@drumttocs8 Nah, if you were him your genes would have definitely made you so talented that it would be a waste not to make music. You owe the world you know.
@strokesonfilm I think there was some tension between Ike and the Zappa family over's Ike's "Project/Object" Zappa tribute band with Bobby Martin. However, when I saw ZPZ, Ray White was the special guest and he played/sang on almost every song. The man still has a great voice and plays a mean blues guitar.
Great video anyone bitching has never seen a Zappa Plays Zappa show I've been to five the 2006 best concert I've ever seen and I've seen 100's of concerts from ac/dc to van halen I think ZPZ really honors Franks memory and gives younger people a chance to experience Zappa don't get me wrong I love project object as well Ike Willis is great to long live Franks music
Seriously the Zappa family needs to fuck off. Gail is claiming that we are not playing his music, "correctly", therefore we are not allowed to play his music in public, even though it is covered by performance licenses.
I think what Gail is really saying is this: "Noone but Dweezil can fuck up Franks music music" or "Only Dweezil can bastardize his guitar solos".
This makes me want to write an album about her, ZAPPA STLYE!!! oh yah...
Enter Gail Zappa on a golden throne with marital aids stuck all over it, and ATM machines following her like little puppies(her greedy off-spring) wagging their tails:
Gail: down boys, down boys, you too Moony. Dweezil come downstairs i have something to tell you
Dweezil: wut mom?
Gail: There are a lot of people fucking up your fathers music, and the atm machines are hungry
Dweezil (picks nose) and so...
Gail: Well, we only we YOU to fuck things up from now on

this is cool. If you don't have to capacity to understand the music being discussed here, never mind the rack of gear, stop showing the depths of your intellect; it's about ankle deep at best.
I'm wondering if the effects circuits in the guitar which /doesn't work/ are meant to be phantom powered off the XLR connector. It is usually just used for mics, but there is no reason other gear can't be designed to use it. Of course, the only way to know for sure is to take it apart, trace the circuits, and hope you can figure out how they were meant to work. A lot of analog stuff is simple, but some might as well be black magic. I'm guessing custom work inside Frank's guitar isn't simple.

This isn't a particularly complex rig. There's just a lot of stuff in it, but really, it isn't more advanced than more reasonably sized rigs used by other players.
Dweezil has recently restored the Hendrix/FZ to just about where Frank had it in '77. The only difference (at the time of this writing) is the neck which is more like the '82 neck. I believe he has plans for adding a neck with a rosewood fingerboard. He recently showcased this guitar with Alice Copper on the Tonight Show and talks about this on his website.
15:20...... uhm.... what the FUCK did he do to earn that guitar. He shouldn't have been allowed to look at, think about, or breathe in the same room as that piece of history. Then he continues to metaphorically shit on it by leaving it under staircases and attaching random parts to it. Wow. ruined my whole day -- scratch that -- YEAR.
@Brayds Seems like he could have donated it to SOME museum or charity auction or SOMETHING. It's not like he doesn't have enough guitars. He definitely wouldn't have missed it.
@Basebalfan18 I think it's better off being used by a notable musician rather than sitting collecting dust in a museum. The only original part is the body anyway! Guitars are meant to be played man. Regardless of how special they are.
God bless the both of them, but there is a reason that Frank & Dweezil never found main-stream acclaim, they muddied the guitar playing waters with 2 many unnecessary equipment add-ons & technique's.In the words of my 2 favorite axe men of all-time:"I just play a guitar man, that's it & that's all!"- Jimi Hendrix & Jimmy Page
Love it. A musicians heaven. The Toys. I like the guitar and the rig. The studio too.
If I ever get one of those studios I am going to celebrate. That DBX compressor is awesome. Great peddles. Amazing how a patch bay system can be controlled from a peddle and make such incredible sound. Very cool gear. Thanks for the video. Zappa was amazing. Gibson makes such great guitars. Love the 335s.
@TCFBbob Yeah, but there is a LOT of other peoples shadow that living in would blow a lot more. I imagine if FZ was my father, I would be enamored also. I think it's great that Dweezil keeps this stuff alive, and this video is great.
Dweezil is one of the coolest people I have met after a show. Anyone who bothers to teach and talk to his audience is truly bound for greatness! He's there! Great show if you can get a chance to see them live!
IF he wasnt such a gear addict he could recreate every single sound he needs from within one piece of powerful software like guitar rig, and do away with all of this hardware.
I've been following Dweezil as a performer since 1986. I can honestly say that I get more impressed with him every day. I am really eager to see what he does after ZPZ (whenever that may be).

I don't use anything but clean & distortion, BUT also understand & respect that Frank created something like a sonic painting. He already proved that he could play over & over.
You can hear his old man's voice in him sometimes :')
I expect he refers to his dad as Frank in the studio and on tour so as not to make things confusing for everyone he is working with, and maybe so as not to get emotional? just guessing
Very cool Dweezil! Interesting&thanks for sharing these things with us, what an honor to see&congrats on your Grammy Nom for Deathless Horsie, Rock Instrumental. Proud as hell of ya!!!
It would take me a year to learn how to use all that stuff!!!! I have a digitech rp1 made in the 80's and for some reason through all of the abuse it still works. I have a zakk wah and a boss sastainer and a volume pedal also bass and thats it lol.
@roxtar10870 I'd like to be holed up in that place with a conveyor belt delivering hot bottled sausage, fluffy buns and cool clean water. The history of the kit IS important Rox...won't make you play or sound like the guy, but hey, I always thought he used an SG and an AC30. Quite interesting how much kit is needed to recreate a primitive "Zappa guitar" sound on Dweezils' tribute gigs. Frank might have looked like and played an idiot on stage but he was a unique and gifted musician/arranger
Dweezil and the Zappa Plays Zappa crew I saw in the UK in June 2009 was absolutely awesome. He and the band are the only ones who could pull off the often insanely intricate patterns of Frank`s compositions.
Hey loved your dad i am 50 in january ,you are a great player too, so is your father. I love all the equipment, but I know you are saying when frank used this equipment instead of my dad used this equipment. I have kidsToo and I know you are talking to his fans. You are smart like your dad, mabe you could say dad used this and did that. I am a guitar player too, But honer what you are doing.
@jachel2000 You doooo realize that Dweezil Zappa didn't post this video? Nor will he ever read your comment and write back to you...I'm just always confused by people who write comments directly to famous artists on YouTube. It's almost like you people don't understand how the internet works!
It's curious how he only calls his dad "my dad" a couple of times throughout the entire presentation, but calls him 'Frank' the majority of the time. I wonder if that was something the producers of this piece wanted or if it was Dweezil's choice?
Does anyone know if Dweez & his bro's/sis had a very good or any relationship with their dad??
@sowhatdude1 I've heard him refer to FZ as "Frank" most of the time, so I don't think that it was something derived from guitar world or any outside input.
They had a free relationship with their father. Moon Unit kind of regrets it, wishing she had a more traditional upbringing, the others didn't seem to mind.
As near as I've seen, Dweezil mostly uses "Frank" and occassionally uses "my dad" in interviews.
They had a very good relationship with their father. Frank told his children to call him "Frank" out of respect. He wouldn't tour his fathers music if they didn't love each other.
Hey whazup???????lets put some knobs on Guitar's today that would be gr8

12:54 Frank is probably rolling over in his grave hearing his son pronounce "Wagnerian" incorrectly.

@liquidtension Frank's probably more angry at Ahmet writing confusing books for dyslexics.

@liquidtension Sorry to sound ignorant, but what was incorrect about it? I mean, given
that the one pronouncing it speaks English as his native language?

I don't care 'bout FZ's sons!.. only Frank Zappa is the real great musician!!

I just saw him at the Warfield in San Francisco--it was totally amazing. They played Titties and Beer, and I Promise Not to Cum in Your Mouth.
ktwheels44 1 year ago
You can hear his old man's voice in him sometimes :')
I expect he refers to his dad as Frank in the studio and on tour so as not to make things confusing for everyone he is working with, and maybe so as not to get emotional? just guessing

Screw all the fancy guitars and amps.... I'd just love to be able to play 1/10th as well as either him or his father.
roxtar10870 1 year ago 41
@roxtar10870 If you could play 1/10th as well as Frank, then you could play non-fractionally as well as Dweezil.
mdpocoroba 11 months ago
@roxtar10870 i can play like them but choose not to
brucekirk89 9 months ago

I am a guitar player too, But honer what you are doing.
jachel2000 1 year ago
@jachel2000 You doooo realize that Dweezil Zappa didn't post this video? Nor will he ever read your comment and write back to you...I'm just always confused by people who write comments directly to famous artists on YouTube. It's almost like you people don't understand how the internet works!

It's curious how he only calls his dad "my dad" a couple of times throughout the entire presentation, but calls him 'Frank' the majority of the time. I wonder if that was something the producers of this piece wanted or if it was Dweezil's choice?
Does anyone know if Dweez & his bro's/sis had a very good or any relationship with their dad??
sowhatdude1 1 year ago
@sowhatdude1 I've heard him refer to FZ as "Frank" most of the time, so I don't think that it was something derived from guitar world or any outside input.
Music4Ever 1 year ago
@sowhatdude1
They had a free relationship with their father. Moon Unit kind of regrets it, wishing she had a more traditional upbringing, the others didn't seem to mind.
As near as I've seen, Dweezil mostly uses "Frank" and occassionally uses "my dad" in interviews.
rockman627 1 year ago
@sowhatdude1
They had a very good relationship with their father. Frank told his children to call him "Frank" out of respect. He wouldn't tour his fathers music if they didn't love each other.
