2 by 4's are ugly but work; and with 4 inch screws into the studs. you layer 6 inch squares and use a 2 by 10 by 12 for the crossbar. and the side plates; took the cops a tow truck to back through it; after snatching the iron door. i heard my neighbors iron door get smashed through yesterday by a 17 yr old with a chunk of my bricks from my flowerbed. broke the iron door to shit. i have carpets and pitbulls; plus i like the 2 by 4 or 2 by 10 by 12 look. im single also..lol
No one likes to think of their home as dirty, but the reality is people track a lot of dirt, debris, grass, etc. in to their homes over a period of time. It is NOT IMPOSSIBLE for that "bracket" installed down in the subfloor to become clogged or even filled with material so as to prevent the door club from working properly. Therefore you would be reauired to vaccuum it out frequently & perhaps use a tool to dig out hardened material. Still this product is definitely better than nothing!
I like the door club idea. I'm not convinced it will keep the door attached to the door frame, though. A neighbor of ours had an entryway that was recessed from the walls of the front of the house, not much different from the one in this video. They instealled a security door of iron at the corners of the home's wall. This gave them the ability to open the front door & easily speak to people & still be protected with a distance of about 5FT, beyond the reach of anyone who tried to grab them.
i like the idea of the door club thing, but what if they realize that he door is being held by something at the bottom, and they knock if off the top hinges? then they could just lay it down and they're in, right? or am i just crazy?
call 911 so they hear entire event. YELL "don't make me shoot!" holds up in court. Do NOT shoot intruder who is fleeing. Shoot in back is murder except in Texas even though guy was trespassing. You still go to jail for a long time. If he points gun at you don't wait - shoot - NOW! because if guy sees 870 pointed at him but does not flee he is on meth!
one way to look at it but police and experts on subject say do not have shubbery in front of windows for bad guys to hide behind. I'm just repeating what many books have in them. Yes, sturdy steel doors and window guards but a minute of alarm time is an eternity. Barking dogs and loud alarms. By then I'll have two Remington 870 shotguns plus yelling at the intruder. 870 stops 80% of the time. if hit torso kills 90% of the time. under $300. keep under bed. alarms outside house. call
Maybe I'm too sceptical but I don't see a point in buying an item that cannot secure the door when I go out, while having so many easily breakable windows around for an attacker to go throught... I'd save some money and do some serious home security for all the doors and windows. But I live in an European country where this kind of door would be used for bedroom, not as an entry door. :)
There is a product - it isn't cheap - for shatterproofing windows. It's a thin film you apply and then the person can't get through even with a baseball bat. They use it for hurricanes and for protecting cars from attack as well...
One other solution (or supplement) to hardening your doors is the Door Devil Anti Kick in device. It is a very easy install that replaces your door jam plate. It costs around $80. This, combined with your device, good locks, 3M treatment for large glass areas and you are good to go!
If your good with carpentry and metal working make your door jam with steel c bar over the 2x4If your building your house just put a square steel pipe over the 2x4 where you want the doors. Make or modify a door so it has bolts that come out of both sides like a vault door.
@Survive2Day Yea i know what you mean, but i just though I'd throw the idea out there. Maybe some one will see and find it use full. It wuold be interesting to see a video of someone who tried it out.
"angry girl scout" lol. cool product... will check it out! as for the window on the side...there are some security films that you can apply to it. although that would probably just delay them.
@DEMCAD ya i have the front of the house covered in decretive rod iron but he back is is lacking with that huge sliding glass door.i guess boarding it up the first sign of trouble would be the best thing to do . i can pre drill the holes now and buy the bolts and washers and cut the boards so its ready to go.maybe use that corigated wavy steal that people use for roofs on sheds.
To get past the roses, throw a blanket or jacket over them, you can do the same with barbed wire. You can use a bottle jack and a 2X4 to spread the door frame and open the door that way. You didn't cover the glass window beside the door, needs to be reinforced or removed. Nothing stopping them from ramming the door or window with a vehicle either. How about the garage door, really hard to secure too. You can cut through with a saws all, False sense of security. May keep out burglars but not mob
Interesting! Never heard of the door club before but it looks pretty decent. If you lived in a ugly part of town you may even want to consider rebuilding the door jams with reinforced steel around the wood to prevent a blowout. Because I have a hunch after enough rams against the door club, it may just break a cheap wooden door. If you have a steel door... the $40 door stop is sufficient.
Only thing that sucks with rose bushes is if there was a fire and both front and back doors were blocked or something and you had to use a window to get out.....OUCH!!! that would really hurt! But awesome advise!
@preparedchipmunk Laugh if you must, but Mike is right. Do you really think that the Girl Scouts are going to uphold the Promise and Law in a SHTF situation? Once the inventory of cookies is gone, all that training will be used to jack YOUR stuff.
Great Product......I have another great product you should check out. It is a High Tempered Safety Glass Storm door with steel decorative frame and large security latches. Check it out .....It is made by Larson and is called the Larson Secure Door. It is nice in appearance but stout in the security it provides. We installed them on our front and back doors.A nice unexpected benefit is the seal it provides to keep air in the house and not allow any into the house.
What about that big 3 pane window right beside your door? It seems like it would allow people to see inside your house and if they see something they like then they can break the glass, stick their arm in and unlock the two doors. Then they can bend a hangar, reach down, and pull the door club out of its base and they are in your house.
The thing I have never understood why the door opens inside way to the house. Here in Finland were I live the out door opens to outside way so kicking the door in is practically impossible to do. You need an axe or chainsaw to come troug it. Maybe you could install door that way so you do not need that device and don't have to drill your floor.
@Odin1978 But aren't your hinges exposed when it opens out? Someone could pop the screws or bolts out of your hinges and remove the door entirely, unless your doors are designed differently?
@TheGreenerGardener The hinges lie between the door and the jamb no matter which way the door opens. There is no way to tamper with the hinges either way.
@TheGreenerGardener Well you can get break in proof hinges for your doors and the basic ones are bretty solid too. It would take about one hour and special tools to pop out the bolt. You can get also those bolt systems where the bolts go to door frame and then it doesn't matter if they pop out the hinge bolts.
Um.. your window on the side of the door is a great way to break into your home. It is really important that people have a deadbolt installed that at the very least is locked with a KEY from the inside if they have any kind of window areas in the door or next to it. I could simply break the glass and unlock your locks and even pull up your club device.
Of course, if you have children and need quick exit through the front door you probably shouldn't have glass anywhere near the front door. Keyed deadbolts can cause a hazard during a fire or other disaster if people can't have easy access to the keys and need to get out quickly. Its probably best to get rid of glass doors, or the little windows next to the doors like at your home.
@sc00b3rt "Its probably best to get rid of glass doors, or the little windows next to the doors like at your home."
Optimally, no home should have any glass at all. H. G. Wells pointed this out 75 years ago in his movie Things to Come: leonscripts. tripod. com/scripts/THINGSTOCOME. htm
"LITTLE GIRL: "What a funny place New York was--all sticking up and full of windows."
"Everybody lived half out of doors. And windows of soft brittle glass everywhere. The Age of Windows lasted four centuries."
Mike, thanks for the showing this product. You should also look into the OnGARD product. TheLordHumungus has two videos on this. Its not as decorative as what you've shown, but appears to be very stronger.
You are so good at doing these videos. Clear, concise and on topic. Thanks for posting. I didn't know about this product. Looks like what I need. I had to laugh though, I just purchased 4 rose bushs this past weekend to plant under my windows. lol. How old are your bushs? I'm wondering how long it will take for my little things to grow large enough to be effective.
Great vid! A tip for those replacing their door screws: Replace half of them at a time and don't over tighten the new screws past the point of old ones. If you torque the hinge plates down too much you can ruin the door's ability to seal properly. If you are using extra long screws make sure all light switch/electricals are far enough away from the door frame to avoid getting juiced.
The point of the chain across the door is not to keep people out. But, in the event that the intruder does not die and tries to sue you, there is evidence of breaking and entering. I swear you are the retard here for thinking anyone would recommend not shooting...
@GivingYouTruth I was explaining the reason for the chain lock, not recommending that you stand there and let the intruder do whatever he wants. You missed the whole point buddy. Damn dude, damn lighten up and take a blood pressure med.
