i have a m1 garand that excepts bar clips (no it's not a m14) my grandpa had modified it because he didn't want to load the clip because it was to hard. so he modified it.... and also the pinging noise would give away that he ran out of ammo. so the moose would retaliate. :D

@bladesnspades2 Different, because the M-14 have magazines. But the bolt is very powerful in the M-14 too, the spring is the same than an M1 Garand.

Just block the bolt with the heel of your loading hand when inserting the clip, so it doesnt go anywhere till you're ready, this way you'll never get Garand thumb.

you' re right, because this is a beautiful gun. It can' t cut your thumb, but you can have some bruises, or just cut a little bit your skin, I never had it, but I know some people the had it.

@DudishDanny i have never recieved "m1 thumb" before and i dont even load mine like that, the bolt stops when it runs into the round its going to chamber and when u take your thumb off the top round then it slides foreward, most of the time with assistance by pushing but sometimes it will just go on its own

@DudishDanny I used to load this way and got M1 thumb from it. Normally nothing happens and it just hurts but my nail split in half sideways and the end fell off. The correct way to load is just to push the clip in and hold down then move your hand out fast, its quick, easy, and only takes one hand. Check out Iraqveteran8888 video its really helpful.

no. this is my real M1 garand. You say that because the marushin m1 garand is loaded with a bb clip, but we can' t see the cartridge. Here, I just putted an empty M1 Clip.

It's not so much loading the Garand that "M1 thumb" comes from. When loading a clip the speed of the bolt closing is slower because of the high tension of the follower spring against a full clip. Also, you'll have the rounds in the way to prevent your thumb from going too deep into the breech. About all that will happen is the bolt will push your thumb out of the way.

The cause of M1 thumb is having the bolt retracted but not securely captured by the bolt catch. Instead the bolt can be caught by the back of the follower and not securely held. Bump the follower with your thumb and it will most likely release the bolt and you thumb or finger gets slammed between the bolt face and chamber

I know this from experience.
