like good bands like Tbs, Brand New, and Green Day and then like a shitty band like MCR. It doesn't make any sense to me.

  • Brand New matured on their third cd..tbs just sold out

  • fuck you

  • i'm unfortunately going to have to agree with Splansux here, brand new just grew up, tbs sold out.

  • TBS Did NOT sell out, its a pure progression from their other stuff.

  • green day is terrible

  • Well you've got me convinced... Green Day made pop-punk popular in North America and brought attention to something other than grunge which was insanely popular at the time. So basically their influence on music was up there with the likes of Nirvana so to say they're terrible is to call yourself an idiot. However if you mean newer Green Day you have an argument because while it's not bad it's definitely not as good as their old stuff.

  • just because they made something popular..doesn't mean that their good...it just means their popular. kind of similar to fall out boy. ask any music teacher or theory teacher. they suck at playing their instruments and its the truth. i never said they werent popular i said they were terrible...nice try

  • First of all their not bad at their instruments they just play simple music. If you judge bands by how talented they are at playing an instrument then wtf are you doing watching a TBS video. It's called punk music it's not supposed to have complicated guitar riffs and stuff like that it's a genre built on catchy guitar riffs and mostly attitude. If you don't like punk than whatever but don't say a punk band is terrible because you don't like them. Don't ever compare GD to fall out boy in any way

  • im watching a taking back sunday video because i like the band. never said they were stellar at their instruments...you need to chill out boss. and i never said anything about punk. you have the tendency to put words in peoples mouth bud. no need for your "punk attitude" on youtube

  • The point I was trying to make was that a band not writting complicated music isn't a reason to call them terrible. Punk music in general is simple and therefore by calling Green Day terrible because of their simple music your actually calling punk terrible since again it's usually simple music. So basically what I'm saying is that if you don't have another reason for Green Day being terrible then you consider punk music in general to be terrible. It's pretty simple logic.

  • greenday aint punk. listen to some minor threat or black flag, thats punk.

  • there is a difference between punk and what tbs does, punk is usually political and saying something where as bands like tbs talk about girls all the time.

  • I never said TBS was punk. Also I never said Green Day was punk but they are pop-punk and btw most bands nowadays that people call punk aren't actually punk they're more pop-punk like Green Day and if you want true punk you've got to go back to the 70's with stuff like the Ramones and early Clash. Basically punk music was dead from the late 70's until the 90's when Green Day really brought it back but like I said it has more pop influences now then it did back in the 70's.

  • yeah no in your first comment you refereed to them as punk "If you don't like punk than whatever but don't say a punk band is terrible because you don't like them."

  • punk music was dead from the late 70s to 90s are you retarded? 77 was the year for punk and no it died in the late eighties bands like the cro-mags and fugazi, bad brains all influential punk bands from the eighties. yes greenday is a forerunner of poppunk along with a few other not that popular bands.

  • yeah you talk about true punk the ramones arent the orignals go listen to MC5 and the stooges and read please kill me. then listen to prepunk bands like question mark and the mysterians or even folk bands. im not trying to be a dick but dont try to argue with someone with actually knowing what the hell your talking about.

  • frigging hell!

this video must be really old!

  • This song is so great.

  • This video is amazing. Still gives me chills. Especially the bridge or "JT "Fingers" Nolan" sings Adam's part and Adam sings Michelle Nolan's part. Incredible stuff.

  • Nah they never evolved there first two cds are awesome but sound almost exactly the same and louder now is barely listenable. Brand New is where its at

  • Perfectly Said. Brand New Is Amazing.

  • People are fucking retarded. Every TBS cd is amazing. Its called EVOLVING if every album sounded like tell all your friends, they wouldn't be were they are carrer wise.

  • i couldnt agree more

a lot of times it seems like people dont even give the new stuff a chance

  • I gave Louder Now a total chance. Was totally pumped for the release, listened to the hell out of the tracks, and I just never got what I got out of Where You Want to Be, much less Tell All Your Friends. It just doesn't have the same emotion or energy on any level. Sounds like it's been put through the "Alternative Rock" machine...

  • Tell all your friends is an amazing album where you want to be is pretty good and louder now is mostly garbage. Its really sad when you look back on some of the tell all your friends songs and remember back to when they meant alot to you like the first few times you heard them and think that you'll never hear music as good as this ever again.

  • i kno how u feel dawg...

    it sux

    =\

  • reason y ther nu stuf doesnt evoke the same emotions is becuz thats exctly wat it is.. nu stuf. Its not so much of just evolvin ina band its th fact that thy just dont have th same type of problms to write about th same stuf. If thy did 2 ful more cds lik TAYF n WYW2B it wood neva b as good as thse 2 cds becuz u can only use so much of th same stuf. thin is wit al bands not jst TBS u have 2 respect new stuf becuz is writen in a changin environmnt. u dont have 2 lik it but u shood respct nu stuf

  • I didn't read all of it, but I like how you think

Just learn how to talk like a human being.

  • had to talk like that because of the character count limit, sorry

  • @rapius002 God damn.. i don't even know what you said.. lmao.. Are you a Russian trying to type in english?

  • lol how come nolan sang excellently live when he was in tbs, but sucks dick live in straylight?

  • yeah ok.. his voice is amazing..doesn't matter what he does

  • Old TBS=Best TBS.Can't believe the epic band they used to be.They might have all the money now,but they can't make the great music John used to write for them when he was in the band.Wish they still made music like this.

  • haha wow when was this..This was the good old days.

  • My older sis got me straylight run's 1st album('shes a violinist and went to juilliard) at 1st i was like boring but after a week of listening i began to get it and now think John's new band is great,Mind u if ur not artsy or a musician(or over 25,lol)u will have a tuff time likeing it.

  • if john nolan is great why does straylight run suck.

  • because the rest of his band is shit. it takes more than one person to make a good band, dickhead

  • I was just asking why do they suck. I mean they do have john nolan he maybe good but he pissed me off when he left tbs. I could care less about him and straylight run. I will admint the first album is still the best out of the 3. But he should have never left.

  • Great song Old TBS ruled, john made great music,to bad he aint in the band cuz they suck now.

P.S TBS came out of the Long Island posthardcore scene and played shows mainly with hardcore bands, they where not emo(not sure what to call the crappy music they play now) so any1 that calls old TBS emo doesn't know crap and should get throwned into the middle of a "Candiria"pit during a brutal breakdown.

  • Totally, john nolan is the man.

  • where you want to be and louder now don't even compare to tell all your friends.old tbs hands down, no competition. fred can blow my dickhole

  • awesome....oh i miss those days

  • i miss their old style. their still totally awesome and my fav band though. this is kinda crappy quality though. i saw them live a couple weeks and trust me they sound a whole lot better.

  • Old Line Up = Best

And was this shot at the Sahara on Long Island?

  • i think where you want to be is probably their best album from a musical standpoint. i love tell all your friends, i really do. but if you think about it where you want to be is just tell all your friends but recorded better. it's just as whitty and powerful

  • you are absolutely retarded. Tell all your Friends is easily their best album, they are al awesome but louder now and where you want to be dont stand up cause john is much better than fred

  • PS. I fuckin love you guys. .myspace.cum-classclown

  • Yes, Tell All Your Friends will always be the most influential and greatest EMO album of all time. But dont hate on TBS because they got a new line up. Shit happens, bands mature, sounds change. Last time i checked Taking Back Sunday are platinum selling artists and could rock you or any of your sox off. Not to mention they are SO loyal to their fans..Matt and Fred are extermely talented musicians, not to mention really nice guys.

  • straylight run suxxx

  • tbs is and was always amazing. the end.

hes soooo young in this video. its cute.

this song makes my insides wiggle.

  • damn this is a good video.

why cant u guys just say that and not like argue over when taking back sunday was better there always good.

  • i kove tbs

  • what i mean is that straylight run owns and taking back sundays albums Where You Want To Be and Louder Now are terrible. But Tell All Your Friends is great. TBS sucks without John and Shaun

  • some what agreed.

starylight does not own tbs ever,

but tell all your friends was easily the best

  • TBS used to be so incredibly great. They were so orginal, such awesome ppl, so talented. the taking back sunday stuff is terrible. they lost all the orginality, and are doing what every other band out there does. I admit that I LOVE straylight run, they kick the new TBS's ass, but taking back sunday needs john and shaun back. John can sing so much better than Fred. and shaun is WAY better at bass.

anyways, taking back sunday USED to kick ass!

  • FreedaWat???? What?? The man is an idiot. You "LOVE" straylight run but hate TBS now?? lol...

  • matt is a way better basist than fuckin shaun dude. matt has way faster fingers. fred is a better singer. john screams all the time.

  • they is no way the new lineup is better, even as good as the old

  • John does not scream all the time and when he does it is magic so stop bein a gay

  • Yes, yes John Nolan was the original, and nothing beats originals, but Fred Mascherino is a good successor

  • the old guitarist's stint in tbs was during a time they were still young and had youthful lyrics and funny stuff included to their music.

when fred came to the scene, the band was already more mature and dealt with more serious stuff..but the fun was never lost anyway.

old or new tbs, the music is still very, very awesome..

very talented guys! TBS is definitely one of the best bands ever!!!

  • david apuzzo as in the photographer?

  • long live old tbs

  • f*ck yeah this is prime-time for TBS. whatever the back-up singers name is in this clip they should have kept him... he's heaps better than the current guy thats in there now. oh well every band fucks up somewhere

  • i love adams hair like that

  • I miss old tbs, fuck straylight

  • I wish I wish I could have been there.

  • ahhhh old tbs!! steals my ♥ everytimeee

  • Adam is better then john TBS 4 LIFE

  • Adam Is So F**king Sexy Back off B***h's

  • in the very beginning, he drops the mic stand lol

  • they've grown up yes. But John was still in the band back then. TBS is still good, but with John they were awesome.

  • They're still good, they've just grown up, shut up.

  • wow...how long ago was this

  • oh yeah....i forgot about the days when they had feeling.

  • Ya drugs will give you that "feeling"

john isnt even that great, Fred is so much more talented.

  • fuck that fred sucks

  • fuck you, fred is good.

  • great frontman

  • yes this is when tbs was good ppl

  • this is so bad

  • Hey! i wanna steal his mic.

    theyve chnged alot.

    still farkin awesome but different.

    xD go TBS!

  • love.

  • ILL LEAVE THE LIGHTS DOWN LOW

SO SHE KNOWS I MEAN BUSINESS

    haha.

    :)

  • dirty, dirty

  • This song is honestly my favorite all time from TBS among many other lol

  • Uhm I love this song

  • god, if only their shows were still like this instead of huge auditoriums. i miss it. =(

  • me too

    :'[

  • i know huh??!!

    :[

  • where was this taken, and when?!?!?! i wish i was there :-(

  • they have always been so amazing.

  • what a great piece of rock history! monterey peninsula bike scene.

  • for sure. love this vid. david how many more vids are from this session? i have ykhid, are there any others. cant wait for more tbs vids from you
