@KTVKENYA We just don't care, when I was young I thought the country belonged to Moi, today the likes of Tinina think it belongs to Kibaki. Being Kibaki's country it does not cost much to undress it.
I don't understand what this is all about. Is the economy more dependent on the flower export industry or the lake? At all times, the economy must be first priority. I'd rather sell flowers and earn hard forex than have a big mass of water sitting idly!
The problem in Lake Naivasha are the flower farms, get them out and let them poluute their country Holland. They thrive on slave wages in Kenya sell the flowers with holland labels, thus denying kenya the patent, the list is long english tea, africa blue coffee and all kenyan products shame on our government
@Ned: Yu right...CNN and Fox news don't both with rivers and conservations news. Private citizens take initiative and use own money to save the rivers and Lakes. Their local gov't , the Dept of Environment are very strong on cleaning up pollutants...it's an tough task especially if the areas in question ni deadly ghettos kama NewWark and Passaic. Yu can't clean up hoods!
The fish are the tip of the iceberg. The majority of workers in flower companies are casual workers earning KSH 150 to 200 per day not to mention the precarious health conditions and the drudgery of the work. Send a doctor to Naivasha and she will confirm uncountable dermatological, respiratory and unmentionable worst complaints, among those who have worked there for more than five years. This is why the companies insist on casual contracts, to avoid responsibility for the unhealthy workers.
NEMA is not so keen or may be toothless to fight the big flower farms. Yet it was the same NEMA that ordered the closure of slaughter houses in Nairobi untill they found an alternative way of disposing animal blood and waste which was being dumped into the small rivers feeding into the Nairobi river.
Yes there is but unfortunately underfunded. We also have a UNEP headquaters for heaven's sake! We may never fully understand why France could not have been more appropriate for such a structure. Why is it in a country where the environment is not taken seriously?
River Karate died over 30 years ago and Malewa is drying up! Valentine and Funeral flowers in UK n EU cities are key in the wiping out of Lake Naivasha. Farming in Nyondia, Kinagop and Njabini along the tributaries suck up water supply! Greed is what killing awesome Lake!
There gotta be a balance between growing the red flowers and the Lake's survival! Here just a few rich men are behind the conspiracy...unlike Mau!
you r the stupid mongol, maybe the polluters of the lake have oiled ur ass with kitu kidogo...thats why u r up in arms.

Now you want the government to blind its own citizens? What we need is reality, not stupid showmanship as you are supporting.
