The founders proclaimed the best form of government to be a Constitutional Republic. It worked wonderfully for a long time and one of its main principles was established by George Washington to "avoid foreign entanglements". (see his farewell address)

I'm quite familiar with Newt's baggage. Yes, it's bad stuff. But all I see here is a question asked of him that struck a rather deep chord in him. He's human, whether you like that FACT or not.
