Holy crap! As if the the track on Physical wasn't stomp down magnificent enough...Jaysus Hoobastank Christ that plinkity plink organ juxtaposed w/ Pagey's ragin' an Plants howlin' vox. Freakin' outta the goddamn park man! Too fucking much, too fucking much...
@Goon1399 I FRIGGIN LOVE THIS VERSION!!! CAN'T STOP LISTENING TO IT...THOSE PLUCKING GUITAR STRINGS ARE SO HAUNTING..GREAT POST GOON (lol Goon love that word btw).
The album version comes across much more omniscient as the narrator is telling you “in the light you will find the road”. This version is more personal from a narrative perspective as it’s a man speaking of love and loss, where he finds the strength to endure. With the album version “in the light” seems more a metaphor for Faith or God etc… it does a better job of delivering a song of hope. Would this song have been as timeless coming from an everyman’s perspective? Who cares!
I cant say I enjoy the odder doors/beatlesy intro, but I definately dig the rawness of the rest of it! Never new this existed, awesome post! Sincere thanks.
Bonham was such an amazing drummer! As someone said earlier, I wish LZ would put out a compilation of alternate takes and demos like the Beatles did with their "Anthology" discs.
For some reason, when the guitar kicks in I'm reminded of Queen...
But yeah, this version is absolutely superb, though I wouldn't hazard to estimate a preference over the eventual release. I need to scour the internet for more Zep bootlegs...
If you listen closely, the drums and guitar are what ended up on the final version on the album. It seems very likely this was the basic tracks being laid down. They initially had a somewhat heavier feel and idea for the tune here, ie, reflected in the keyboard and vocal/lyric ideas, but scrapped them after these initial tracks were put down. My observation. I play drums and study Bonzo quite a bit so I recognize the drum part. Very interesting to hear what they were tinkering with initially.
When I hear this rare gem I feel like I am back in the weird drug-soaked 70s having blurry, dreamlike visions of strange rituals at the Boleskine House while teenage kids listen for hidden messages on a black, vinyl disk spun counter-clockwise across the needle.
Sounds like something that would have been on Zoso. Just goes to show the ability Zep had, being able to play a song different ways. Wouldn't it be great If Zep could somehow scrounge together all these rarities that exist. I know there's Coda, but that just scratches the surface.
You just saved me from uploading this song.. man I love the original, but ever since i heard that opening, i can't get it out of my head. nice bootleg, i have many, but will not UpLoad duplicates. thanks again for posting!
I don`t believe Led Zeppelin is satanism, those people who believe they just try to break down the band, but Led Zeppelin decline. Led Zeppelin is excellent song writer and musician put it in your head.
never heard this version before, this eerie version would go PERFECTLY with one of those Clint Eastwood cowboy movies like For a Fistful of Dollars in the background :)
It`s to bad they[Page/Jones] can recreate these great ideas, even today on their instruments, yet the lifespan for a giant`s voice like Plants is what? 15 years maybe.
They need a new 18 year old giant on vocals for their money tour, not Steven Tyler[he was good too]so sad.
If this is fake, I want to see this band. It's the real thing for sure. As soon as the chorus kicks in around 2:30 you know it's them. I can see why it's just a demo though, that organ reminds me of a cheesy 70's horror movie.
The band needs to tour and dedicate this song to the world Though the winds of change may blow around you, but that will always be so When love is pain it can devour you, if you are never alone I would share your load. I would share your load Baby, let me, oh, let me In the light Everybody needs the light. In the light, in the light, in the light Light, light, light, in the light Light, light, light, in the light, ooh, yeah Light, light, light, in the light
wow i like it way way way way more than the original!! JPJ's tune in the bggning is incredible ... its creepy almosy sounds santanic.. now i understand how they sacred people in there time.. its so powerful
@slipdrum80 I think Jimmy's involvement with Alister and satanism must have been an influence on JPJ's intro. Sounds like the "demonic" chord/key to me.
This one wouldn't have gone great in the grafitti album. Too creepy, but a great find and a good song. The song sounded too zeppelin 1 with that organ
Absolutely THE best LZ song --- not too popular but fantastic. Sounds pretty authentic to me --- like the Lucy in the Skyesque melody... awesome find!!
the organ does add an a very eerie effect, but i think its awesome, i cant remember which boot this is off... its one with heaps of really raw physical grafitti era recordings..
KILLER VERSION!
