Sounds like lighthouse keeping is still a worst job. The lousiness of this job was brilliantly parodied in the Goodies episode "Lighthousekeeping Loonies" where the job really starts to drive the Goodies loony.
its nicd to see how life was like so many people risk their lives just to help others as lifeguards in britain today so its not only the worst job in maritime past but also present.
yes they do, in the summer they have alot of problems with people going out on inflateables and getting pulled out in a current, and there alot of fishing ports and sometimes the boats do capsize. dont you know about our swimming in the sea on boxing day?
I have lived in england but have not heard about swimming in the sea on boxing day. I have been to brighton beach and it was freezing! Pretty safe as a lifeguard these days though, but i could imaging they would be kept busy though. I have been caught in a few rips lucky i had a surfboard.
This is your oar, Tony.
