The reason Earthbound hasn't been remade/put on the Virtual Console yet is because it contains many things that would most likely get Nintendo sued, like someone below me already said. For example, the red cross on hospitals and on hats were taken out because it might have referenced the Red Cross Association. And it's not just little things like that, they're gonna have to change some major things too, like a chunk of the game's soundtrack. Mother 3 might have the same problem.

It's the principle of the thing. Yes, one can download roms of the first two Mother games in English, and since the fan patch came out, (which arrived long after this video) Mother 3 as well. But it doesn't change the fact that Nintendo of America is, for reasons unknown, ignoring some of its most loyal customers.

But personally, with all 3 games available in English now, I really don't care anymore. I'm satisfied, and it isn't worth getting worked up about.
