  • Turn down the bass..?

    NEVURRRR

  • This is going to sound really dumb... BUT, I have my guitar going through a line 6 PODxt into Reason, no problems there. How or where can I hook a mic up in order to have them both at the same time like you have??

  • @kayden7 You'd need a pro audio soundcard with a mic input and a line input (for the PODxt). I realize you're using PODxt as your soundcard now, which is great for recording guitar, but PODxt does not have a mic input.

What version of Reason are you using? Do you also own Record?

  • Nice Tutorial. Thank you!

  • Hey, are there any all-electric vocoders? Like for the computer?

  • if i add the formant filter of thor can i have the sound of a talkbox with that vocoder feature, hum i should test that !!! ^^

  • @Meteotrance Totally! I have a newer video about that, entitled "Propellerhead Record + Reason: How to Make Talk Box and Auto-Wah Effects," and another that uses Thor's formant filter called "Propellerhead Record + Reason: Playing Guitar Through the Reason Synths (Part 2)."

  • That's awesome man !! :)

  • Yes, you can ReWire Record with Cubase 5, with Cubase 5 as the Host application, and Record as the client application.

  • EXELLENT

  • AMAZING!

  • 0:29 HAHAHAHAHA fantastic!!! xDD

  • "....that's whhattt i'm tawken aboutttt " LOL. Love it.

  • Ha ha, this is fun to mess around with. I just got the software over the weekend and tried this tutorial; lots of fun.

Now if I could just stop messing around and actually record something.

  • Is this how Ozzy Osbourne did the voice that says: "I AM IRONMAN!" in the intro to that song? It would be cool to recreate that!

  • I can't get this to work

for some reason, (no pun intended lol)

the wires don't end up being plugged in correctly

can we see exactly what gets connected to what in the back of the racks ?

    would be extra helpful

  • I suggest visiting the Line 6 website, go to Community > Line 6 Blog, and open the blog for this video. Then click the Download Files link near the bottom of the page. You can then download the setup used in the video, which will work, and will also allow you to flip the rack around and fully investigate the cabling.

  • did you get it to work in the end? Im running record in demo so i cant open the patch files from line6 :'(

If you worked it out could you please tell me how you did it?

  • Thanks for sharing this, extremely helpful. I was wondering if anyone has achieved the old wah talkbox style of effect using this technique?

  • sorry for super-late response-- but if you are still out there... I have not tried for that sound, but if I were trying for the "Rocky Mountain Way" solo sound, I would suggest going for the max number of vocoder bands (FFT 512), and a little less gain / distortion in the guitar sound than what I used in the tutorial. In general, more vocoder bands will result in a less synthy, more natural sound.

  • Thank you so much for this.

  • Is it possible to use the POD X3L?

  • Yes, POD X3 Live will work as a recording interface with Record, and all the extra amp, cabinet, and preamp models that come with POD X3 Live will show up in Record's Line 6 Guitar Amp and Bass Amp devices.

  • that would be pretty awesome...

is it possible to use live too?

  • Yes, you can use it live. Remember to turn down the X3's Tone Volume all the way so that the X3's built-in tone doesn't play-- and set Tone 2 to mic. In Record, the guitar channel's input should be set to POD X3 Live Input 7, and the Voice channel should be set to POD X3 Live Input 8.

  • can I do the same thing but not by playing guitar and speaking at the same time? (playing/speaking and speaking/playing next)

  • Yes, but you won't hear any output from the vocoder until both signals are present. If you're recording guitar first, you can temporarily set the vocoder's on/off/bypass switch (upper left corner) to "bypass" For recording vocals 1st, you could either record before connecting the vocal track's direct out to the vocoder, or record it on a different track and then move the audio clip. Otherwise it'd still record, but you wouldn't hear it while you were recording it.

  • thanks, I will try this asap!

  • can i use guitar instead sintizer? pm me...

  • I've never been impressed with the Reason vocoder...until I heard this! Could you send me the Thor "boogie on down" patch?

    Thanks.

  • Thanks, wrekabuddy! We'll be posting the "boogie on down" Thor patch, as well as both vocoder setups from the video, on the Line 6 website ASAP. I'm hoping we'll have that stuff up within a week.

  • We have posted the Thor "boogie on down" patch, as well as the vocoder setups that were used for the video. You can find a download link on the Line 6 blog. (Address for the blog is in the info description for this video on this page.)

  • DIGITAL TALK BOX!!!!! woooooooo!!!!!!!!!!!

  • thet wassssssssss coooooooooooooooooooooooooooooool:D:D:D:D

  • BIG ROBOT, haha! I wonder what it would sound like with a violin or cello as the carrier signal. Could make for some sweet backup vocals.
