There is nothing wrong with using a digger to pull a tree down... but use chains and pull straight in the direction that you want it to fall, from many feet away.

doing it like it was done in this video risks flipping the digger over, having a tree hit the digger, or possibly blowing a hydrualic cylinder or worse.

Tree felling is serious,it can kill in a heart beat!

Pulling over a tree with a winch actually works quite well, though generally the technique is used with a bulldozer which is heavy enough and with a long enough, strong enough cable and there are no obstacles (ie your house, that high voltage line) in the way. You get the roots that way. Certainly not a technique for your back yard in down-town wherever!

If you knew the first thing about what you're talking about you'd realise he has already cut it with a chainsaw. My guess is he had to guide the tree down a certain way to avoid a wire or building or something like that.

Then he should have tied a rope near to the top of the tree and pulled tension on it in the direction he wanted it to fall as it was being cut.

That's the best way for a novice to drop a tree.

A professional would drop it exactly where he wanted.
