  • Rat 1 stomps on the tenacious. I bought both and the rat 1 is ten times the knife.

  • after carrying both the tenacious and rat 1 for a whole year each, i can say that the rat 1 is a better knife. the blade on the tenacious has dulled much more quickly, and has chipped in several places, even when cutting card board. also, i found that i have accidentally cut myself more with the tenacious than the rat 1. i love spyderco, my fav knife is the sage 2, but comparing rat 1 and tenacious, rat 1 is way better.

  • Fuck you the tenacious is better then fucki'n rat1

  • What was the third knife called

  • Awesome

  • Not to many sheeple here in the mountains of North Carolina where I live. Of course, that might be because I managed to scare them all off. :)

  • Since silicone can be used as a lubricant, the silicone washers might be to provide a little bit of extra lubrication.

  • I did a little research on the scales. Turns out they are not FRN. The Ontario Knife Company's website says that the scales are Nylon 6. Fiber reinforced nylon and nylon 6 are actually two different, yet similar materials.

  • LOL, "sumthin special"...that your take on "nutnfancy"

  • Soon time to congratulate your grandson on his second birthday, he'll be able to enjoy knives in a few years too.

  • congrats on the grandson. also sweet ontario im getting one for edc to use at work because i open packages and boxes all day.

  • love this knife so much from all the reviews, but 80€ is just too much, i dont want to pay so much for a 27$ knife =( im from europe and we have terrible prices for these king of things, not just knives.

  • Just got mine in the mail yesterday, WOW!! very impressed, the knife is an amazing deal, the steel is great, You get more than what you pay for, highly recommend it for any body that needs a hard working folder and is in a budget. Great review brother.

  • Congratulations granddad!

  • Cheers for this review it was really helpful im going to get this soon i think they make a g10 version now

  • I actually WOULD pay $40+ for this knife if it had G10 handles...although I did buy one (satin-plain) like this...Great knife...Great review.

  • Looks like a tank of a knife. Great review man! Blade looks an awful lot like the SOG Flash II .

  • sounds like he has peanut butter in his mouth

  • Hi. Recently bought this knife & it's everything you said. Your vid is spot-on in every respect. This is the best knife I've ever owned & excellent value too. Looking foward to seeing more vids from you. Hope you are well. Regards from England.

  • I have a Victorinox One Hand Trekker. How do you think the OHT compares to the Rat1? Is the steel on the OHT so much more inferior that you would not consider buying it over the Rat1, even thought the OHT has more functions?

  • i was just trying to decide between the tenacious and the rat 1 and saw your review. the only thing that made me choose the rat 1 was the choil. thanks for pointing that out

  • Have u ever done a review on the sog aegis?

  • @nightmarefacility really...the only time iv heard of someone breaking the tip on this knife was when he used it as a screw driver...what exactly were you doing

  • not sure if this is due to the price bracket, but both the ontario rat one, and the spyderco tenacious, can't handle a spine wack test, both knifes fold ie lock fails, not sure if this is due to the tolerances not being exact or what but never the less its a true fact ive tested both knifes and they fold. despite that in all other respects this is a good knife for the price but there is a reason its cheap spine wack it and youll see :) the byrd raven not as smooth or sexy but it locksup better..

  • Man you are right screw tenacious, this knife looks awesome this what im looking for. So with tenacious out of the way. It's now between the shelling out money for the sog ageis or this

  • I know I'm late, but happy bday to Justin. Wish him all the best. He has a really cool grandfather

  • @zujostix

    Thank you!!

  • Tenacious cut me just as shown...

  • Congrats on the grandson.

  • Amazing value for $26. I got one to use as a beater. It feels very solid.

  • "its like a Twitch II on steroids" hahahaha.

  • Before I watched this review I was very intent on buying the tenacious. I heard about the rat 1 is a similar knife and thought I'd check it out. This review was very surprising because it is the only place I've ever heard anyone say something bad about the tenacious, I wonder why that is. I still have not decided on which I will purchase but I will definitely keep the rat 1 in mind because of your review.

  • haha somethinspecial....pretty clever there blun

    and congrats on the grandson

  • Hello Blun, can I ask you about comparing ontario rat 1 and ontario utillitac 2 ?

  • @pajzleek11

Looks good but I wont buy it because it has a re-curve section on the edge. I don't like re-curves because they are a pain to sharpen.

  • That is a great knife! Just don't give it to dumb ass cajun dudes.

  • @TH3aznEmperor

As I say in this vid, the cutting edge is 3.25 inches, the blade is 3.5 inches. That's probably why you see different measurements on the websites (some measure just the edge). I don't think there are two versions of the RAT1.

  • @nightmarefacility

    The mountains of NH.

  • Nice knife --- i Have A Few Of Them,Giving One, To One Of My Sons For Part Of His Birtday Present, End Of June --- Congrats On New Grandson !! Take care --- Great Vid !!

  • What do you think of the SOG Flash II? I'm looking to get a new knife for Father's Day but not really sure what to get; thinking of getting the Flash II because I have a budget I can't go over $75. What do you recommend for EDC?

  • @AWAR2002

I prefer the SOG Twitch2 over the Flash2 (I review the Twitch2 and tell you why).

But, for $75 you could get an Endura4 or Native or Delica4. All excellent EDCs and quality Spydercos.

  • If I want knife to EDC and also to some cutting in forests, is this the best knife for it ?

  • Maybe the best for the price. Certainly not the best.

  • LOVE IT ~!!!! Now what do you think of Serr. version ? or the Painted Version?

  • I don't buy serrated or partially serrated knives (unless it's the only thing offered at the time - like my SOG Vision). I also don't buy coated knives unless it's the only way I can get it and I want the knife otherwise.

I have know use for serrations or painted stainless. Coated carbon steel is a plus, but not necessary.

  • Blunt: congrats on your grandson. Like the bumper sticker says" If I knew grandkids were this much fun I would have had them first" Kuv your vids. My Rat I that I've been tracking thru the mail will be here tomorrow 5/13/10. The hours just won't pass by fast enough. God bless

  • Excellent review. Now I know why tenacious are best seller. It's just more EDC friendly and most people don't see the flaws that you see. Grats on the grandson!

  • Justin's first birthday is coming soon! I hope he grows up big and tough like Grandpa!

  • Hi another great review ~!!! Rough guy ~!!! But your review is very very good. I just bought one for $31 on eBay. I know it was over priced. I got black cheap paint on the blade (serr). I think I will get rid of the half serr, and get the straight edge. Its VERY heavy tho...... 5 oz is Waaaaay heavy. Other than that, I think its a great value.

  • i wonder what company is contracted to manufacture this in taiwan

  • I just got my rat 1 today. I have edc'd the Tenacious for the past few months and absolutely love it. I am going to edc the Rat for a few months to see how it works. It is a little heavier but I don't think that will matter. The Rat does look alot sturdier right off the bat though.

  • I'm glad to find someone who actually tells it like it is, not like somethin' pansy who gives some knives more hype than they really deserve. Thanks BLUNT.

  • Ok, this is what I was looking for I retract my Tenacious comment. Thanks for the vid!

  • When I read your comment on the Ten vid, I was going to direct you to this one. Blunt understands the "concept" of value, he also gives the Ten a positive rating overall based on value (as he says many times in several vids).

  • Nice review man. I have two, NIB, a black plain edge and a satin plain edge and haven't used either yet. Glad to know I didn't waste my money!

  • Best $ spent on knife - thats exactly true for me as well. However after few weeks of hard use in stock, I am a bit disappointed by the edge holding of RAT1. I use it mostly for cardboard, cut several times more cardboard a day than you do in you tests. My RAT goes dull after 3 days. My CRKT M21 also with AUS8 hold for 7 days. If the RAT can hold the same, would be the best knife I own. For comparsion my Endura can take 14-21 days with ease. Rat is on par with Tenacious on edge holding for me.

  • Recieved the Rat1 today. Exactley like you discribed. Tank of a knife. High quality. Perfect fit and finish. Solid liner lock and lock up. Very sharp out of the box. It is heavy at 5 oz but it fits your hand like a glove. It is much safer to close than the Tenacious. Definetly is not sheeple friendly, it's a good size blade 3 5/8" -3 1/4cutting edge. Absolutely everything in your review was spot on. Good Job . Glad I bought it. Best $27 + $5 shipping I ever spent on a knife.

    Thanks Again

  • What you said about the Tenacious, I'm not saying your wrong but that is just in what you use/need the knife for. Congratulations on the Grandson!

  • i also got one and agree with that clip...its much more comfortable without it...

  • I agree on everything except 3:30, the liner lock cut-out. This is perfect for ergonomy, however there is very little space for disengaging the liner lock. To little space. My finger is sore after 3 or 4 closing of the knife. Very tough and small liner pressing area, so it really hurts after a while. Not a knife to play with often opening and closing. On the Ten the space is HUGE, no pain. However, Rat1 is better choice for work knife.

  • hahaha 6:30 chopping fish and sh*t

you have such great reviews you get in detail so well

  • I have 3 of the RAT1s and I love everyone of them. I carry mine all the time. The Weight is not an issue! My normal carry load is RAT 1, Glock 22 or Springfield 1911, 2 extra mags and a Surefire 9P. That is my EDC. Congrats on your New Grandson and Merry Christmas.

  • I have this knife and its very good even though its not to pricey if you know what i mean.

  • adjust your pivot and put some oil like wd-40 into the pivot point

  • Man, the blade on mine does not even begin to deploy as easy as this one.

  • I just purchased the RAT 1 for a Christmas gift to a family member, and honestly, I'm not sure I like it. My only beef is I cannot deploy the blade with the thumbstuds. It's just too stiff. I've tried loosening the blade by backing off the torx screws on the axis, but nothing seems to help.

  • 20% cheaper for 20% more knife, I should get some of these, coz my old man tend to like camping a lot these days. And judging from the part of you seen from the video, can't really believe you having a grand childern, wish he have a joyful life in front of him.

  • also 20% heavier lol

  • great review of great knife, i'd buy one but here it's just too expensive, over 5 times more expensive than in US, that sux, but anyway great review, and cutting test videos, keep them comming :)

oh and congrats on your grandson :)

  • Ya, knives cost lots more in many countries. One of my subs is from Japan and he says shipping charges cost more than the knives.

  • yeah, but it'd cost me less if i'd ordered it from US and pay shipping, but it's also just too expensive, so im waiting to find some decent price, cause it's a great folder knife and i like it very much :)

  • Problary the best reviewer on youtube...keep it up.

  • very good review, I have ordered a RAT 1, I also like the Tenacious. Congrats on the Grandson, I have one who is 3 and a grandaughter who is 6 months and another grandson on the way. There is nothing more special then a grandchild. I have already bought my 3 year old his first knife to be given to him a little later in life of course!

  • Thanks, man.

I can't wait to take the little guy hunting!

  • Nice review. I do like how you are really vocal with your opinion, especially of the Tenacious. I like the Tenacious, but I agree that it is way overhyped.

I'll have to get a Rat 1 soon.

  • Thank you.

I like the Tenacious, just not nearly as much as most people. Someone has to counter all the Ten-Butt-Kissing.

  • I bought mine the other day should be here soon!! I dont spend more then 40 bucks on a edc knife. just because i really trash mine at my work... im also poor. GREAT review keep them coming!!

  • Blunt you should do a review on knife storage how you store your knives.

  • That would be very, VERY, embarrassing!

Remember, knives are not Nic-Nacs to me. They are tools. I treat them like tools. They are not protected in any way. The ones I don't use daily are kept piled in a duffle bag (plus I have a few in my gun bags).

I'm not a collector, I'm a user (and abuser). I do, however, maintain them well.

  • well said!

  • 1 i was drunk

2 English is my second language

  • Ha, I just suggested in another comment that you watch this review! I guess I should have checked first.

    Thanks for the compliment!

  • do you wanna hear a joke? i found some german online-shops and they're all selling the RAT1 for about €116 - €125 ($163 - $176)!!!!

  • Holly shit!! I should send you a box full of them and we could both get rich selling them for half that price. I hear things like that from guys in Australia, too.

  • haha hell yeah, would be a great deal for both of us! but it's really a shame, even knifes manufactured here in germany (e.g. böker) are cheaper in the usa then they're here.

  • congrats grandpa!!!

  • Great review! I never even would have considered the ontario rat. You can bet I'll be getting at least one at that price.

  • Thanks! Definitely worth $27! If only it was a tad lighter it would make a great EDC. Some people are willing to carry the weight, so for them it's a great EDC.

  • im 2 drunk 2 see this vidd cuss my causing yust maried so this wass a realy good tquilla patry my dad cach me rtaly drunk soo k donth know abwthb my raething viva mexico

  • nice review - congratulations on the grandchild

  • congrats and lovin the reviews

  • Another great review. Comparing knife features is really helpful. Thanks.

    And congratulations!!

  • Thanks for the great review! I love this knife a bit heavy but i like a knife with a bit of weight to it

  • I love this knife! A bit heavy but I like a great build knife

  • Congrats, Man! All the best wishes to you and the Family!

Just watched both vids.Great table top, but a truly excellent demo. That was some serious technique you showed there.I did find myself a bit worried though when you did the split technique, that took some serious control and skill. I'd probably end up lopping off a finger if i tried it..But I can see when applied properly, it's a solid technique. Awesome man... Nuthin' fancy at all about that technique - just skill ;)

    And Congrats again!

  • Yup, it's not the safest thing to do with your knife, but if you have to get to the dry stuff and all you have is your folder - it works and it's not really that dangerous if you are careful.

And I get the pun ;)

    LOL

  • Congratulations to the grandson, and great review!

  • Thanks for the review but more importantly congrats on your new grandson! I'm very glad that the birth went well and that baby and mommy are recovering nicely.

I happen to like a heavy knife so I think I'd love this one. I'd probably apply some of that grip-tape (the stuff you add to stairs and skateboards) on the sides of the handle like what I did with my Kershaw Cyclone and would fix the jimping but other then that I think I'd love this one. Now I'm going to have to get one.

  • Grats on the grandson!

  • Hey blunt what should I get kershaw skyline, sog twitch 2, or the RAT 1?

  • Kershaw Skyline is VERY lightweight and VERY sharp but is probably not a super heavy duty blade. I took it into the mountains and cleaned a lot of fish with it and it worked great. I also use it in the office all the time because its so thin and lightweight. If you are looking to chop wood get something heavier...

  • The Twitch2 is a completely different knife than the RAT 1. So it depends on what you intend to do with it. Both are very nice, well made knives. I don't have experience with the Skyline, but the commenter below (MrChinelas22) offers advice there.

  • Congratulations on having on being a Grand parent. At what age will you get Justin his first knife?

Great review, I love this knife. It's just a tough knife. Love, hearing your toughts.

  • My Tenacious chopped my thumb like a guillotine within days of buying it. You can see the cut in a couple of my early videos.

Gotta get me one of those Rat 1's

    Congratulations on the grandson Steve!!

  • Congrats, Granddad!

I love my Rat 1. It's hard to beat at that price.

  • great review once again, hope you got a big fat cigar!

  • Congratulations.on your grandson!

  • Thanks, Chris!

  • Congratulations. You're too young to be a grandfather.

  • Thanks! If only that were true.

  • good review
