@timoxomit i personally dont like the ipod touch due to its large size. i would support the zen, but the original Zen and the Zen x-fi are also very good. (The original zen is discontinued, you can buy it from ebay) So i would get the Zen. Although the Ipod is often alot of fun, it is VERY breakable and is and should not be used for exercise
@KLxSkyLight but the difference in sound quality isn't big right? Because I went to the electronic store and the person told me that even although zen has the x-fi technology the sound quality mainly consists of what headphones are you using and where you get your music from.
Since I use skullcandy SkPros and download my music from internet I don't think there will be much difference between the zen and the ipod, am I correct?
@timoxomit Part 1: Well, ive never had an ipod touch, but i have compared music from my ipod nano to my Creative zen with x-fi on and off. If its sound quality, for this comparison, it depends the type of music your listening to. For classical music, they sounds pretty much the same, but with the x-fi on, it sounds different but in a good way.
@timoxomit Part 2: For rock and hip hop, i would say that the Zen gives a better and "less rockier" feel to the music than the nano, but with the x-fi on, it sounds different. just different. so it depends on what type of music your planning to listen to.
@timoxomit Part 3 (sorry theres 3 parts, you tube has a limit on characters allowed per response): Also take into consideration the size, because if you like to exercise and keep your mp3 in your pocket, you most like are not going to be able to fit the touch in your pocket. so its all up to you. Hope you get my response in time. Happy Christmas eve and Merry Christmas!!
@timoxomit Sorry for the VERY late reply. Well to me, it doesn't really matter where i get the music from, but if you think about it, i guess it does kinda depend on it. (like 10%) To play good music, a systems sound card has to be good, although there were some occurrences with other mp3s that the MP# file was corrupted and caused a screeching noise. But never happened with the X-FI
can someone confirm that it supports accelerated fast-forward? (the fast forward speed increases the longer you keep pressing the FF button) please confirm.
i've had my creative zen 16GB for a couple of years now. now i hav a problem.
the brightness of the screen seems to be permanantly on 10%. if i go into settings and change it to 100% it displays that it is 100% but is still as bright/dark as 10%. this is really getting on my tits now that im trying to watch films in darkness and i like the 100% brightness as it gives it a vivid display.
does anyone know if theres a limit on the expansion card size? because I was thinking I could just get 4gb player and stick a 16gb SD card in it, and it would work out alot cheaper. anyone?
Now that I have moved to a Windows 7 laptop I have discovered that they have done virtually nothing to make the Zen work with the new OS! I downloaded the new sync manager that claimed to work with 7 but even when the player is connected I still get the message "there is no player connected, how can I use it when it doesnt even recognise the players there! and good luck trying to get answers at the Zen site! its useless they don't even acknowledge the problem! this is plain incompetence
@katakisLives I find this hard to believe because I have a Zen Vision:M, which came out in 2005 and as state in this video, was replaced by the Zen. The player and its software works perfectly with Windows 7 on my laptop. Have you tried running the compatibility mode in Windows XP? I don't do need to do this, but its just a suggestion.
@Andrea320 I have never had any trouble using the Zen player on Windows XP, the sync manager worked fine! it was when I tried to use it on a Win 7 laptop, first the install wouldn't work with the original cd, I then went to the Zen site and installed the sync manager and when I connected it it said "no player connected" I even tried updating the firmware, the only way to get stuff on it is by putting it on desktop then dragging into media player! the sync manager does nothing.
@katakisLives I realize that... but have you tried installing and running the program so the compatibility setting is Windows XP? I also use 7 and have absolutely no problems with it, and it recognizes my much older Zen Vision:M. I cannot recall how I installed the software, but I would recommend installing it on your laptop with the compatibility set to Windows XP.
I have the 4GB model, I've had it nearly a year! I just got a new laptop, I have no idea if you can sync it with a new PC without wiping all the existing content!
grab your zen and get somethin small and thin maybe a long pin or a needle then there is a reset button push the mini button inside (this is were the needle comes in) and it will reset the drive and start the system back up. it doen't delete the files i have done it before
just bought this online not more than 15 mins. ago. its replacing my ol' skool. zen micro. i've had my zen for what would be 5 years this christmas. i kept putting it off on buying a new one. until recently only because my volume scroll doesn't work anymore. well hardly works. so hopefully i can keep this one for just as long.
cool i might buy its awsome im buying since my zen v plus broke are there anyproblems with the zen please any info can help plus creative is selling a refirbished 4 gig for 50 its in the outlet part of the site
well everyone I know who got one is really fond of theirs. I finally broke down and got an 8 gig one. I figure if I need more room the SDHC card slot is going to be a life savor.
Does anyone know exactly how common a problem the white screen of death is for this player? And if it is, in fact, a firmware problem, then does downgrading the firmware really fix the white screen problem?
Second, can you put text files on this player? It would be amazing if you could.
Very nice video and on my website you can have access to special gift offer by purchasing a MP3 player and then get 3 months of Napster downloads. Just go to my profile and see under music section.
i really dont get it, some people say that they had owned the zen and it had lasted for only 1 month to barely a year and other people say that they had the zen for a very long time now. i want a mp3 that lasts so should i go with the zen?
I have not had any problems. I have a stone for over a year and it works great. I gave another one my friend ( can't remember the model) and she uses it over a year. I just bought this one, creative zen, for my daugther. Is Great... she loves it and I think it will last long, but it all depends of who uses it. If you drop it many times I don't think it will last long.
i've had my ol' skool zen micro for almost 5 years. replacing it with the zen only because my scrolling not really working anymore. and trust me. its been through a lot.
creative zens suck!!!!! I bought an 8 gb and it stopped working after a few months they had horrible techinical assistance and it cost me money to call about a refund it wasn't a toll free number! after i recieved my replacement mp3 player i had the same problem with it about 3 weeks after igot it iam still waiting for my 2nd replacement
I have owned a Ipod before and it broke. I was looking into the Zen but i was wondering if when you plug it into the computer/laptop will it pop up on itunes like the ipod did? ... can someone plz answer this ASAP!!!! thanks to that person
thanks for the reply. i forgot to ask. can i just drag and drop any videos i downloaded or do i need to resize it to 320x280? i read in other reviews it says i have to do it otherwise the player will lock up
I have owned a Ipod before and it broke. I was looking into the Zen but i was wondering if when you plug it into the computer/laptop will it pop up on itunes like the ipod did?
sadly my comp doesnt have an sd slot or attachment(one year and it is already emensly outdated 0_o)i think there is a way to on the player itself,it has a folder saying imported, but im not sure if thet is how to
That import folder are files imported from the SD card to the ZEN. Or you can slot in the SD card in the ZEN and connect it to your com via the USB cable. I think i will work too :)
Well, you can put the SD card into your computer first (or a card reader if your com dun have an SD slot) and drag your music and photos and video onto the Sd card.
You can buy any sd card and it will work with the player, now you can buy SDHC cards, these high capacity sd cards can hold up to 12 gb and its still growing.
oh oops lol shoulda watched it a little further through, this zen looks great but im unsure about it still, anyone else have final words before i get it lol
I got a 4gb zune and it was never able to turn on... so I took it back and got a 2gb zen and a 2gb sd card for 90 bucks. It is pretty good... it has a few little quirks but the screen is one of the best. Wish it had an auto off setting for the display... cuz as of now you have to lock it to turn the disp off and then unlock it if you want to change songs or turn up the volume. I find myself hitting that switch way 2 much.
i got onjw , it's has been 3 weeks now, love it, a must if you're looking for a great screen display. I'd give it a 9/10, only problem is that the shuffle systme is not great. And there's also the problem that if i turn it off for more than a lapse of time, i can't continue the song that i was listening. Except for that, everythings works fine, it's really a good mp3
I got one of these a while back now: The only issue I have is that the audio/visual on video is completely out of whack. It might be annoying as it only supports a few formats but it converts everything you put on automatically. If anyone has any suggestion the audio/video sync then let me please know. Aside from that I love it!
I heard it's slow and generally crappy... isn't it? suppose I don't have time to convert a video to an appropriate format :) anyway, what is the format the movies are being converted to to fit the zen?
I've heard problems with the software given with the mp3 player, what are they? like that you can't Drag and Drop files with windows explorer after the instalation of the CD. And cant somebody please answer this, i have windows 2k (no comments about that please XD) and i would liek to know if i could always use the mp3, like drag and drop files into it????
I'm thinking about getting this, but I heard that the sd card doesn't integrate with the library, ie you have to go to the menu and select the sd card library to play videos and tracks rather than it being included in your library. Any firmware updates to fix this? It seems pretty crazy in this day and age for the sd card to function in this fashion.
Wow, i love this thing, brought one off Ebay, for 55pounds, $115 Australian dollars, and thats about $125US for the 4Gb, did i get ripped off? Anywho, great player, love the file support and drag and drop, always handy. I wish Apple would adopt drag and drop, and the mp3 file format, its such a pain to have to sync your Ipod and then convert mp3's in acc, grr, Apple is evil!
Man, i finally bought today (4gb) after my RCA bricked itself yesterday. Only paid $89.99+TAX(canada)...Easiest MP3 player i've ever used! First things first... It would be so much better, not that there's anything wrong with it, if they put all the buttons along the bottom of the screen (sorta like the home/vol+-/display/sound/select/start buttons on a PSP. Then they could of made the screen almost an inch wider. Oh and...Plug & Play rules! :)
I'm thinking of buying this player and if anyone could answer this question for me, it'd be much appreciated. Basically, I know you can't access what's on the player's memory and the SD card in the same menu, but can you put videos on the SD card and play them back from there or does it have to copied off the SD card to the internal memory?
Sound quality is definitely good. But I'm not sure zens are that reliable. And Im not trying to bash creative products. Im just going from personal experience. I've already returned 2 zen vision m's. Hope Zen is better.
so far, I have had "0" issues with this player, I love the screen 16.7 million colors is clean and accurate and very , very nice looking. I am watching guys an dolls, the entire movie. sweet. I did download the latest firmware so maybe that helps with any bugs it mat have.
does anybody know weather it supports windows media player or quick time because that would be a main reason for buying this amazing pmp (personal media player).. thanx!!
argh... i havent even taken delivery of my 8gb model and im already having buyers remorse for not spending the extra $50 and getting the 16gb....bleh but i guess every penny saved is a penny earned
well if you use to drop your devices, you are either too clumsy or stupid so... to begin with, your question is pontless. Every single device that falls from a distance to a hard surface, it breaks. Just how smart you need to be to understand that? That's why there are protective silicon cases. Oh and by the way, the device is pretty sturdy if that's what you want to learn.
i don't think it should scratch easily (unless you wear it in the same pocket with keys or something). it catches all fingerprints quickly, but that's the other thing.
I'd like to buy the 32GB version of this player (after lot's of sucking with iPod 5th gen and Classic too :) ), but there is an important thing to me: can it be used as a data storage device? Like iPod. I mean you plug it to computer, the device appears like a HDD (gets a drive letter) and copy anything you want onto it. Does it work with this player or do I have an SD Card the data to be stored on it?
#1 Can you transfer files from the SD card to the player? Say if I went on vacation and ir an out of memory, i'd love to just move my 2gig of files from my digital camera to the Zen
#2 USB to charge the Zen? THat's sort of a waste of time considernig the USB powering could take hours to charge, any alternatives with a wall charger? I'd hate to turn on my computer just to charge it.
you can't directly transfer the files but if you put the sd into your camera, hook the camera with the computer, copy the files to the computer, then transfer the files to zen then there you go.
you can buy a charger for the zen but you can also just buy a krzr car and wall charger.
I've had this thing for 2,5 years now and I love it!

I'm considering one of the 32 gigers as an ipod toucher alternative. They have gone down a lot in price since the video.

i got onjw , it's has been 3 weeks now, love it, a must if you're looking for a great screen display. I'd give it a 9/10, only problem is that the shuffle systme is not great. And there's also the problem that if i turn it off for more than a lapse of time, i can't continue the song that i was listening. Except for that, everythings works fine, it's really a good mp3
invAZNz 3 years ago
I got one of these a while back now: The only issue I have is that the audio/visual on video is completely out of whack. It might be annoying as it only supports a few formats but it converts everything you put on automatically. If anyone has any suggestion the audio/video sync then let me please know. Aside from that I love it!
xkaylx 3 years ago
The prices for this Zen went down alot, the 2gb is only $80,4gb is $100 and the 8 gb is $150
lagool57 3 years ago
does anybody know if the player supports other video formats besides mp4? like avi or mov?
zniesmaczony 3 years ago
it doesnt really matter, the software it comes with has an automatic converter, so u dont hav 2 wrry bout dat ;)
aleomajor 3 years ago
I heard it's slow and generally crappy... isn't it? suppose I don't have time to convert a video to an appropriate format :) anyway, what is the format the movies are being converted to to fit the zen?

I've heard problems with the software given with the mp3 player, what are they? like that you can't Drag and Drop files with windows explorer after the instalation of the CD. And cant somebody please answer this, i have windows 2k (no comments about that please XD) and i would liek to know if i could always use the mp3, like drag and drop files into it????
THX to everyone that replies.
invAZNz 3 years ago
With XP and Media player 11 is a drag and drop deal. Windows 2k? I can't tell you, The only advice is to upgrade.

I wish Apple would adopt drag and drop, and the mp3 file format, its such a pain to have to sync your Ipod and then convert mp3's in acc, grr, Apple is evil!

you did get ripped off a 4gb zen here in the us costs about $90-$100.00

Man, i finally bought today (4gb) after my RCA bricked itself yesterday. Only paid $89.99+TAX(canada)...Easiest MP3 player i've ever used! First things first... It would be so much better, not that there's anything wrong with it, if they put all the buttons along the bottom of the screen (sorta like the home/vol+-/display/sound/select/start buttons on a PSP. Then they could of made the screen almost an inch wider. Oh and...Plug & Play rules! :)
Dont know what vid formats it plays yet tho.

I'm thinking of buying this player and if anyone could answer this question for me, it'd be much appreciated. Basically, I know you can't access what's on the player's memory and the SD card in the same menu, but can you put videos on the SD card and play them back from there or does it have to copied off the SD card to the internal memory?
SanFranCrisko 3 years ago
You can just play off the video or view the photos from the SD.
kingone 3 years ago
This player is a little too buggy for my liking, I might jump back to creative when the share comes out, but for now I'm going for the sansa fuze.
Mashmepls 3 years ago
it holds 32gb now and you can get an sd card that has 32gb so it could hold 64gb

if you drop it, will it break??

no. it will bounce back and hit you in the face
Zonr45 4 years ago 13
...wow. by saying that, you are trying to be a smart alec and that just undermines ur inteligence even more. my question was serious...
commenter321 4 years ago
well if you use to drop your devices, you are either too clumsy or stupid so... to begin with, your question is pontless. Every single device that falls from a distance to a hard surface, it breaks. Just how smart you need to be to understand that? That's why there are protective silicon cases. Oh and by the way, the device is pretty sturdy if that's what you want to learn.
Zonr45 4 years ago
"Oh and by the way, the device is pretty sturdy if that's what you want to learn."
k thanks thats all i wanted to know
commenter321 4 years ago 2
I bought the silicon cases - a bargain at £9.99 for 3, although you'll need an additional screen protector.
I love this player btw...

Im thinking of buying this but have 2 questions:
1) Is it possible to just shuffle all music files?
2) Can it be used to watch whole movies and if so, is it easier to skip chapters or fast forward through video?
xkaylx 4 years ago
1) Yes, its possible.
2)Yes you can watch the whole movie. And it can fast forward without any lag :)

Can anyone tell me if you can put custom pictures as the desktop pattern? You can with the other zens.

does this mp3 player scratch easily? am i forced to buy a case, just like in ipods?
azamar1000 4 years ago
You'd probably be better off getting on of the rubber cases.
MikehMike01 4 years ago
creative has a really nice leather case for $25 with a stand on it
pokerguy94 4 years ago
i don't think it should scratch easily (unless you wear it in the same pocket with keys or something). it catches all fingerprints quickly, but that's the other thing.
lolmudkipzwhatever 4 years ago
i dun bother to buy a case. becus it isn't that easy to get scratches except for the SCREEN! Just take care of the screen and its enough.

Hi all!
Thank you.
gmagich 4 years ago 3
Yes, it has a removable storage device mode built in.
MikehMike01 4 years ago
if u want to use it as a removable disk you can and it goes directly to the zen drive
pokerguy94 4 years ago
yes you can as i been using it to store my stuff thru the SD card and the memory itself.

I'd hate to turn on my computer just to charge it.
jungleman123 4 years ago
you can't directly transfer the files but if you put the sd into your camera, hook the camera with the computer, copy the files to the computer, then transfer the files to zen then there you go.
you can buy a charger for the zen but you can also just buy a krzr car and wall charger.
