sounds great... one question though.. Why do you switch from the mac axlebacks to the flowmaster american thunders or vice versa? What were the pro's and con's of both?
@Musclecarfever13 The MACs sounded great. But they droned like a Mother! Plus they were a tad too loud for where I live. So I experimented with the AT's. They're a little more quiet, no drone with my setup. And personally sound better under accel in my opinion.
how much does it cost to get the cams installed?? i wanna do it to my stang but im kinda new to this stuff lol. any help will be greatly appreciated thanx guys(:
You mean just got a mustang and looking for cams? I would checkout Brenspeed's website. I drove to their shop to have them put in. There are plenty of other places you can buy these. I just happen to like their work, Brent is very experienced with the 3v motors and will not sell you something unless he's certain it will work with your application. They have stand up customer service
Charge Motion Delete Plate. Basically it allows more air/fuel to be sucked in from the intake manifold. The factory plates have these little flab valves, that move further open as you throttle on. With the valves removed, its essentially can suck in more air/fuel mix as the car is idling. Which for these cams, helps greatly.
Just a FYI, if you do ever install CMDP's, it will also drop your MPG by 3-4 in city driving. Highway isn't effected too much. WIth 4.10 gears, these cams, the delete plates, my car is avg is 19mpg highway. City, well, you just dont' want to know the answer to that one..... :)
Thumpr 1s, or just Thumpr. I don't think they note them with a "1". But from what I understand, the Mutha Thumprs have more aggressive idle, but its a faster idle, meaning it doesn't have as low & deep lopes in the idle. But neither require a spring change I believe and cost about the same. Its all about preference in sound really.
Honestly I didn't notice almost any loss with the cams. Maybe 1mpg. But later on I added CMDP's and I lost about 5mpg for city driving. Those and gears are a killer.
CMDP.....i have the shelby gt package....came with 3.73 gears...so gears im good....should i get the CMPD's???? is it worth the horse gain? and what all benefits did u get from it????....louder interior/ exterior? anything? you've been extremely helpful!
Require no, recommended absolutely. I tried driving mine without CMDP's for about a month. It wasn't easy. Brenspeed was able to tune the OEM ones to open up under part throttle, to simulate delete plates. This helped, but once I put the real deletes in, it was so much easier to drive. Slow starts were much easier too. There might "MIGHT" be a 5-7hp gain in the high end, but what they really do is make the care more driveable with cams..
Required no. Recommended yes! But you have to remember, the Hot Rods have a little less aggressive profile. The reason the thumprs have their sound is they have a longer exhaust duration... there fore it takes more to engine, more rpms per say to make it driveable. Hence the recommendation of gears.
Going in on Thurs do have the Mutha Thumpr Stage 2, Cam Phaser Limiter Kit installed. Have 4.10's, CMDP's, Mac LT's, o/r Prochamber, thru Flowmaser American Thunder AB's. Hope they sound similar to yours. Very NICE!!!
I recommend to anyone considering doing these Thumpr cams: Before headers, UPS's, other exhaust, do gears first. For manual trans you'll need at least a 3.90 gear, 4.10 is more optimal. Not saying you can't drive the car with stock gears, but you'll be reving the piss out the engine just to get the car moving. And another one, is definitely do the ChargeMotionDeletePlates (CMDP)
How much was the install for the cams with labor included. I'm in the market for cams as well to put on my '05 GT. I want a deep sound like that. How did it help in power increase? Also was there a major loss in MPG?
The total was $1400 installed. I want to say the parts were about $800, got Brenspeeds tune for $75, Cam phase bolts for $45, and then the install was about $400.
Compared to a regular cam installed, one that requires a spring change, that will run you almost $1500-2000, just in labor cost. So this is pretty good in comparison.
hahahaha. 300 @ flywheel. Most people getting the 6 will opt for an Auto trans. Take 18% away for drivetrain losses and your at 246RWHP. Then add how heavy the camaro is (almost 3800lbs dry so close to or over 4000lbs with driver and fuel)
I love the great debate, Ford vs. Chevy guys. Who gives a flying fuck. "Eh I'm a immature Blue Oval bashing idiot, cause Ford is stupid and Chevy is good"!
V6 vs V8 are two different breeds of engines.
Don't worry, if your one of the millions of idiots that voted for Brobama, nobody is going to be driving Mustangs or Camaros here in the near future, so none of it matters. But thanks for the -/+ comment.
The shop I had then installed at, the Dyno was out of order basically. There is a local Dyno Day event nearby that runs 2pulls for $50, so I'll be getting dyno #s this April. I'll post them up on here when I get them.

Not bad at all. I ask because this is the first major mod I want done that way I can mod around this with Shorty headers, mid-pipe, UDP's, etc.

I forgot to mention, the MPG already sucked. My gears dropped it pretty bad. But the Cams didn't affect the mileage at all.

Camaro ss 4.6 Seconds
Camaro 6.1 Seconds $22,000
Mustang GT 5.3 Seconds $27,000
Take that V6 put $5000 into it & it blows the GT out of the water. Getting more bang for your buck.

I was stating that there is more potential to make higher HP ratings in a new Camaro - V6 or V8 ~ No I did not vote for Obama
