The Food Network Star needs to know how to cook, handle being on camera, have a culinary point of view and an engaging personality. Ultimately, though, there needs to be an audience for his/her "package." All three finalists had all of these qualities, but Aarti edged ahead with her easy charm, calm and clear articulation and a more defined approach that nicely fills a market niche. And I think viewers will learn more from what she has to offer.
You know, after having seen this video and follow this story, it's fantastic. Aarti Sequeira is very cute. She seems very passionate about her work (for someone who hasn't seen "The Next Food Network Star"). Congratulations to Aarti on this.
@NWsubmom: Aarti has been a food blogger and hosts a cooking show on YouTube for a few years now. She brought in her skill set in the competition just like the rest of the contestants. Food Network believed her OVERALL skills were the best. (Not perfect.) She was picked as the winner. It was all about making a cooking show. Nothing more, nothing less. Many people are going to watch her show and she is going to have a great career with or without your support. :)
Aarti won because she was the best candidate for the job. It has nothing to do with her being a minority and everything to do with her marketability, her skills and ability and she is absolutely lovely!
@NWsubmom No need to be so ignorant, rude and only focusing on race!!! Aarti won because she had the most distinct and consistent point of view. She really knew what she wanted and had the whole package for the job.
@NWsubmom i cook for a living and i am very good at what i do and believe me aarti was way superior to the other contestants by her knowledge of spices and mixes and a fertile imagination. she was by far the best.
great Aarti. Love her show

@NWsubmom: Would it have helped if Aarti had worked for Fox News, ABC, CBS or MSNBC in your mind? (I'm thinking NOT.....on a few levels.)
:(

This comment has received too many negative votes show
One of the two guys should have won.
The only reason this lady won is because she is of Indian/Pakistani decent.
It is PC to pick a minority.

@maggievp Her food and presentation was way overblown!
Turns out she used to work for CNN, so that even proves she got there in the first place through connections.

@NWsubmom Ok well if thats what you want to focus on than don't watch her!!!!!!

@isayfew I never said she was a BAD cook.
If you listen to this interview, she is admitting that she got into the cooking thing because her career was going NOWHERE.
The other contestants didn't work for CNN, but actually had cooked for years!
She is a relative newby and is cashing in on the whole FEMALE ETHNIC thing.
That has NOTHING to do with any REAL talent.
