  • Kris, this tip is awesome. In this order it works. Thanks for fixing my problem.

  • throw out computer buy a new one long live apple, glory to the mac

  • Seriously , my fucking computor is broken now , i cant even turn the computor on now ... Seriously need help !!! :(

  • i cannot thank you enough for this!!!! I had been having some troubles with my macbook (and quite honestly am in need of a new one soon), and i was just about ready to throw it out! But in only 2:07 you've changed all that!!!

  • May I write down the instructions: 1) Power down your mac. 2) Take out the battery. 3) Unplug magsafe from the mac. 4) Hold down the power button for 5 seconds. 5) Plug the magsafe to the mac. 6) Wait for the indicator to go green. 7) Put the battery back. 8) Turn on the mac. Is this correct so far?
  • @saturdayfunmachine he didnt say put the battery back in

  • I have an Macbook air, how can I take the battery out?

  • Awesome fixed my problem. Thanks!! Their instructions are out of order. I was putting the battery back in before the mag safe!

  • I unplugged my magsafe and let my battery die completely. Then I left the magsafe in the port overnight. In the morning, I unplugged it and replugged in, and it started to charge again. I had no luck with SMC resets and battery pulling.

  • Worked like you said, thank you for putting that up.

  • Worked like described...

    Thanks....

  • Good info. If it doesn't work for you try firmware, that was the problem with one of my MB's.

  • I did what Chris said, followed by a resets described by bobbthompson. I actually did it every way it was possible and still got no response from the battery. Yet, everything is working great on a different battery. System profile shows: battery installed=yes remaining=0, capacity=0, charging=no, aperage=3653, voltage=84. All of those parameters are terribly wrong (espacially the last 2). The battery should be great, though. It has 203 cycles, never been dropped, no spill... wtf?

  • This worked for me, along with the PRAM and SMC resets afterward as suggested by @bobthompson! Thanks!

  • mines still not working any tips?

  • THANK YOU

  • @krismacbook your advise worked thank you!!! Just saved me a trip to the apple store

  • You guys are awesome

I followed the KingWi11 instructions to get my battery charging again and - BINGO - it worked perfectly.

    Thanks a ton guys

  • Hey i got a macbook pro. 2011. How do i fix this?

  • Thank you! It got the light on the charger to turn on. Had to reset PRAM / NVRAM (power down: option + command + P + R {hold for 5 sec and release}) and SMC (power down: shift + control + option + command + power button {hold for 5 sec and release}) after to get the battery to charge, but the resets didn't work before this fix. Thanks!

  • @bobbthompson Thankss!! You've helped me allot.

  • I love you man! worked on my daughters macbook for hours found your video and it worked! Thanks

  • easy fix for my battery thanx!!!!!!

  • Does this work on Intel (Aluminium) Macs?

I have one from early/mid 2010, and the battery says: Not Charging, and there is no light from the charger.

The new Macs, you cant take out the battery, hmm, you can, but you need to screw and stuff.

Will try this and see if it works.

  • Thx! But here's a tip, I tried this 1st...I did not reset, simply connected cord then installed battery, turned it on, battery charging! Before I had installed battery then connected cord...battery not recognized. So cord then battery and perhaps no need to reset. Why do they call it the Genius Bar?

  • Thanks, man! Worked like a charm!

  • Awesome! Worked for me. Thank you!

  • Kris I love you brother! Im filipino also! I <3 YOU@!@!

  • Thank you very much. It worked for me.

  • It worked for me. I love you!

  • Mine just stopped working a minute ago. I plugged it in just before it died (as I like to exercise the battery even though I am mostly at home), and I thought it was charging, but then it died, and the charging light isnt coming on. It's a brand new MacBook Air from October though, I guess I can just call them or bring it in and they'll fix it.

  • what did i do if this didn't work for me :(

  • GENIUS! Thank you! I had the exact same problem ... my 10 month old daughter also put it into her mouth!! Brilliant.

  • I got too excited too soon ... it didn't work for me. I tried twice. My adapter is actually showing an orange light the whole time (this light was shining green -- not sure why it changed.) When I plug it in, (after it's powered down, battery out, held power button for 5 seconds,) it never turns green. : ( booohooo.

  • This just saved me from a nervous breakdown.

  • OMG THANK YOU!! LIFESAVER!!

  • PURE GENIUS! This magic worked for me! Thanks a million

  • Chris! Thanks man! It worked!

  • let me just add that apple just settled a class action lawsuit regarding the magsafe T adapters (i.e. macbooks 2007, 2008 etc) not "L". they are faulty. apple will replace your T magsafe adapter with an L free of charge. CNET, among other news outlets, and apple's websites has more information. just bring it in, mention the lawsuit, you'll get a replacement.

  • Thank You!!! It worked like a charm and saved me a trip to the Apple store - time and cash.

  • it works,,... thanks!!

  • You are the bomb Chris. I am an apple tech and you figured out what was stumping me big time. Thanks!

  • Thanks for sharing this, Kris. Worked like a charm.

  • omg....it worked!!! Thank you for sharing this info.....awesome!!!!

  • You are awesome! Thank you!!!!

  • hello chris are we talking about the macbook pro 13'?

  • it worked!

    thanks a lot man!

umm can i know what the problem was?

so i dont repeat the mistake again?

  • Nice, it worked! thanks!

  • You. Are. Amazing!

  • What if u can't power down due to being dead?

  • in most cases its the charger. dont need to take any thing apart.

just spray some electrical cleaning spray on all the contacts. clean with a little

    brush.

    done!

  • i left my macbook (as usual) not having a fully charged battery at the sleep mode for few days, when i pressed the power on, it did not start so i connected it to power cable and waited few min, and it booted up (as usual so far) but this time without having the battery charging.

I tried your way twice but still i get this as battery status "NOT CHARGING", is there any other way to fix my battery or reset it without replacing it pls.?

    thanks

  • it dont work

  • For some reason it isnt working for mine...its shows the charging symbol plus 0% and when I click the symbol battery is not charging appears

  • my is macbook air, how do i take the battery out?

  • switch to windows

  • Mac safe board ?

  • it worked! million thanks!

  • Thanks Dude!!

  • Thank you very much for posting this! I noticed my battery was showing some erratic behavior. It was dying extremely fast. Then it went to 0% and as soon as you unplugged, it'd die. I googled "macbook not charging" and found a thread that had me reset the PRAM, as well as your video and followed the instructions to a T, and it worked! Thanks again posting this!

  • @mikent256 Looks like I spoke too soon. I unplugged the computer and tried a different charger in a new room. As soon as I unplugged it, the battery went from the 30% charged back down to 0% instantly. Maybe a bad battery finally?

  • thank you @KingWi11

  • Thank you very much man, first I had to clean the pins from the T connector but once I done so I tried and not charging yet, AS SOON I FOLLOWED YOUR INSTRUCTIONS BOOM! STRONG GREEN LIGHT AWAY THANK YOU!!

  • all of these steps didn't work for my macbook but i found another to fix it that is open your macbook and take out the battery connector. clean it because sometime the dust block the pins connect to the battery or motherboard and put it back to together. when you put it back together, you should checked the part that connect to the battery have to be straight. if it go up or down a little, it will not work. i tried my macbook and it works fine now.

  • ........I LOVE U :D

  • Another way to fix it is by,

    1. Take out the charger

    2. Take the battery out (when the macbook is still on)

    3. Put the charger in

    4. Put the battery back in

  • I have the much later macbook and tried the smc reset and that didn't work and I found out that water got into my magsafe without me knowing so try another charger because that may be a factor

  • Great tip my mac battary back to

    Life

  • didn't work for me. made no different to settings - still says the battery is not charging and at 05.

  • fuck face u talk too slow

  • Kris, thank you SO much!!! This worked and I can get back to editing Gumpert apollo and Evolution MotorSports videos!!! Much appreciated. If you're ever in PHX, beer is on me!!! Using 13" black Mac Book Pro. Thanks again!

  • THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU FOR THIS!

  • Didnt work for me.

  • how can you take the battery out? I think my macbook pro battery is built in

  • hurry up !! i have onLy 2% Left

  • Sweet! My 11 mo. old was sucking on my magsafe today and I'm having the same problem. I hope this'll fix it. Thanks! (Kids these days!)

  • Thank you! Worked great!!! Happy, happy, joy, joy!!!!!

  • Omgggg this happend to me plz help me out as I can't take out the battery my little cousin put magsafe tip in his mouth too and it just stop working

  • i cant take out the battery i got the OS x

  • Is this for batteries that arent charging or batteries that have a low battery life?

  • @mkidkap123 no charge problem

  • Let me just reiterate what he said, because it worked for me.

    1- Power down your computer

    2- Take out the battery

3- Unplug the magsafe (power adapter) from the laptop

4- Hold the power button down for five seconds

5- Connect the magsafe to the laptop, wait five seconds/ or until it turns green

6- Plug in your battery (and lock it)

7- Turn on the computer and sigh with relief

  • @KingWi11 take out the battery !!?? it's a built in battery for god sake

  • @rm04ever you don't have a macbook, you have a macbook pro. My suggestion is to spend the money and have the apple store look at it

  • @rm04ever no need i just unplug the magsafe then hold the power button for five seconds and when i plug the magsafe back it started to charge again :)

thanx by the way for your summarizing Comment

  • @rm04ever he's talking about the older Macbooks with the rectangular battery. They are removable. Not sure what sort of Mac laptop you've got, but the newer models batterys are built in, so this video won't help!

  • @KingWi11 what if you can't take out your battery?

  • @mclovinapple Everyone can take out their battery, just google how.....may take a bit of courage but every macbook can have it taken out.

  • @KingWi11 @krismacbook OMG MARRY ME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Both of you Ive been stressing this thing for a freakin week thinking ive got to replace the damn logic board. I FUCKING LOVE YOU!! THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I have a midterm due in 8 hours THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • So glad I found this video, it worked great, thanks!

  • what about the macs that the batteries cannot be taken out? do we do it with the battery, wouldnt that just start up the computer as i press the power button for 5 secs? help!

  • thanks!

  • holy shiet thank you so much!

i was about to go to the Apple store but thank god i found this!

  • Thanks. Great Explanation.

  • OMG thank you i thought my battery was donzzo

  • thanks a lot! it worked! resurrected.

  • Thx a lot!! Perfect!!!

  • life saver!

  • Uhh, I done what you said, but when my Macbook boots up, all i get is the white screen with the apple logo then the screen goes black and won't do anything when I press the power button, disconnecting the magsafe lets me re-boot it but it just keeps going black and pretty much shutting down. Sadly my Macbook turned on and ran fine before I tried this :/

  • im still in warranty, will that be gone if i unscrew the backplate of my mbp?

  • do you have to remove the magsafe jack board from inside the laptop too?

  • it worked!!!!!! thank you so much!!

  • Could someone write the steps, please?

  • Worked perfectly! Thank you so much! You just saved me over $100 for a new battery!

  • After 2 months of messing around with new parts I finally committed to buying a brand new Apple battery; 20mins after it arrived, I found this video and my Mac's old battery is sorted! Just hope I can get a refund on the extra battery....

  • Didn't work for me.

New battery, new powerline, just not charging the battery.

  • Thank you for the easy, quick fix!!

  • Part 4 (final)

I calibrated the battery first thing when I got the MacBook pro: charged it to full while it was off, unplugged it and ran it to black screen. Held the power button to power it off, and recharged it to full.

Sorry to overload with all of this info, but even the apple guys didn't know, so precise is better.

Anyone, please help. This is a very expensive machine, and I need it to last many years, and this battery issue doesn't bode well.

  • Part 3

-after leaving my computer plugged in a long time (over night once), I unplugged it, and it beeped and said, "running on reserve battery power"

-I will be playing World of Warcraft (very big and demanding game in terms of computing resources) and charging the battery. The timer displays a really long time remaining until fully charged. I saw 20 hours once.

This newer comp seems better than the first, because after a while, it usually corrects itself, but something is wrong.

    I calibr

  • Part 2

-the mag-lite shows orange or green, and the battery indicator on the top right displays, "not charging", only providing enough juice for it to run while it's plugged in. Keeps happening after unplugging and re-plugging many times.

-sometimes the computer doesn't even recognize that it's plugged in (no light and no charging info on the top of the screen, at all)

-after leaving my computer plugged in a long time (over night once), I unplugged it, and it beeped and said, "running on r

  • I've been searching everywhere for help with my battery issue:

A few months ago, for my 21st birthday, I got a 2010 17in i7 MacBook pro (not a solid state HD) BRAND NEW from the apple store.

I'm now on my 2nd one, having had to replace it through apple care. I'm having the same issues, which are:

-Randomly throughout charging the MacBook pro, the mag-lite will turn green, when the computer is no where near finished charging

-the mag-lite shows orange or green, and the battery indicator on

  • i've been havin sum keyboard issues& i found it somewhere on utube that if u remove the battery& put it back again it shud help. i tried it&it dont work. now my keyboard dnt work& my whole macbook wont even turn on.. my battery's fine, it's charged up to the 3rd green light, but I have the battery charger connected to my comp& whether the orange or the green light is on, it's not charging my battery~ my main concern is my comp not turning on if my batt is charged y wont my comp turn on?

  • Perfect! Thanks a lot.

  • perfect...it worked great

  • 100 % right well done.

  • Thank you. This worked great!

  • hi kris. I had a somewhat similar problem with my macbook, as result of a small coffee spill.

I tried do thing the way you suggested, twice. The first time I just got a green light in the magsafe and the battery did not charge. The second time, I even disconnected the power cable form the power plug on the wall, and it worked. The magsafe went orange while the macbook was shut, this was a signal that it was charging the battery.

Thanks for your video. Be afraid of coffee. Be very afraid!

  • @marcomalves i did exactly what you did and it seems to be charging, if it doesn't work my second option is taking my sisters battery =p

  • Hey man, I have the same problem and I did it as you say, but still my battery is not charging. My MacBook doesn't recognize the battery. What should I do...? Thx
