If you want to chill and take it easy you go out to the country (e.g Westmoreland, St. Elizabeth etc. Kingston is cool but you need to know where you are going and what you are doing.  But if you stay in New Kingston you wont have any problems. My favorite place to relax is Blue Fields near Negril.. P.S There is not really any violence against tourists in JA, that is some media BS.
