They were using a previous version of Sonic 1 before the release of it. At 0:12, theres supposed to be a checkpoint in the middle of the tunnels, followed by a ramp that goes up to a bunch of rings. Not two rows of rings.

Well, $150 was a lot more back then, but it's not nearly equivalent to the $300 that a PS3 costs today or whatever an XBox 360 costs today. That's one of the reasons I can't afford today's consoles. I can't believe it took that long for the Wii with the Mario Kart game to go down to $150. Another thing about back then is that other stuff (like gas, food, etc) was a lot cheaper too, so it left people with more money to buy a Genesis, NES, SNES, etc.

Well thankfully that wasn't the case for most games. I think I remember seeing some of the Phantasy Star games for a lot of money. But then again, I never got games when they were new anyway. I think the same is true for SNES games like Star Fox, right? I remember Lord of the Rings for SNES cost $70.00 at a K-Mart I went to. But most games weren't that expensive. I remember most being $40-$50 when new, some $60. Their prices dropped a lot quicker than today's games though.

The promo was that you get Sonic the Hedgehog, which was valued at that $54.95 price tag shown, for free when you buy a Genesis system which at the time recently had its price reduced to $149.99. Buying Sonic by itself would cost $54.95. This was before Sega sold the Genesis console that already came with Sonic. I have a 1992 commercial with a promo that if you buy the Genesis with Sonic 1, you get Sonic 2 for free, which was a pretty good deal.

I know. But at least back then the price of games came down. It wasn't that long before you could find Sonic games for $19.99. Same thing with games Nintendo made. I just went to Toys R Us today & New Super Mario Bros for the Nintendo DS costs $29.99 still---4 years after the game came out!!!! That's ridiculous. I got Link's Awakening for Game Boy from Toy's R Us for $12.88 (will never forget that price) 3 years after it came out & it's a MUCH better game.

Yeah but has any video game company really done that with any character? They made that Doom movie with the Rock, the Super Mario Bros movie in the 90's (which was laughable since none of them looked like their video game counterparts), and they probably made others that I don't remember (Tron--if the movie came out after the game). But they were all live action as far as I can recall. The only live action movie I care about seeing is one based on the Legend of Zelda games.

Well, I know but because it's not official (as in licensed by Capcom) I don't think it really counts. Then again there are live action films like the Tomb Raider & Resident Evil movies. And I heard they will be making a game of Uncharted. But none of the classic retro games I play seem to have any decent movies made of them (Sonic, Golden Axe, Shinobi, Castlevania, Ninja Gaiden, Wonder Boy, Adventure Island, etc).

They should make CGI or cartoon animated Sonic movies and perhaps other characters also. I'd love to movies in the style of Sin City based on Shinobi or Ninja Gaiden. A CGI Wonder Boy movie would also be cool. Another cool live action type movie they could do is on the Golden Axe series & characters with Death Adder & all those enemies & giant animals the characters in the games can ride. A Mega Man movie would also be cool, but would probably be too similar to Astro Boy.

Consoles were much cheaper back then. Even though money was worth more, you just can't compare the $150 of a Genesis to the cost of the Wii, or worse yet the PS3 today. The Genesis is one of my favorites. So many great games. I liked the original model seen in this commercial, though I never owned one. I had the 2nd model, but it broke & later got the CDX, a very compact Genesis-Sega CD combo unit.

My brother got a Super Nintendo w/ the Zelda game (my favorite Zelda game) for $100.
