I smoke weed and cigarettes, I drink probably once every couple of months. I don't care if a person wants to do drugs or not, it's up to the individual. What Ian seems to dislike about straight edge is that it killed the DC hardcore scene by splitting everyone into factions of drug users and dickwads who thought they were superior. DC hardcore was supposed to be a scene for everyone, and Ian resents that straight edge divided.

Could you point me to a quotation? He says he doesn't smoke, drink, or do a number of specific drugs, but he has never said to my knowledge, "I don't put anything in my body that could be considered a drug," nor has he ever said he doesn't take caffeine. He's not a Mormon or anything.

I think you're confusing the rigid ideology of his Straight Edge "followers" with his personal views. He's given credit for edge, but he was never an adherent of what it's become today.
